I keep going back and forth on which kit to buy for my brand new M&P 9mm (4.25 w/o safety). This pistol will mainly be used for the range and then sitting in a locked gun vault beside the bed (HD). I will NOT carry it since I have a M&P shield on order.

Also, is Apex going to make a replaceable polymer trigger for the Shield? I would probably want to keep the triggers the same.

Do you recommend purchasing the Apex RAM too?

According to Apex, the FSS is recommended for range and competition use only. If that is your sole intent for this handgun, I see no reason you shouldn't if you want to replicate as closely as possible the 1911 trigger. I highly recommend the RAM. I have the DCAK and RAM in my M&P 9 and it's a night and day difference in the trigger. It has an actual reset.

+1 on the RAM. If your model will accept it, it's one of the highlights of APEX's product line.

I have an M&P40 fullsize in 40 with the DCAEK and the RAM installed. Much better than stock. I havent had the oppurtunity to try a FSS out but it sounds cool.

Don't know about the poly trigger for the shield, but the aluminum trigger is supposed to be out in December. (Apex facebook page)

I just got mine back from Apex and it's a night and day difference.

Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Kit
Polymer AEK trigger
RAM
Failure-Resistant Extractor
installation of new Heinie Stright-8 Sights
removal of magazine disconnect

trigger weight measured at 4lbs 13ozs

Their turn around time was phenomenal. I was quoted the standard 4-6 weeks but I got a call about 10-12 days after I dropped it off saying it's ready. however, because of my new job and move, I wasn't able to go until about 4 weeks later. lol

I wasn't anticipating to get the AEK trigger, but after dry firing a number of M&Ps at APEX with various parts installed, it felt great. Shooting it felt even better. On the stock trigger, the hinge design wasn't bad but I'm not used to it. I prefer a solid trigger. The pull now is very clean, with an extremely crisp break and VERY tactile reset - one of the biggest complaints about this gun is the lack of reset. Before the work, mine was nonexistant. A few times while shooting I "short stroked" the trigger (if that's the correct term?) and had to let it out again for it to reset.

Nothing too special about the extractor. I like that they kept the outside of it clean, unlike some other brands that plaster their name all over everything they make.

Heinie Sights are very clean and give a good picture.

Overall I'm very happy with the gun. I shot about 20-25 rounds into a 5" circle at ~15 yards (as fast as I could get back on the sights), and had no problems hitting IPSC silhouette steel out to 75 and 100 yards when I did my part.

Thanks for the great info everyone! Hossb7...since you tried the different triggers at APEX, what did you like better about the DCAEK over the FSS? Thanks again!!

I have the FSS on my M&P's and prefer it. Has more of a 1911 feel to me.....short take up and a crisp break with no overtravel.

I should clarifiy: I don't believe I tried the FSS. What I meant was I tried the DCAEK with and without their Polymer AEK trigger and with/without the metal version.

With that being said, the staff at Apex is extremely helpful. They're only a phone call away and I'm sure they'd be able to answer all of your questions based on your expected use of the handgun.
