Group need to pick the collective wisdom on new sights, now as I approach the big 70 and tri-focal are the norm the old standard Glock set up isn't working out any more, I have all ways used big black rear sights and a gold bead on my 1911's , but those are getting weak too. Would like a rear thats more open, "U" ,shape ghost ring you name it to gather more light front is open to ideas, except fiber optic

What say you??? And thanks

If you have the $$ to spend on Trijicon HD's, do it.

I went with Ameriglo's, I have three different types, the Kyle Defoors, Pro-I dot (my favorite) and the CAP sights.

At about half the cost of the Trijicon HD's, and awesome customer service, I would recommend at least taking a look.

My eyes are not what they used to be either, and I've found I prefer a gaudy front sight and subdued rear sight. XS sights fit that bill pretty well.

Another Trijicon HD user here. Older eyes too and these work great.

I use Trijicon HD in Yellow bc I could no longer tolerate the Trijicon 's with the white outline. From my 20's-40's the standard Trijicons worked just fine then at 45 they didn't. I'm using progressive glasses btw. I hope I never have to use XS Big Dots.

10-8 Performance offers the U rear sight you're referring to. Check out their website as it offers advise on what their rear sights will work with. No experience with the Trijicon HD fronts, but one would probably work with a 10-8 rear.

Just FYI, the HDs have a "U" rear sight.

My favorite sights I've ever put on a handgun are Trijicon HDs. The combination of a wide-U rear(minus white outline around tritium) and the big bright front have made me noticeably faster while maintaining good accuracy out to 15 yards. At 20+ I find myself having to consciously slow down some to maintain decent groups. I'm adding a Gen4 G17 to the stable any day now so I've been looking at what options I have for putting together a set of sights similar to the HDs but possibly slightly narrower rear U and slightly narrower bright front in hopes of improving times and groups at distance.

I had the Trijicon HD's on my Glock 19. Went to Warren Tactical plain U notch rear and a Trijicon front (Dave Seveigny set) for my Glock 17. Shot better with the Warren's. Probably because the Trijicon HD's is wider and the big yellow dot made longer range shots a bit harder.

YMMV. When I picked up the HD's, they were like, $120. I recently found out they're $150-160 now,:confused::confused:

Another vote for the Trijicon HD sights. I have the yellow ones on both of my carry guns. Makes it easier to pick up the front sight quickly.

Just did some LEOSA quals for our retired guys. A bunch of the older fellas had Trijicon Hd's. Loved them. Big bright front sight and big U notch rear.

DJ,I'll second the 10-8 Performance sights. The .156 width serrated black rear is great for older eyes, and I'm in the same boat with you Amigo.
Narrow front is also available with a gold bead or tritium.Just your cup of tea and I think they would work great for you.
Hope you are doing well.I really miss reading your stories. Keep an eye on 10-8's site to see when they are in stock.

Just went with Trijicon HD's for the P-30. Orange front. I do a lot of shooting between 15 and 25 yards. I can see that these will be a little imprecise at those ranges but I'm sure I'll get used to them.

They really jump out at you, even with middle age eyes.

+1 Green Ameriglo CAPs for my old eyes. Downside is no U rear for your preferences.

Pro-Sights. http://www.tacticalshooting.com/about-pro-sights/

Fully adjustable with NO moving parts.

Brutally rugged steel construction.

The square notch blade sight picture is the most accurate I've seen, it's like cheating.

For those with poor vision the v-notch blade is also excellent, and doesn't have any of the shortcomings of the XS, namely vertical stringing.

You can switch between the two blades with a screwdriver.

Full disclosure the manufacturer is a friend.

The big 70 is rapidly approaching for me too.

That said, my eyes are developing cataracts. While I can still shoot accurately, my ability at distance is somewhat degraded...

Guys, get your eyes checked - getting old is one thing, but degrading vision may possibly be corrected with a little surgery if you have cataracts...

I have tried the trijicon hd on my glock 19 and 17. The front sight dot is very large and bright. Very visible but I did not like the sight picture. Did I say the front dot is HUGE? Tried Tru glo......hated those. Buddy had a set of Warren Tactical night sights on his 17. I tested his and liked the sight picture much better. I now have these sights on 4 of my Glocks now.

Go with Heinie Slant Pro Straight Eight sights. 2nd to none.

Warren/Sevigny, 10-8, etc. are all based on the original Heinie.

I went with Red back one combat sights on my G21, quality product and easilly installed at home. With the wider .158 notch, the front sight is easier and quicker to pick up. I, also, was having trouble with sight picture of the stock sights, guess it is time to get the eyes checked.

Understood Dave.At least I know where to go back and reference your work when I need a good read.I don't argue much these days, just keep doing what I know works and let others do the same.Hope you find something that works for you and good luck on your quals. I think you can wing it.;)

Meprolight green/green tru dots have a smaller gap on the rear sight and in my experience I can shoot more accurately with them. That's my vote, had trijicon, no bueno for me.
