I'm looking to buy a 5.45 AK type rifle but I am somewhat on a budget. Today I ran into this: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=102096282
I contacted the seller and he said that it's a Polish kit built upon NDS receiver.
No builder info is available. I wonder if anyone can give me any info on this gun.
Is it a good buy or should I stay away? Thank you.

It looks like a bit of a novelty.

I like the concept, but without knowing the builder or being able to examine the workmanship firsthand, there's no way in hades I'd buy that.

Absolutely, and without knowing the details, my gut instinct is to stay away.

Thank guys. I think I'll stay away from this on and keep on looking. If you guys know of any good 5.45 rifles I would appreciate your help. Thanks

What's your maxed out price ceiling?

That's not a bad concept. Can't vouch for the quality.

That's an optic mount screwed on to the front trunnion? I wonder if it co-witnesses? I cannot tell for sure from the photo, but it kind of looks like it.

Interesting none the less.

I'm looking for something in a neighborhood of $600 and expect it to be a reliable shooter that I might to take a class or two with. I used to shoot with a Russian made AKS-74 and really liked that rifle. I guess I'm looking for something with a similar feel to it. I'm not looking for a sniper or precision rig, but do expect it to be able to hit a man sized target at 200yards.

Vector arms builds a lot of good fixed stock and underfolder 7.62x39 AK's, I think you have to request a chrome lined barrel though.

Henderson Defense has been getting some good marks too, they offer AKS-74 style side folders on 7.62x39 rifles.

The interarms tantals are in 5.45x39, but have a bit different stock than the Russian AKS-74's.

...My recommendation if you want a serious AK; either get a Vector 7.62x39 fixed stock AKM, or spend a little more and get a 7.62x39 from someone that has the polymer furniture and AKS-74 stock on it. The 1x14 threaded muzzle devices (AKM) are a lot more common than the AK-74 style.

The thing is that have a chance to get 10 ammo cans of 5.45x39 for a $1000.
that should last me for a while so I want to spend my Uncle Sam's return on a device that can utilize them.

Olympic Arms manufactures and sells a 16in. 1:10 twist Stainless Steel barreled AR15 upper configured in the .221R aka the 5.45x39mm and they are available and offered in either the Standard A2 configuration or in an A3 Flat-top.

good plan
I would keep my eyes open for a different 5.45mm AK, though.

Interesting.... I may have some shopping to do. With a nearly $300 price tag difference between 1k of 5.56 and 1k of 5.45, an extra upper for plinking cheap might be worth it.

That has actually changed, their new shipment was Russian, not Bulgarian. Just a heads-up.

Much better choice. Make sure that what they are advertising is what you get since the pic is of a 7.62x39mm.

Thank you all for helping out. However after careful consideration I decided not to get a 5.45 system and instead get another AR lower and more ammo. My initial thought was to actually save some money by buying a 5.45 gun, but looking at all the prices for descent AK-74 type guns and mags I've calculated that it'll take me in excess of 8k rounds with all the purchases just to break even . So I guess a Noveske lower with a UBR to supplement my new Sabre Defense 16" midi will be a much better choice. Thanks again.
