I like that look...no bling just business. Is it stock?
It's had work done to it. But, I wanted a fighting gun. I have plenty of 1911's, but this was my first railed 1911, a requirement moving forward (a light rail that is).
A little story behind this gun. Im my research for a railed 1911, I talked to plenty of people, checked many manufacturers. It cam down to a few:
*SA MC Operator
*SA Professional
*Series I Kimber Warrior
*Wilson CQB Operator with a light rail
*Doublestar Railed 1911
I spoke to my Smith about it, a man of vast experience, who has crafted many 1911's in his day. All of the 1911's on that list are good he stated but your getting a lot of gun from DS for the money. Plus, a friend (another JMB fan) said he laid his paws on the blaster at SHOT and was impressed.
-The slide is Caspian and good to go.
-The frame is forged and made in house.
So, I dropped $1,000 on the gun (out the door) and handed it to my Smith. He stated that he did NOT like the way the barrel lugs and slide grooves were fitted on the gun and he called DS. They were 100% on board with their warranty (lifetime, nice). I sent the entire pistol in and they sent it back with a brand new barrel and slide. My smith then made sure all was properly fitted and moved forward with his personal modifications as follows:
*Medium solid trigger + fit
*Tactical Hook rear sight
*Tritium front sight
*New plunger tube
*Flare ejection port
*Weld up safety/ special
*Set timing and weld up + Bushing
*Reliability job
*Refinish entire gun
*New ejector + Machine slide + install
*New extractor + fit

Holy smokes d90king....those things are beautiful. However, for the time being...I will have to be appeased by the ownership of my Wilson Combat Professional, posted prior to your pics...but, looking at these pics confirm that I'll need to either need to quit the forums or buy another 1911...but, for now I gotta hold off because I'm about to drop some pennies on a SCAR 17S FDE...and I just bought 6 mags for it. I love this stuff.
Beautiful 1911's !!!

Has the XTAC become your carry piece? Round count so far?
http://stickman.rainierarms.com/galleries/Handguns/STKL7452-B-1200-Stick.jpg
I found this one at my LGS. Previous owner had added the FO front sight and the 10-8 trigger (trigger job???).
I added the Ahrend's cocobolo grips and Brown extended mag release last night.

935 rounds, 2 days, zero cleaning.
Awesome!! Looks like a great 1911. Love the base gun. I look forward to more details and pics.
Thanks fellas! Yeah, I was definitely enjoying running the gun, it was hard to give it back to the smith to get the rest of the build finished.
It should be finished in a few weeks and I'll have more pics (high-quality ones at that) then.
Jason,
that pistol is badass
Before I saw your post that is the first thing I said to myself! LOL!
Now the pistol is done except for some new grips I bought that still need put on, but that will have to wait till i get home. This has been done for a while but figured I share it.
I payed 500 dollars for a Colt Government Model MK IV / Series 80 in good shape, low round count. It is in good shape except for a few tool marks and I had to still get the thumb safety fitted. The owner got it back from his gunsmith with the new hammer and trigger fitted. It is my current CC and open carry gun that I use on a daily basis when I am home. I am considering getting it re-chromed to fix all the tool damage the past owner did.
Prior to the gunsmiths work

The unfitted trigger.
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x137/zack9912000/Colt%201911/Photo0011.jpg
Well I got it back from the armor who had to replace the "new" thumb safety that the seller gave me. The seller said that it was just needing to be fitted, well the armor called me and it was not good news overall. The thumb safety that i was given was bent out of shape and looked like a poor attempt at fitting the piece was done.
He refused to use it for obvious safety reasons and said I had to buy a replacement. I had to buy another Wilson Combat thumb safety and instead of it costing me around 30 bucks, it ran over 70. Other than that at least it can be used as my carry gun now. Sorry for the crappy photos, cant take new ones for obvious reasons. It has been good to me and it is hard to be for 570 bucks total investment.

Two that I have had for a long time now, I know these particular brands don’t get much love here but I would hope these would be an exception.
First my Kimber which I still have the box for and it is dated 05-1996.It has a 4 digit serial number. It was bough at The Gun Gallery in 96. I recently watched some of the Magpul videos and it was interesting seeing the Gun Gallery listed in the credits.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm48/azhtrgr/k4.jpg
Second the Para which has been through the Novak shop. The gun had a huge list of work done and IIRC it was coated in “Black T” Unfortunately the list of mods has been misplaced over many moves.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm48/azhtrgr/p2-1.jpg
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm48/azhtrgr/p3.jpg
I would say it’s very safe to say the Kimber has around 10k rounds through it. It has had some springs and some internals replaced. I doubt the Para has 500 rounds through it. I would love to get the Kimber redone by someone reputable in the future. And no I am not a photographer.

[QUOTE=Clifford_92FS;1179271]This is my grandfather's service pistol from the war. He was a Lt. in the 13th Bombardment Squadron in the USAF. He mainly flew A-20s, but also flew B-17s for a little while. I vaguely remember the stories he would tell my brother and I as children. His dementia got pretty bad by the time we were teenagers, but when I started shooting, I was shown this pistol below. Now, I'm working on cleaning it up so that we can put it into a presentation case. He passed away in '05.
As you see, he made it his own by replacing the left side grip panel with a picture of my grandmother. It is a homemade fiberglass panel with a photo of her in the middle. I think this is one of the cooler things I have seen since gaining interest in shooting. I hope you guys enjoy.

That is by far the single coolest thing I've ever seen customized on a 1911, and probably any handgun ever. In all my snooping of 1911 picture threads, I've never seen something more unique. Very nice piece of family and history tied together right there.

That's a really fine piece of history you have there. Never let it leave the family.
On the other hand, that gun is very old & probably dangerous. Ship it to me & I'll dispose of it properly. No charge.

Here is my Champion Operator. I sent it into Springfield Customs and had them do a trigger job (4.5#), 10-8 slide stop, Ed Brown extractor and thumb safety, and Heinie ledge style sights. I finished it off with VZ Operator grips and some grip tape. This is my EDC so nothing too extravagant, but its a great shooter.

Thanks. This 1911 has impressed me; however, that is an understatement.
I shot this gun in a 3 day Ken Hackathorn class this past weekend. I am even more impressed now. No malfunctions or stoppages of any kind, and it is amazingly accurate.

I shot a drill that required the shooter to start from the holster with one round in the chamber and 5 in the mag. The shooter has 2 spare mags of six each for a total of 18 rounds. The goal is to keep all hits inside of the A zone of an IDPA target with a par time of 20 seconds.
I shot this drill clean in 11.2 seconds with this XTAC.

Here are my two favorite guns, and only 1911's (so far). A Nighthawk Enforcer from last year, when the frame was still Caspian with an integrated well. The other is an Ed Brown Special Forces that I recently acquired. They are both tack drivers. The NHC has ~800 rounds through, and EB had 353. All flawless except for one Win T+P round through the NHC, and I think that was mag related. I'm not a big fan of the +P anyways..

Thanks! I really wanted the flat 10-8 trigger also, but figured I'd try this first. I got lucky, and didn't have to wait long. George from migunslingers had this one on order, and I made a small change. I only waited about 2 months, as opposed to the approximate 9 month wait I've been hearing about.
I too feel this is a lot of gun for the money. I LOVE my Nighthawk. That being said, I feel that I got a lot more gun for my money with the Brown. I'd own another Nighthawk, but will not purchase new from them again. On the other hand, I want an Executive Elite and Executive Carry or Special Forces Carry from Brown. Hell-ova gun.

I've owned 3 Browns and 5 NHCs, for the price I'd always go EB over NHC. The downside of Brown, if you consider it a downside, is once you order a Govt and Commander, you have pretty much exhausted the lineup. The only diff between the models is frame checkering really. That being said my fav EB was a custom Kobra Carry I had built with scale straps and SF cocking serrations and hi-power cuts.

It is the Garrett Industries Silent Thunder OWB. Amazing quality. The leather lining is top notch. They are great people to work with.
The do make IWB models. I am currently interested in getting one of their Fusion IWB models, but the site says they're currently unavailable.
Again, great stuff. I can't speak highly enough of them. If you go to the 1911forum, go to the holster section, and search "garrett industries". You'll find plenty of info.

freightdog1911 & RichDC2,
Thanks for the interest.
It is very functional, reliable & accurate.
Thumb safety is Ed Brown Tactical & Trigger says : "Death to Al Qaeda" in Arabic. I switched to a Warren Tactical rear sight which my eyes prefer to Novak, Y/B etc.
It is a Commanding Officer (Combat Commander frame & Officer's slide, 500 made) the finish is IonBond DLC "Diamond Like Coating"
Info here:

One of my favorite carry guns. It is a death ray regarding accuracy. Easy to conceal & because of Commander frame it is full size & will take 10 rnd mags as well.

For me the Silent Thunder is more of a range holster than a carry holster. It sticks out to far from my body for my liking. The RCS sits much tighter to my body which is my preference for an everyday option....

I'm not sure if you knew or not about my "Escape from Commiefornia" or not. Anyways in a Gun Free state finally. I know, what took me. Long story. Had to extricate myself from clients' etc.
Had Red Creek Tactical apply Cerakote over TAiN & Micro Slick the KART NM barrel. Should be one of the more durable coatings' I know of.

I also felt it wasn't worth your time.
I'm doing some "interesting things" w/ him on T&E w/ .458 SOCOM "Tungsten core" stuff w/ "different people". Can't say more now, BUT it is interesting.
We spent 4 hours assembling it & he had nothing but praise for the Grand Poobah of 1911's work. He drooled all over himself & the floor inspecting the other Colt you did for me recently.
Have some work for you but things seem a bit HINKEY at the moment.

Thanks for the positive feedback on the pics, guys.
d90king,
That is the Wilson rear sight that comes standard on the XTAC. Similar in some aspects to the Warren, but a bit different. I do have a Warren sight equipped 1911, and I prefer the Wilson by a narrow margin.
As can happen, I had two items schedule themselves for replacement during this range session.
The first was the fiber optic in the front sight.
when I noticed the problem:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v441/DavidThomas/194rev-1-1.jpg
now you see it:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v441/DavidThomas/223rev.jpg
Now you dont:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v441/DavidThomas/224rev-1.jpg
aftermath:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v441/DavidThomas/270rev.jpg
I am surprised by how long the fiber optic lasted and I do really like the green fiber optic. The sight was still functional without the fiber optic, but was a little weird.
The next item was the shok-buff.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v441/DavidThomas/298rev.jpg
This is the only 1911 that I run a shok-buff in, and I will continue to do so. This is number 4 in this gun. I have been running them until they come apart. I do frequently check them, and checked this one at the end of the range session. Despite the shok-buff being completely mangled, the XTAC continued to perform flawlessly.

As far as the rear sight goes I couldn't give you an honest answer. It dates back to the 80's, and was a prototype meant to extend the sight radius by the rear sitting as far back as possible. Obviously sights like this are more common now.
The gun itself:
Colt Lightweight Commander
Nowlin 45 barrel
Nighthawk trigger
Nighthawk hammer
Nighthawk disconnector
Nighthawk sear
Nighthawk pins
All other parts on the gun itself are unknown, it does not have any factory frame parts left in it. This is an old gun and has been used for experimenting with parts/fitment.
I only finished re-fitting the safety today for the Nighthawk parts.

Looks retro and functional.
It looks like the old Wilson Deluxe sight. I am not familiar with MGW.

Thanks, Hop. I love the feel of the Xtac. Very robust frontstrap treatment.
The AAC Nighthawk looks great, as well! I would love to get your thoughts on it so far.
David,
What's the railed version you have there?
Just a 1911 that was test fired by Wilson on June 13, 2012...

Yea, X Tac fronstrap looks robust. I like that. I don't have girly hands and typically need a robust type grip. The X Tac looks like that. I'll have to check one out. I like 20 Lpi & even 15 Lpi considerably over 25 or 30 Lpi. Personal preference. Tried the others don't like the feel. Probably cumulative years of MA's, weights & working out w/ scar tissue/calluses.
Nice !
* Could we get some close up pics of her flipped over :D

...Mine was built by Joey Lehr who I understand is Tim Lehr's Nephew. He is one of NH's newer big talents from my sources I trust. The bench rest Test Target was better than I can shoot so that's good enough, nuff said...
Thanks for the detailed report. Glad to hear Lehr is building good ones, too.
Since this is a pic thread: another Wilson, this one was test fired on June 12, 2012:

A couple of my most recent acquistions:
A Clt Series 80 Enhanced Government that was built at Gunsite when they still worked on customer guns. Oddly, the original owner did not request the Raven engraved, however, a phone call to the smithy at Gunsite and the slide is currently in transit to have it added.

Dead sexy!
I was supposed to get my Grandfathers when he died, but before we'd even gotten the call that he'd passed on, my stupid uncles took everything of value and pawned it off. Still pissed about that.

I don't mean to turn this into a discussion, but just in case you were still wondering, the rear sight on the Commander 1911 is an old prototype Swenson.

The Wilson magwells are nice......if you don't mind the extra 1/4" of height or the need for thick magazine basepads.

Here is some more FRAG for yas.
These two are "team guns" from LTW. Besides the charity gun or guns we do each year, we team up a couple of our member 'smiths on guns that are then sold to help fund our presence at venues such as SHOT and NRA. By wierd happenstance I was on two teams this time-- with Don Williams of The Action Works and Steve Bailey of Heirloom Precision.
The team guns are always a challenge-- for the second guy. The first guy can run wild and put his own style all over it...... the second guy of course wants to put some of himself into it without creating a mismatch to what the first guy did. I got lucky on both of these and had first whack so I FRAG'd them both. Both Don and Steve put their heads, hands, and hearts into them and I think two great custom 1911's emerged.
For those that are unfamiliar with LTW, we are a consortium of custom 1911 smiths who collaborate on a custom 1911 or two each year, which is then raffled for the benefit of a selected charity. In years past we've done:
2006 $20K to Ted Nugent's Kamp for Kids
2007 $20K to Ted Nugent's Kamp for Kids
2008 $28K to Cops for Kids/ POSA, for pediatric cancer research
2008 $36K to americansnipers.org, helping servicemen with needs not met by the system, or in short supply
2009 $28K to americansnipers.org
2010 $40K to the Naval Special Warfare Foundation-- helping wounded SEALS and the families of those killed in the GWOT
2011 $22K to Navy SEALs Foundation
2012 >$50K to Navy SEALs Foundation
The Don Williams/Ned Christiansen collaboration:

BTW, our Steve Bailey, besides being an ass-kicking 1911 smith, is aslo a "plain ol' " ass kicker:
