As I am shifting from one expensive hobby (4x4 rock crawling) to another (shooting, agian) I have been reading this site like a crack adict. And to my surprise I have learned ALOT about these rifles and the gear to use. I am a Marine and have had my Colt M-4 for some time and really like it. Anyway, what I am looking at buying is now the ADS rifle. After all of the discusion on accesories I am planning on keeping it to a minumim, a basic vertical fore grip, probably with the plastic handguards vice the rails, and a surfire x 300 mounted in front of the front sight 12 oclock, and top it with a aimpoint M3. I hated that my rifle in Iraq had so much crap added on to the front of it it was a PITA to carry around. I want to get back to shooting matches and really three gun. Thanks guys and any comments and tips are always appreciated.

Just get a Colt and put a quality rail on it. :)

with the plastic handguards vice the rails, and a surfire x 300 mounted in front of the front sight 12 oclock,

While there are a few products that will allow you to do this, I would look at mounting a short piece of rail to the handguard and attaching the light in the 10:30-ish position.

You will also likely find that attaching a vert grip to the standard handguards proves to be problematic for many, as the grip on the vert causes the handguards to shift a lot.

You might want to check the legalities of possessing an AR in CA, if you are still aboard Pendleton.

Oh I know I can't have one here, hell my sons 10-22 is illegal to have here because you can put a 25 round magazine in it. However I am a Az resident and still have familly there so thats where it would live until we move to Va. I didnt really think the plastic handguards would support a grip but I like to stay away from "gadjets", guess I will keep looking, thanks for the input!!!

ADS is a good quality weapon at a fair price IMHO.

I am generally against the bolt on rail to the HG's as you can break them. If you HAVE to run a VG, then stick with a light rail system. This will also make it easier to mount the X300.

I think the vert grip mounted on standard handguards is a bad idea. If you want to keep your FSB and still mount a VG then take a look at the DD Omega rail.
