View Full Version : 10-8 rear sight ---which size notch???
I would like to try out the brass bead/10-8 rear sight combo for my M&P Shield.
The rear sights are offered with a .140 or .156 notch.
Im leaning towards the wider size due to the short sight radius on this weapon.
Does anyone have experience with this set up? Does the wider notch give up too much in terms of precision?
I appreciate your feedback. Thanks
I'm using Heinie S8 Ledges which have the .156" rear .125" front and love them. Fast yet precise.
Personally, as I get older I have found I prefer a wider rear notch, particularly on smaller or defensive purposed pistols. I find it lets me pick up the front sight quicker, and I have not noted a loss in accuracy.

This. The .140 rear works fine for me on a Glock 17,but for my older eyes and the shorter sight radius pistols the .156 works better. It will be the .156 for me from here on out. My favorite sights for my own needs.
I have the 10-8 .156 rear on my Glock 17 and am happy with it. Yes, I am one of those with older eyes. Not sure if I could use the .140 or not, but have not looked through any so can't help there.
I appreciate the responses. I will get the .156 version. It should be a good set up
I have a gold bead on one of my 1911's , old school style. That gold bead is amazing.

I am going to have to try a gold bead front for my next set of sights. I have the Ameriglo Hackathorn orange/tritium front on the Glock 17 with the 10-8 rear, but in some lighting conditions the orange doesn't stand out.
The gold beads actually work pretty well at night when used in conjunction with a hand held light in the old Harries position or similar.I havn't tried one with a weapon mounted light,so I can't speak to that.
I have the gold beads on a couple of handguns. They're old school cool and actually pick up more ambient light than you would expect. I like them ,but still prefer a tritium front on a weapon to be used in the dark.
