Wow. Smooth as glass, accurate as hell, wonderful trigger, and its sexy. With Nato ball its super controllable and easy to shoot. With Federal bulk pack, its cheating. Its basically a tactical 22LR.

Offhand at 15 yard. First magazine fired.

The 5" P220's and P226's are awesome shooting pistols. I've got two 5" slides with factory night sights for my P220 and love them - when they run. My guns have the internal extractor on a stainless slide which does not run reliably over the long term. One slide went 750 rds, started double feeding, replaced extractor, went another 750 rds, started double feeding and was red lined. My other slide ran ~5,000 rds before it started having problems.

Bruce Gray is working on a fix for these stainless slides with internal extractors but it isn't perfected, yet. I would love for Sig to redesign the 5" slides with their external extractor like they did for the P220 Match with adjustable sights.

CFII-How many rounds do you have through your X5? I'm happy to hear good things about it.

I've shot with one guy who dropped the cash on one, and it never seems to make it through a range session without at least one stoppage. I honestly feel bad for him, he lost a shoot off against a guy shooting an M&P45 with just an Apex sear, striker block and 10-8 rear sight for upgrades(the M&P45 was mine). The M&P cost at a third of the price of his X5, but at least it ran. :/

Glad to see that a USA company, is still making some guns that the European makers, would love to copy.
I like my P-220 , , but I think the newer M&P's have a hell of a lot going for them.

This one is used, and has some wear. I shot 150 rounds through it yesterday. The pistol ejected into a nice little pile at 3oClock. I am crossing my fingers.

I've dealt with too many issues with them even with the small numbers of them out there and the ones that I have come across. Obviously they are not all alike, however the number of pistols in this category that I have come across having issues is a bit too many. Oddly enough we had one up at Sig a few months back and were troubleshooting it. Many of the armorer instructors had not even been introduced to or seen an X5 in its component form.

Well I am crossing my fingers with this one. The shootability alone is far superior to most duty 9mms to make it worth it.

I gotta admit, CFII's thread makes it look like a pretty sweet pistol.

Can you share some of the issues that you seen with these?

I have the X-5 L1 and it's an amazing pistol. If you miss with it there's no way in hell you can blame the gun. I have had a few feeding issues but they were with HP reloads using 10 round mags. If the issues persist with other ammo I might send it to Bruce Gray to add his new extractor. I knew going in there were some that had issues with the extractor but it's such a sweet shoooting pistol it hasn't really bothered me.

I always wanted one of these but I'm not adding any pistols to my collection at the moment.

But glad you're happy with it and thank you for the pics!

CFII - I hate you, brother. That's the ONLY Sig that makes me want another Sig right now... Sweet catch - congratulations!

Regards and stay safe!

Here's the target that came with my X-5. Just under .70" shot at 27 yards.

having so much time on a 226 i've alway been fascinated with that gun. Goin to have to call over to greys and talk to him about it a bit, longer barre, SA, seems like my kind of pistol. Also with sig now making a SAO 226 that is always another option.

The only thing to make the X5 tactical better is to add a suppressor. I really hate that Sig quit making these with threaded barrels.

Another range report:

I should sell all my other exquisite pistols and buy ammo. Nothing I have ever shot is as accurate, low recoiling, pleasant, reliable, and awesome. I laughed as I shot it today. Even after shooting my Nighthawk and P35, this blew both of them away.

This is 100 rounds of Tula and Military ball. 15 yards. From holster Mozambique drills and rapid fire.

I bought one used off the hide with a cerakoted silver slide. Great gun. Hard to find holders a few years ago for it. Ran great for me in the dust and dirt that made STI mags lock up. I found the grip and long slide just a bit odd. 2011s and M&P fit better. Very controllable - like a 2011 5.0 tactical in 45acp. Pushes more than recoils.

More expensive than M&P guns, which I moved to- less expensive than a nice 2011/1911 which is the only real offset with a good SA trigger.

German Sig quality with 1911 functionality. The kind of gun you can hand a newcomer to make them feel like a shooter.

Pretty spot on. It is, in my mind, a German 9mm 2011. It is as easy, if not easier, to shoot as my Inifinity. The only downside is the SIG night sights. I will have Dawson's soon.

Well, I was so impressed with this one that I bought another. This one is threaded with Heinie Straight Eights. Cabelas gave it to me for less than a grand out the door. Mint, literally unfired. I am ****ing happy.

Gorgeous!! I'd like to get my hands on one of these someday. Had an All Round version of the X5 but didn't care for the DA pull on it.

this is the older version, Sig has redesigned it to give it racier lines.

Took the Sig Lites of mine and installed a Dawson fiber optic front with a Warren rear. Use it for USPSA and 3Gun

I do like the lines of the new model, but I dont know how much they compare. I know that X5s are soon going to made in the USA only. I think a pair of German guns is hard to mess with. Here are some new wood grips:

I just pulled the trigger on an X5 Tactical. I love the P226 but I prefer SAO or striker fired guns.

I carry full sized guns like the G17 and 1911 and have carried a P226 with X300 installed in the past. I may end up carrying this one too since Comp Tac makes an IWB for it.

Good to hear. I shot both of mine last night. ****ing amazing handguns. Dawson sights are a worthy upgrade from the stock night sights. At 25m its a dead ringer. It is almost too easy to shoot.

Are those Dawson or Heinie sights ? Also is are the sights the same height as standard P226 sights ?

CFII

The threaded one has Heinie Straight 8s. The other one in the pic has the old sights. I put the Dawsons on last night. They are a bit taller than the factory sights, but not by much. I can get some pics tmw when I have light.

I ran across a new X5 Entry in .40S&W at the local LGS, for what appears to be a decent price. I'm tempted to have them set it aside for me. I can always have Bar-Sto fit a 9mm barrel for it, and they're in my area so I could drop it off directly for Irv to fit....

Hmmm. Pistol, 9mm barrel, different grips, and change out sights. Might be doable.

Wonder if I'd get laughed out of the Vickers class I hope to take in May if I ran it? Seeing as how it's not a polymer duty gun.

I would not hesitate one bit to shoot my X5 in a pistol class. I dont know much about a caliber conversion, but if it runs, it runs. The X5 is far easier to shoot than polymer striker pistols. My PPQ is a handful in comparison.

Coal Dragger
01-14-15, 17:13
I'd probably wait to do that unless Bar-Sto could get it right in. I reload, so my effective difference in cost between 9mm and .40S&W is miniscule.
