View Full Version : Range Bag options?

For various reasons, I prefer a range bag with lots of external pockets for quick access to specific gear I might need, rather than rooting around inside the bag for everything.

I was wondering if anyone had a Patrolman's Bag, such as the one pictured here, and had any thoughts about its suitability as a range bag. I'm using a Hatch patrolman's bag right now, but it's starting to come apart after about a year and a half's use and I figured I'd look elsewhere before defaulting to another.

The black-only thing kills me. But the bag looks like it would meet my needs very well.

Eagles range bag is awesome, but chronically unavailable.

5.11s Range Bag is cheap as dirt. Mine busted in short order.

I-Shot makes good ones. I prefer to buy American made stuff, but it's quality is great.

Blackhawk's Range Bag is sturdy enough, cheap, and more importantly available.

Why not something like this (http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100625093&N=10000003+90401)? I use something similar and am very happy with it.

M4GURU:

When did you try and order an Eagle Range Bag with no luck?

There will be a new Range Bag released around August/September.

In terms of a superior product you have three choices IMHO based on 23+ years in law enforcement. Eagle, Eagle or Eagle. :)

I have so much iShot stuff, I give it away. They've been very good to me and I still use their small bag when traveling. I also use their mag sleeves all the time.

While I'm sure the Eagle shooter's bag is absolutely fabulous, it lacks features that I specifically want and which this patrol bag seems to address. I like to have quick access before, during, and after shooting to things like:
Eyepro
Earpro
Cleaning supplies
Tools
Shot timer
Pens/markers
Targets (I generally use 5x8 cards for torso targets and 3x5 cards for head targets)

... etc. Dumping all of that into the bag and having to root around for it just isn't as easy for me as knowing that my Militec is in a certain pocket, etc.

Rob -- while that bag looks interesting and is certainly cheap enough to buy and discard if it doesn't work, the open top pockets would be too easily compromised during travel, etc. Stuff that falls out sucks.

I agree that it would not be good for "travel", my travel is limited to wherever I can get in my car so having exposed items is not an issue. This is actually what I use, and it's even more open. Like you, I hate rooting around in a bag that keeps wanting to close in on itself.

I have an Eagle patrol bag almost (if not exactly) identical to the picture you posted. For me at least it's perfect for the range.

I have one of the big (Mod now I think) I-Shot range bags. I've used it for 3 years and frankly it's just too big. Huge range bags encourage carrying more crap in them. I don't need any more encouragement in that area either. I like Helmie's kit but this one is just too big for it's own good. Stitching and all has held up fine but the bag is too long and the material hasn't been able to hold it's own under heavy loads. I've seriously downloaded it but I'd rather have a smaller bag.
