Quote from LWRC:

Nitrocarburizing is a surface conversion process in place of industrial hard chrome and is therefore inherently free from nodules, flaking, pits, stripping, or anode burrs.

Having only RARELY heard of chrome lining flaking, is this something that occurs fairly often? What about the other issues mentioned in the above quote? What could cause any of these issues? Darren Mellors from LWRC also went on to mention that chrome lined bores are not used in DMR or sniper rifles because they are less accurate. Last time I checked, FN's line of SPR and PBR rifles have chrome lined chambers/bores and I've personally seen both produce some scary accurate groups.

Any comments on this?

Not being an expert on chrome lining (or anything else for that matter :D) I would suspect that most problems come from insufficient or inadequate prep and/or finish work, i.e. getting the site ready for the application of the chrome and properly "smoothing" things out afterward. However, from my own experience and word of mouth I do not believe that problems with hard chrome lining are anything near "widespread". In fact, I'd venture to say that it is a rarity.

Nitro-carburizing may be hard chrome's replacement. Time will tell.....
