View Full Version : Means to achieve CORE-type stippling on M&P?
I know that stippling is one of those things that can be as easy or as complex as a person wants to make it. I personally don't want mine to be too aggressive, but the stock M&P is a little slick for my tastes. In feeling the texturing on the M&P CORE backstrap, that feels about perfect to me. What is the best method to achieve that feel in a full-circumference grip on my STD M&P 9?
Thanks!
I'd like to get some CORE back straps. I wonder if S&W would sell me a couple?

I heard in the past that they would not. If you find out otherwise, please let me know.

They will not sell them.

Confirmed...just got off the phone with S&W customer service.
So...best tool/tip to get similar results? I don't care about the lines and patterns of the CORE...just the feel.
Thanks!

I don't think you can replicate it. With that said, a fine point tip with power control rheostat would be the way to go and get you pretty close.

I used a cheap soldering iron I picked up from Home Depot that had the finest/sharpest point I could find. You end up with stippling that's pretty darn near identical to the CORE.

The easiest way for anyone to get good stippling is to use some kind of patterned tool, which most have to make into a waffle type pattern, and get it heated up and stamp it until you get the texture and coverage wanted.

I prefer small, but could work with medium. I will be your friend and do nice things for you if you can hook me up!!!:D

Please ignore the rather strange appearance of the gun. It is currently undergoing some major surgery. The reason it has holes in the sides of the grip is because I removed the grip panels entirely and filled in the gaps with Devcon plastic welder, and the stuff doesn't flow very well. It's similar to what Diversified Firearms Concepts does on their M&P grip reductions (one of which I have, it's outstanding). I'll be filling in the gaps/holes, sanding, and giving it a more professional appearance.

Pick up a wood burning tool from a local hobby store. Their cheap and come with several styles of tips. Works great
