After a long wait, the VLTOR SM-OCG has been delivered! The quality of this mount is fantastic and its ability to use both the SF G and Classic series lends to its versatility. I also like that nothing can come apart on this mount (no knobs or parts to lose).

Retail price on it is $59.

Plus on on Grant's thoughts.
I got mine in the mail last week. It is everything I wanted. Very solid, easy to install, no movement whatsoever on my SF 6P.
Very good detailed instructions (if your into reading instructions).
You won't be disappointed with this mount.

Guys, this is THE ring to run on an Ultimak for use on an AK variant if you don't want to go with a railed forend.

LAV using one of the first rings on his Arsenal Inc. SLR-106CR.

Me too! I love the Vtac mount, but having something similar that doesn't require tools to take off would be even better.

I can tell you that based on what I saw of it this past weekend it will be the perfect light mount for what I need. I'm going to run mine on my SLR-107CR on an Ultimak rail; the same setup that LAV is running in the picture above.

Hmmm, definitely a nice alternative to the daniel defense offering that ive been using for the past year. I watched my girlfriend drop my light and PAK mount in the damned dust two weeks ago. We had to search around in the dirt for all of the little bits and pieces of that mount.

The fact that the vltor mount is one piece is PRICELESS as far as im concerned.

Slightly off topic but how does LAV activate the light in that picture?

I believe that Larry is left handed and has his rifle setup for lefty use. In that picture he is shooting from his weak side which is why it would appear difficult to activate the light. Normally, I suspect he uses the thumb on his right hand.

ETA: I probably shouldn't have posted my speculation. I'm sure any of the forum members that attended that class could accurately answer your question.

Does the mount/light rotate where the roll pin is? If so, what keeps it in position where one wants it?

I can't be sure without having one in hand, but I believe that is how the mount tightens against the light to hold it in place.

Nope, you got it right, except that LAV is right handed but left eye dominant, so he normally shoots from the left shoulder. We were doing transition drills when I took that picture, so he's shooting from his "weak" shoulder.

Are the two knobs a quick-release, no-tools-needed feature?

I just got one of the Vicking Tactical mounts, which you need an allen wrench to move. Any quick-off alternatives I could find were too bulky.

The VLTOR unit is compact, and would be preferred to the Viking if quick-off capable.

Mine is a first run pre production prototype - I can see from the pics that Eric has made some nice little detail tweaks like beveled edges

overall this is a nice piece of kit and one that I had bugged Eric about for a long time since the other similar mount of the market made of plastic has some well noted durability issues

Cheers

Not to flame the product, but I'm having some issues. Let me say that I really like the design and the fact that your can remove the light from the weapon and mount without tools. However, I can't get the mount to firmly hold my light (Pentagon X3) in place.

First, I was having problems with the mount coming loose from the rails when firing. No matter how tight I clamped down on the set screws they would loosen in about 10 rounds or less. A lock washer of some type under the set screws would have been great.

Nevertheless, I loctited the set screws and screwed them in as tight as I could by hand with the light in place. Went to the range today and put about 100 rounds down range...and what do you know....the light slid forward about an inch in the mount. Set screws still tight as can be and loctited. Can't budge the light, fowards or backwards, by hand even after it moved during live fire. Any suggestions on how to stop the light from moving while shooting?

Thanks.

The light body is most likely under 1". I would suggest buying a SF lights or taking some plyers to the screws and cranking them down.

I got my mount from Grant about two weeks ago. It works perfectly with my surefire G2, and puts the light right where I want it.

I'm going to do somthing other than the LMT front sight though. The mounting knob for the sight keeps the light from going forward far enough for me to get at the button with my thumb, with my vertical grip where I want it.

I used a Malkoff LED emitter in this one, it's so bright it's scary.

Finally got my grubby little paws on mine (thanks for the fast shipping Grant).
I have a modded Gladius in mine- uber bright. It's my favorite LED.
I have tried just about everything else out on the market and I was left disappointed with each one. I had some very good advice, bolstered by celebrity endorsement, to wait for the VLTOR offset.

The VLTOR was like a beam of sunshine glimmering off of a nude supermodel. The only possible "improvement" I could imagine is a true QR. And that is nit-picking. Looking forward to beating this mount around!

Can anyone check if it positions the light any closer or farther from the rail than the Viking Tactics mount? It looks about the same.

All the other mounts put the light waaayyy too far out for my preferences. Snugged into the 45deg spaces between rails would be great!

Adjustable would be even better...

Jeffy, you've got your mounted just the way I'm planning to (light at 10 O'clock with the light mount across the top rail). Do you have any more pics of the whole handguard area of your setup?

I'm especially interested in hand position room on the rail under the light (I have a 7" carbine rail and a stubby vert grip -- I wrap the bottom 3 fingers around the grip).

thanks!
