It is finally coming to life after months of work and hopefully will be showing at the NRA show.
I have been putting together the drawings and parts for a 17 HMR to run on an AR 15 lower, essentially a dedicated upper. This is the HMR not the Mach2 so it should be good for accuracy to 200 as long as the wind does not play.
16" fluted stainless barrel (2 grades cut and buttoned)
vented composite free float hand guard or LaRue rail
flat top upper.
Mags will run with a mag block like a 9mm and we currently plan on releasing a ten and twenty round version (double stack). Thinking about cutting a dedicated lower for those who might want to have the rifle as a single set up.

Picture of the first presentable unit, this one has an 18" barrel from Satern. We are only waiting on the magazine tooling before we start production. Unit price will run around $700 for the upper as shown with a 16" fluted factory grade barrel. This includes the mag block, magazine, extended mag latch and recoil cassette which replaces the existing buffer and spring.
Scope is a little large!

When do you see it comming out? What will extra mags go for? It should be a lot cleaner to shoot than .22 LR.

Verrrrry interesting!!
Will this upper require any changes to any lower parts (ie: hammer)?

No problem with the build, it will be good to have someone else making a few variations and will help expand the market faster. The drawing pack is essentially sealed and we are chasing down the final tooling costs for the magazines but this is a little slower than I would like. As soon as I get the mags I am ready to roll on production.
Three months sound about right at present but hopefully faster. The first batch will hopefully be closer.

The conversion will require that the buffer and spring are replaced with a one piece recoil casette and the magazine latch will need to be changed out for a different unit. The mag catch was the cause of a lot of debate. It might have been possible to work the conversion without a change but finally we took function over the compromise of the existing part.
The recoil casette will not allow any other upper to be accidentally placed on the reciver and used by mistake.

:)Thanks for thinking outside the box. Where I shoot squirrels I can only shoot the .17hmr. How do I get in line to buy one?Picture of the first presentable unit, this one has an 18" barrel from Satern. We are only waiting on the magazine tooling before we start production.
