I am in the market for a BUIS and noticed this offering from Midwest Industries. Does anyone have one of these? Thoughts? Should I just get another Troy?

I currently have ARMS #40 BUIS (2x #40 and a #40L) on my carbines, but recently picked up a couple SPLPs for use on new projects. They appear to be pretty well made, but they aren't as robust as the Troy or PRI equivalent. The trade-off is that they are about 1/3 less expensive. I think they will work fine for my purposes. I like the low profile design, and the locking mechanism is fast and secure. I also like that it defaults to the large aperture (vs. the #40L which defaults to the small one) and that the apertures are same-plane. The windage knob is small, but easy to rotate. I'm not too worried about accidental movement, and I like the convenience compared to the A1 style detent/wheel. I haven't tried rotating the knob with gloves on, though; its small size might make that problematic... we'll see.

In short, if you've got the Troy and like it, and money is no object, go ahead and get another. If you're looking for a BUIS that shares some of the Troy's attributes (low profile, same-plane, locks up and down), is well made and a little lighter on the wallet, and if absolute ruggedness isn't a requirement, give the SPLP a look.

My $.02.

I had the ERS first and found it to very loose. Sold it to some guy. Went back to my YHM BUIS. That being said I handled the SPLP at my local range. It is a lot tighter than the ERS. I would give that model a chance. The ERS though is a no go.

I have the MI on a carbine and it is a good sight. I have sold a dozen of them and no complaints.
