What is your current generation preference for a G17 and G19 and why?

I'm still a Gen 3 guy- word is the Gen 4 guns are doing better but lets let a period of time pass with consistent good feedback before we make the jump- at least that is my theory

If we expanded the question to cover .40 S&W or .45 ACP Glocks: would you prefer the Gen4 over the Gen3, or recommend avoiding Glocks in non-9mm calibers all together?

Not really a fan of the Glock in calibers other than 9mm ( exception of course is the excellent G20 in 10mm which is the best backpacking pistol made)

In 40 or 45 I would go elsewhere

A hint; think HK

Little bit of a hijack here, but regarding your recommendation of HK guns, how do you feel about the USP .45f vs. .45c as handguns in general?

I have only shot the .45f once but I am considering getting it as it's one of the few approved handguns for me. The other being a SW M&P 9.

All the HK 45 ACP pistols are good guns- I prefer the HK45 family of course but the USP's are still great guns

Actually even including the Mk23 ( which is a huge handgun) HK does not make a bad 45 ACP handgun

There is a reason why they win about every large pistol trial that are entered in- you may not be real wild about the sights or the trigger but they are super reliable and all HK's , in every caliber, Are more than accurate enough for the task at hand

Hope this helps

What do you think about the reliability issues affecting late 3rd Gen and 4th Gen Glock 19/17 pistols?

I think Glock is still working to get all the bugs out of the latest Gen 3 & 4 guns - I still see some issues in my classes from time to time which tells me they aren't quite there yet
