View Full Version : Witness Marking - What to Use?

I just installed a 10-8 rear sight and would like to provide myself a witness mark that I can watch to make sure I can see any drifting over time. Would a thin-tipped Sharpie be sufficient enough? I'm wondering if it would be able to weather a slide wipe-down or oiling during cleaning time, etc.

A scribed line is best as it will be easiest to see if the sight moved and return to the correct point if you have to strawberry it.

Chances are if it's going to move, it will do so in the first 300 rounds or so, a paint marker should hold up that long.

YMMV

A very sharp (pointed) metal scribe can be used to make a very thin line that can also be used to help adjust your sight if needed.

I use white nail-polish for all my witness marking needs.

Thanks for the input. I'll give these a go.
