View Full Version : Why don't other manufacturers make glock 19 sized guns?

I hear many people say the glock 19 is the perfect size. I agree that it's a great size. The grip is big enough to get a good solid hold. It holds 15 rounds which is plenty in my opinion. But, it is not bigger than it needs to be. Most full size guns (m&p, PPQ, p30, etc) have a bigger grip that is harder to conceal. Most compact guns are harder to get a solid grip. The only gun I have heard is basically the same size is the m&p 45c. Am I missing a bunch? Why doesn't every manufacturer make one or more that size? The size of the glock 19 is one of it's best attributes. It wouldn't be hard to copy. Why don't they? I think any good gun that size would be a home run.

HK P2000 and USP compact are both 5 inches in height... Same as the Glock 19.

The PPQ is about 1/4 inch taller.

I find my PPQ to be functionally smaller to carry and more concealable than my Glock 19 in a Raven Phantom and a Speed Scabbard. The butt doesn't stick out as much. I consider the two to be the same size, with the edge in carry-ability going to the PPQ.

See the "Glock 19 is perfect size" assertion a lot, but don't get it. Have one and like it, but there are as good or better sizes IMHO. Smaller albeit with lower round counts and bigger without much a loss in concealment. I think some pretty highly regarded SMEs have noted that the 19 doesn't give you anything the 17 does not as the size difference is not that much different from the 17 for reliability and increase in capacity.

Have you carried both day in and out? I'm a pretty skinny guy and I can hide my G19 in a t-shirt and shorts all day long. My 17 on the other hand has enough extra length that it looks like I'm smuggling a brick down my pants. There is a huge difference for me.

I agree that there are differently sized guns ideally suited for different roles, but I think many believe (myself included) that the G19 is a perfect size because it's a jack-of-all-trades size. Not too big for CC, but not too small for social work.

If S&W ever came out with an M&P that is single stack and the size of a G19, I'd buy ten. Here in California, since I can only have a max of ten rounds anyway, guns and mags tend to have a lot of wasted space.

If ANYONE came out with a gun like that, I'd be right there with you.

The original Kahr, P225 and some of the smaller 1911 variants are similarly sized. Obviously not analogous with regards to capacity, but they all conceal with relatively the same ease and all offer a full enough grip for all but the most monstrous of hands.

Try the Walther PPQ ... best stock striker action handgun out there. Nice and compact.

I second this, love my PPQ. My LGS has one for $409.

Are you sure that is right? Is it new? That is likely below cost.

So you are saying you get extra dates when you carry the 17?

I would personally love an M&P that is dimensionally the same as a G19, but there are some good options out there. I'm guessing there will be some new compacts introduced at SHOT Show, this segment of the market seems to be getting more and more popular, especially for non enthusiasts looking for a basic home defense pistol.

Yes I have a friend that has been wanting one and he got it today, but they had one more. It was NIB and marked down from $499.

The CZ P-07 should be pretty close as well. Here's a P-07 vs. G19 vs. G17 pic that I found:

Other than Glocks, and about the same size as a Glock 19? Let's see, in no particular order:
1911 CCO (See Dan Wesson Guardian for a good example)
M&P 45c
HK P2000, USPc (9/40/45)
CZ 75 Compact, PCR, P-01(P-06 in 40), P-07
Sig 239, 228/229, 245/220 Compact, 250c
Beretta 92 Compact, Px4 Compact
Kahr T/TP (p=polymer)

Honorable mention to Walther PPQ and HK 45c for being just a hair longer in the grip, but not quite Glock 17-sized.

Hope that helps!

Hell, my HK45C is virtually identical to a Gen3 Glock 19--and it shoots real bullets.;)

I am late, but as others have pointed out, many options already exist. Someone needs to look around a bit more.

Kahr TP9
Sig P239

The whole point of this theoretical single stack 9mm is to be the same length and height, but thinner. The P239 is .02 inches fatter than a G19, and single stack. Fail.

Kahrs are temperamental at best in my experience and not really suitable for my carry needs. Not a fan of any pistol that the factory acknowledges will not be fully reliable for the first few hundred rounds. YM, of course, MV.

Lol, maybe I should start carrying AIWB when I haul out the 17...

I've got big hands and even I find the G19 "bulky". The M&P 9mm just feels better, of course you have to replace that miserable trigger.

My G19 and M&P9 full size is right at the same size.

Not a single stack, but if I were forced to live in CA, the M&P45 midsize would be my choice. 10+1 and roughly the same foot print as the G19.

Shoot, I live in a free state and I still dumped every Glock and M&P in 9mm for 45 M&Ps. I have both full size and compacts and am very happy
