G&R is commonly known for building expensive, high end AR's. We have decided to put together a budget line of AR's for the consumer that doesn't have deep pockets or someone that simply wants a "beater."

In order to try and keep the cost down, we left out the trigger and hammer. By doing this, the consumer avoids the 11% FET. So you will HAVE to add a trigger and hammer in order to make the gun run.

SPECS:

Stag Arms 16" 1/9 Twist Barrel
USGI A3 Upper (T-Marked)
CMT Charging Handle
BCM M4 handguards
BCM M16 BCG
BCM 6 position, mil-spec collapsible stock kit
Stag Arms Lower
Stag Arms LPK

PRICE: $659!!

You call that a "beater"?

That looks as good as any AR I've ever used (and better than some).

It is a well built AR (as we assembled it) so beater is most likely a poor term. :)

hey grant this is the 1st time viewing these sub-forums but glad I decided to look in.

I have a question about your "budget ar", since I have just started learning the ar system what do you think is a better way to upgrade/make my ar a "better more reliable" weapon system, since learning about ar's I have learned that my oly isn't the most sought after girl in town and I would like to make her better or upgrade with your "budget ar" since in these hard times saving for that full LMT or cmmg build is gonna take a awhile.

What is a better option, getting a full LMT upper or getting the "budget ar" since they are close in price? I plan on saving agressively for the LMT or CMMG but need an upgrade before November rolls around just in case times get harder and my family budget (read: WIFE) doesn't agree with me.

I need the ar to be very reliable in the interim since it really will be for my wife, I personally use an FAL and prefer them but for a midrange carbine I use an yugo m90a in .223 built by Jim Gravitt at Pro-Tech Engineering. Awesome system even if it is an u/f.

Also on your "budget ar" what is a BCM bcg (manufacturer?) I don't recognize the abbreviation.

BCM= Bravo Company Manufacturing (bravocompanyusa.com) in house brand. I've learned that they have one of the best full auto bcg, bolt carrier groups, you can buy in the sub 150 dollar range. Many high end AR vendors swear by them as primary or backup bcgs.

found this on another site re: BCM BCGs

SHOT PEENED AND MPI TESTED BOLT
SHOT PEENED AND MPI TESTED EXTRACTOR
ALL MAJOR COMPONENTS INCLUDING THE GAS KEY ARE ROCKWELL TESTED
EACH BOLT IS TEST FIRED PRIOR TO MPI TESTING.
EXTRA POWER CHROME SILICON EXTRACTOR SPRING
CHROME SILICON EJECTOR SPRING
BLACK BUMPER
PROPERLY SIDE STAKED GAS KEYS SECURED WITH GRADE 8 ALLEN SCREWS
MILSPEC FINISH APPLIED AT BCM
A CRANE "O" RING IS SUPPLIED WITH EACH BCM BCG SHOULD YOU DESIRE TO USE IT

Grant,

Is this a limited time deal?

I have two friends that are interested in purchasing these rifles but have to get funds together.

They're wondering what kind of timeframe they're operating on.

If you have the money or are willing to wait and save, go with an LMT or Colt.

Grant I understand the value of patience, but in regards to my time frame for saving for a LMT or CMMG (Colts are great I know) I will be training and having my wife trained as well so we need something to get us through several level 1 and 2 courses over the next year that wont fail on us in a "shoot school" course.

I doubt my OLY will survive our intended training schedule.

I would like to at least get something for "shoot school" that would hold up to the riguers of actual training not just static range shooting.

I would think that your budget ar would hold up fine in a "shoot school" environment that is harsh with 1500k rounds or more down range and rough and rugged terrain with bad weather, basically all that training can throw at it!!??

I still plan on getting a top of the line ar but I still need to train hard in the interim, bcuz i'm behind the bubble as far as that goes and the wife is just starting to shoot rifles.

Or should I just upgrade to a BCM BCG in my oly and use it to train with in "school" while I diligently save for my high end AR (LMT-CMMG)? Should an lower parts kit also be included in the upgrade (trigger kit etc,,,) with out killing my budget on saving. (say keep the upgrades to maybe $250 or less...then save for LMT)?
