I can't think of a reason why I would want a strobe on a weapons light. Anyone have a good reason to have a strobe option?

They have become the new gadget to have, unfortunately, 99.9% of the agents I have encountered trying to use them on entries can't employ them properly, activating strobe when they need white light for example. I find them to be incredibly irritating and useless. All they do is annoy everyone else trying to clear the house.

When used PROPERLY, a 170-200 lumen light, particularly on strobe, is almost impossible to look into. It can give you that extra fraction of a second and makes it very difficult for the bad guy to look where he's shooting. Has been shown in our force-on-force scenarios. Outside of that, they're a gimmick.

Just my experience.

You may already know this, but the streamlight TLR-1s can have the strobe function disabled.

Also the TLR1 has both a momentary and latching switch. Use the momentary as a strobe...I imagine the strobe affect would be troublesome for a bad guy but I also think it could quickly become an issue for me on the good end of it. Using the momentary I could strobe without it being latched in that condition. also...I think the TLR1 is a great light.

Got a TLR-1 HP with pressure switch and NO strobe option inbound.

Strobe is damn near worthless except in a VERY limited set of circumstances. If you can get a light that either doesn't have it, or you can lock it out, that's more beneficial.

I'll put it to you this way, next time you go to a concert pay special attention to if and when the lighting designer chooses to hit the strobes (the vast majority of rock shows have them). Most industry standard strobes are 3000W, see how disoriented you really get. It's certainly not an apples to apples comparison, but if you can still maintain while dealing with multiple 3k strobes, what do you think a little 200 lumen blinky light is going to do? Simply put, just distract you from your focus (target) as much as anything. There's no nerve frying, they're not sudden freeze of a bad guys OODA loop, unless he's epileptic and goes into a seizure you're not gaining anything over the target and giving up situational awareness. You're better off with a light that will output as much as possible so it actually forces the target to react to protect his vision (think aversion to light with fully dilated pupils) while allowing you to maintain proper sight/target picture.

The strobes also really mess with your depth perseption. Takes alot of practice and a good light to use affectively.
