I have 2 Gen 4 and have owned gen 3s in the past. I just ordered a nice Gen 2 and am installing RB1 sights and a Vickers mag release. Any thing I need to know and be watching for with the gen 2 G19? I know some here prefer it to other generations but just want to see if there is anything I should know vs the gen 4.
Thanks guys.

Youre allowed to have guns in NY? :)

No. Its a Glock, go shoot it. If you need replacement parts then order specific generation 2 replacement parts. Otherwise, you'll be fine.

Many would say Gen 2 was the peak of "Glock Perfection". I might be one to agree. As previously stated, shoot it. Chances are your trigger finger will fall off before you wear it out. Good purchase, enjoy!

It will be your favorite Glock. Enjoy it!

Look to see if it has one or two pins on the locking block. If it has one, (this would make it a two pin Glock, made only in 9MM) you would need a different slide stop than the current one, if you need to replace it. However, the Vicker's slide stop works in all models.

I did the "parts" upgrade from Glock, depending on the serial #. Email glock with the serial # and they will let you know if it needs the "upgrade".

Excellent. Thank you gentlemen. I should have it next week.

I found out its a 2 pin. Is that slide release an easy install? The mag release is about as easy as it gets so I know I can do that myself in 2 seconds as I've done it twice before.

Yes, just make sure that the "spring" on the slide release goes under the pin.

Excellent! I have a Gen2 and Gen3. I like the Gen2 better. Feels more compact. It would be one of the last pistols I'd ever get rid of. Congrats!

Ill give that a try this Fall. My schedule is scary in Fall and Spring. Ill report back. Would be cool to get a Gen 3, 3000 rds (1000 each) and did a review on all 3.

Yes, just make sure that the "spring" on the slide release goes under the pin.

FYI

With a 2 pin Glock, there is no locking block pin for the spring to go under. The spring tension is provided by the locking block.

Gen2 G19's are my personal favorite Glocks. I would suggest you send it to the factory for updates. There are somethings that all Gen2's need done that can only be done at the factory. Advisable if you want the longest life from your gun.

great gun there.. I would rather have a gen 2 19 over my gen 4

But I have not found a good one in a while

Some people look for Gen2 Glocks for their ejector and extractor combination that just work. If you do send your Gen2 to Glock I would swap out the old original extractor and ejector for one from a newer Glock before you send it in. Glock will surly replace them with MIM parts if left on the Glock as part of the update.

I would also look to replace the followers if they are older magazines.

I'll jump in late...

My Gen2 G19 was the best pistol I've owned. Traded it off for a brand new EOTech and still regret it.

You are going to love that Gen2, by far my favorite generation.

You should call Glock to check if that pistol had the 6 part update. If you do have to send it to Glock, make sure you remove all the non-Glock parts. When they do updates they remove all non-factory parts and replace them with Glock parts. They will send your parts back to you in a bag.

So far the only aftermarket parts on it are RB1 sights and a Vickers mag release and it'll probably stay that way. I prefer stock.
Ill be putting a few hundreds rds through it and my new Gen4 (back up) on Monday.
Internals look really nice and barely used. Thanks for the info, I will call Glock this week. Ill post more pics for the hell of it, especially after its first range visit.

This Glock has been upgraded, i can tell by the pics. Old parts are flat black, not nickel coated.

The update consists if the firing pin, firing pin safety, the extractor, the spring loaded bearing and the trigger bar.
Pistols BEFORE November of 1991 would need the update. You can check your serial number to see if you may need the upgrade. As stated earlier, the original internals were black, upgraded parts are lighter/shiny.

Fired 180rds. Really liking this thing and the lack of grooves. Only issue I had was after I dialed in the sights and put loctite on the screw, I either messed up the screw threads or they were already. The rear sight didn't move though which is good.
Recoil feels less springy if that makes sense. Maybe a little different in its recoil impulse but not much. Gen 4s have a springy sort of recoil IMO.
I was able to shoot where I wanted to at 5 and 10 yds. Fits my existing holster.

I really dig the gen4. Something I can't describe. I put 75 through my gen 4 reaching 1700rds on it.

Overall I'm very impressed by the gen 2 and its ergos. Looking forward to shooting it a lot.

This gun doesn't have the frame relief cut. Probably should ship it to Glock for the upgrade.

I don't have a photo handy. The relief cut can only be done at the factory. It "relieves" pressure on the frame as the gun fires. They discovered this in the 90's and it is basically built into all Gen3's and 4's. Without the relief cut in the older guns they may crack and fail over time.

I just picked up a gen 2 G19 yesterday, according to the LGS owner it was a police trade-in and it was a back-up gun so while it has some holster wear it's very clean on the inside. Almost no visible wear on the barrel. The gun is all original and has not had the six part upgrade.

I'm just back from the range, have only had time to run 100 rounds through it so far, and... it was so nice to shoot a 9mm Glock and not get hit in the head with brass :) my last one (a gen 3) had a serious problem with that.

The rear sight had been pushed all the way to the right end of the groove, apparently intentionally because it was tight. One of my buddies had a sight pusher in his bag so we centered the sight and after that the gun shot well at 12.5 yards. It will get real sights (not plastic) as soon as I have time to place an order.

I'd been pretty down on Glock's after my last experience, but I like this one a lot better so far. I really like the grip without the finger grooves. If the reliability holds, I'm going to be happy.

Good to hear. I'm at 463 rds on mine so far. Great gun. Not sure it would replace my Gen 4 yet but its nice all the same.
