As I understand, you are fairly clear in your preferences for standard birdcage flash hiders. However, here in California, we can ONLY have flash hiders on our AR's if the rifle is equipped with something called a "bullet-button". It fixes the mag in place, and can only be dropped from the gun using a tool like the tip of a bullet. There's no way I can use that practically in a fight.
The other configuration, which I'd like to run, is a "featureless" build. In exchange for having a standard mag release, the rifle cannot have so-called "evil features" on it, one of them being a flash hider. I can ONLY use a muzzle brake or compensator. In my case, what kind of muzzle device would you recommend? Which ones have you personally seen hold up very against high round counts and abuse?
