I picked up a Glock 30S about a month ago. Sent it off immediately to Smyrna to get Night Sights installed, so I wasn't able to shoot it much before sending it off.

A little background: I own 8 Glocks. I believe it is the single, best pistol platform out there. I shoot competition with my Glock 34, 35, and 24. I carried my 26, 20 and 22. The easiest gun I have to shoot is the 24, with brass magwell and grip plug, even my wife likes it.

I got my 30S back yesterday, and had to take it to the range today. I have shot Glock 30's, 30SF's, 29's, 26s, 27s, but holding the 30S in my hand felt infinitely better; it felt, as near as makes no difference, like a Glock 19 in my hands. It fit like a glove. I can't say that about other subcompact Glocks. During shooting, I never felt like I was fighting the gun, I never felt like my grip was being compromised. I did try some 230gr +P and that definitely shook the hand a little, but I was still able to maintain a firm grip; it was the same feeling about you've been using a palm sander for a while, a tingling in the hands.

I had no failures of any kind after 300 rounds.

The most astounding thing about the Glock 30S is the accuracy. I am not sure whether it is the easy of shooting/fit in the hand, or if it is the inherent mechanical accuracy of the gun, but between 10-15 yards it is a ragged hole shooter, even at reasonable speed. Follow up shots are fast, double taps are less effort than my Glock 20.

This gun has absolutely replaced my Glock 26, which I will strongly consider selling.

On the down side, my wife hates shooting the 30S. She says the recoil too unpleasant, but I don't really notice.

The target on the right is at 10 yards, the target on the left is 15. Each target has approximately 150 rounds of .45 through it.

I got too tired loading 10 round magazines at round 300, so I just didn't bother shooting the last five on the second target. My thumbs are hurting ...

Nice shooting. I'm still debating getting a 26 or a Shield. Can't afford another caliber, especially .45.

I drank the Glock cool-aid a long time ago, but my buddy bought a Shield and I really like it. On its own merits, it really stands up as a solid pistol. I am just too invested in Glock.

The Glock 26 definitely doesn't get my motor revving like this Glock 30S. It is probably my least fun Glock to shoot, but I love it. After surgery, I stuck my Glock 26 in my shoulder sling for two months.

Can't think of a reason that would cause me to replace my 26 with a 30S but different strokes for different folks.

I don't think I would sell the 26; there are too many times I need something small, even pocketable, but on the whole, the 30S will become my regular CCW. It goes back to the whole 26 vs. 19--different tools for different situations.

Thanks for the review. I will definitely be adding a 30S to the collection.

I'd agree if caliber is not a concern. However, the G30S appears to be an attractive option for people looking for a very compact and reliable 45 caliber platform. In fact, I can't think of a smaller 45 that I'd trust with my life since it is smaller than a HK45c or M&P45c.

That would be a very nice pistol. Unfortunately, it may be a while before we see such an animal since the Gen 3 version was released just a few months ago.

G30S vs XDs in 45, What say we/yee?

So should I be looking to replace my 36 with the 30S??

I say 30S, no doubt. The XDs is not the most pleasant shooting gun, I am not a huge fan of the trigger, and while SAs customer service is great, I have used it probably a dozen time over the last few years. I have never used Glocks, he'll even Taurus'. I own many guns, but I will never own an SA again. I'd buy A GLOCK
36 before an XDs.

I am very biased, though.I could write a book on SA failures in my personal experience. I bought my first glock in 2000, now I own 8. I have never had a single issue with any of them, even my comp guns. I shoot Glock, and only Glock

Question to those of you who have handled the 30S. Do you think that with an additional frame reduction/texture job, the 30S would make for an effective deep concealment/BUG? The idea being to make this small .45 even closer in size to a Glock 26 and be able to accept Glock 21 magazines from a duty firearm.

I definitely think so. With the proper IWB holster, it disappears just like a G26. It definitely won't work in an ankle holster, but for appendix carry or SOB (I know that is a controversial one), I think it would make a great accompaniment to a Glock 21. The slim slide really makes it discrete, and with a 9 round magazine, I think it would make a proper BUG. I can carry it IWB with just a T-Shirt (obviously not fitted).

I think it ultimately depends on body type. It is no single stack .380.

There are all kinds of folks successfully using G30s (plural) in UC, BUG, and deep concealment. Including ankle holsters. Smart holster choice and dedication to the gun is critical.

Considering getting rid of my 27 for a 30S...

Wouldn't part with a 26 for one, but a 27 for 30S in a minute.

Anybody had the 30s and a S&W M&P 45c to compare and contrast?

There is a sportsmans wharehouse out here that I was going to in a few. They had both a day or two ago so if they do, I'll try to get a pic of them together.

Can someone help me out with the front sight height to use in combo with a Heinie or Warren rear.

The 30S is by far my smoothest and most accurate Glock. It's also my HD gun of choice (besides my shotgun). I leave it for my wife when I'm away on business and add a 13 rd mag and light to it. It's too big to carry most days and I carry 9mm for rd count. So it's either the Shield or G19 for my on CCW

Nice report and shooting man!

I've had/shot the 19, 21, 21sf, 22, 23, 26, 27, 30, 30sf, 36 and 30s was the gun we were putting together with our 30 frames and 36 slides before Glock took notice and made one proper like.

The 30s is almost the same size as a 19, just a tad thicker and easy to conceal appendix for me. 6'0/170#

It feels like a 19 in hand and is VERY accurate. They are easy to shoot with std pressure 230gr ammo too, there's no need for +p .45 in any gun, big and slow 230gr bullets have been doing wonders since inception.

The only other gun that beats it is the Gen4 30s yet to be released.

I just got a 30s and a 19 today. They are the same size if the 19 doesn't have the mag inserted. The grip on the 19 is a hair narrower than the 30s. I would like to under cut or round out the bottom of the trigger guard. I find that my middle finger feels a bit uncomfortable if I get a really high grip on the gun. I've shot a 30s before and I really liked it overall. I chose a .45 cause i already have and fnp45 and had a sig 220 combat.

After I runtime rnds down range I'll decide if I still want to alter the trigger guard.

Definitely the most interesting Glock to me after the base 17. I played with one of these at a gun shop a few weeks back and it was a very slick package. I have an HK45c that fills this role, but if I didn't have that and I was looking for a plastic .45 the G30s would be top on my list.

No Need? "no need" is like the term "good enough" they are both the enemy of Better! Excess of anything is always better, bigger bullets, faster bullets. Chances are you will only use it once for its intended purpose, I want every advantage available and will cheat every chance I get. Whoever said "everything in moderation" is a wuss! this is America, we built the world's best damn country on more, better, faster, bigger. Its like saying. TNT is good enough, no need for a nuclear bomb. Glad not too many Americans think like that or the whole world would be speaking Japanese and German.
