View Full Version : G&R Tactical's Lower Parts Kit!
For about the last five years, I have been collecting LPK's from just about every manufacturer trying to find ones that I liked. What I found is that some LPK's had a couple quality parts, but the rest were not. Other LPK's were 100% quality, but their price was way too high. Couple this with manufacturers not being able to deliver and I was at the end of my rope.
So what to do? I decided that I was going to track down where every quality part was made from. For those that do not know, most companies do not make their LPK's in house. It has been a long road, but I am finally done and believe that I have put together one of the very best LPK's available.
The two main components in a LPK's that need to be quality are the bolt catch and selector. For these two components, we went to LMT. One of the things we like about LMT parts is that you know where they come from as they stamp their name into them! We also worked out a deal with Magpul so we could use their Enhanced Trigger Guards in our kits. We feel these are so superior to the common trigger guard that we are not going to even offer our LPK's with the cheaper trigger guard.
Here are the options available and their price:
1. LPK (includes lower parts with no Magpul TG or hammer/trigger group) $48.98
2. LPK (includes lower parts & Magpul TG, NO hammer/trigger group) $60.68
3. LPK (includes lower parts, trigger/hammer group) $86.13
4. Full LPK (includes lower parts, trigger/hammer group and Magpul TG) $97.12

How positive is the selector? I.e. I hate mushy feeling selectors. I like them to click into position without much effort and have a very positive tactile feel.

It is an LMT so it is the best (positive click without having to force it).

Well done. I am continually frustrated by trying to find a quality LPK at a good price that is also in stock.
Cheers!

Amen to that. It got so bad this year, that I was thinking of stock DPMS LPK.
Right now, I am setup to deliver at least 50 of our LPK's. ;)

i'm planning on getting a Geissele trigger for my next lower, so all i would need is to get the #2 then right?.
2. LPK (includes lower parts & Magpul TG, NO hammer/trigger group) $60.68
these parts will work without modification with the Geissele?.

I intend to list every part in our LPK on our website. I have the prices done, just have to put them up.

Correct on #2. No mods needed.
One of the interesting things we found out over the years is that a lot of the selectors out there do not work very with with many 2 stage triggers. This is why we chose the LMT selectors as they are made correctly.
C4
The pivot and takedown pin looks different than lower kits I have seen. The finish is much darker. Are these LMT pins?
Very cool....may have to get one of these for My CD blem lower

'course, we obviously can just add it ourselves.
I think I'm going to send mine to Bill Springfield for the 4lb treatment.

I"m not interested in this LPK, and i'm not in the market for one. I do want to say though that i've dealt with G&R Tactical here very recently and am completely happy with there service. I would highly recommend them if someone to ask me where to make a purchase for AR related items. What is the point of my post? Well, i really don't have one other than this company is good to deal with and reliable so if you are on the fence about making the purchase maybe this post will sway your decision one way or another.

Just ordered OPTION #2, as I have the Geiselle SSA combat trigger coming in, which will have the rest of the stuff I need to have the complete LPK.
ETA: Yep, you are right about the Magpull trigger guard; I didn't know that it took care of the annoying gap, which is a bonus.
So Grant, you now know the secret. The secret about whether CMT, Armalite, or RRA actually have some parts equivalent to Colt or LMT. Care to share? :)
I got set #3 for my Noveske upper/CDD lower build. Since I have the full MIAD, I didn't need set #1.
What most intrigues me is how you are able to put together a LPK that equals Colt/LMT, sell them for at least 35% less than you sold the LMT set or 50% less than SAW sells the Colt set, and still make a profit. Congrats my friend, you've cornered a market. Now you're gonna play heck keeping up with demand. Not bad, not bad at all. ;)

You make a very valid point there, sir, as I was also wondering how Grant is able to obtain solid, reliable parts and sell them for less than parts from the heavy hitters, such as COLT and LMT. But, as long as the parts are as good as Grant says, I'll be a happy camper, because you just can't beat his price point for what we're getting.

On your LPK, is that a new style Stag Arms hammer. Did you figure out who actually makes the hammer? Reason I ask is its notchless like the DPMS hammer. I like the notchless ones better.
That is great idea Grant. Thanks for bringing quality LPK.

I would rather not rank our LPK's or say that ours is better than XYZ. I will let the consumer make that decision. What I have found over the years is that there are "fit" issues with things like selectors and bolt catches. For instance, the CMT selectors do not work well with most 2 stage triggers.
I was able to cut cost in two ways. The first was to buy items (like the LMT parts) in bulk. This cut the cost down. The second way is that I found out where a lot of companies buy their components from (as very few actually make anything in house).
C4
That is great idea Grant. Thanks for bringing quality LPK.

I echo the crowd in thanking you for pulling this combo together - wish it was a month earlier, however, the Stag LPK from you went into my first build perfectly, thank you!
Now I have to work on #2 and at least there will be no question on where to source the LPK from!

Yes, I had to widen the selector notch on a CMT selector for a Geissele DMR trigger install.
Nice to know the LMTs you're including are wider in that area.

solid idea grant, nothing more frustrating than getting one bad part in a lpk.
then you have to go to brownells to get ONE lousy part.
Done it twice already.

Do you offer the larger pins in your kits for Colt lowers?
Do you offer the larger pins in your kits for Colt lowers?
FWIW, it's not just the pins you need. You also need the parts they hold. Brownells carries all of them. You need 1, 3, 6 and two of 4. You could order all the FCG parts from Brownells, and either of these from Grant, but you'd still need the spring from either Grant or Brownells.
1. LPK (includes lower parts with no Magpul TG or hammer/trigger group) $48.98
2. LPK (includes lower parts & Magpul TG, NO hammer/trigger group) $60.68
The problem is the cost of the Colt parts
1 SP63157 160-305-104 Disconnect$14.69
2 SP63026 160-305-106 Disconnect Spring, Semi$3.78
3 SP63165 160-305-100 Hammer w/Hammer Pin Retainer$58.43
4 SP63158 160-305-101 Hammer & Trigger Pin, .170"$3.53
5 SP61697 160-305-103 Hammer Spring$4.38
6 SP63156 160-305-105 Trigger, .170"$32.89
7 SP61657 160-305-107 Trigger Spring$4.03
That's $125 for all of the above, and you only save <$8 if you skip the springs.
I'm still hoping that someone other than Colt will make a hammer and trigger for the larger pin sizes.
Thanks Grant; ordered two days ago and received today.

It matters not. I trust your experience and expertise in this area. And the price is definitely reasonable for a LPK that matches the quality of LMT or Colt.
I am most curious though, whose hammer is that?

C4
I was just caught off guard at the interest in these things.
Not me.
Just some observations:
1. Your integrity is impecible. That means if you tell folks your LPK is equivalent in quality to LMT or Colt, then folks will take you at your word.
2. You secured an LPK, which met the standard of LMT and Colt, and you were able to provide it at only a 15% increase over the next best LPK's such as CMT/RRA/Armalite.
3. The AR community is better informed about the quality of the parts going into their AR's than they ever have been before. As a result, they have become more discriminating. (Maybe not all, but most.)
4. The cost/quality ratio of your LPK is well within reason. I mean, when guys like Rob consider the price of a Colt/LMT LPK too high, then you know there is a good market for a quality LPK at what would be considered a reasonable price.
5. At your quality/price point, you've established a market niche. (It will be interesting to see how the rest of the market reacts. But until then, you've got it cornered.)
Not me.

I have a question in regards to the LMT SELECTOR, and BOLT CATCH.
(I think you had mentioned that you were using LMT for BOTH of these parts, correct?)
Anyhow, EVERY single FC selector that I have purchased from LMT, has had a very odd, funky looking STAMP, or RAISED bumps on the round end.
As you know, the LMT FC selectors have that nice raised/stamped "Status Line", which is stamped onto the round END of the FC Selector. This "status line" as I call it, is the line which points to the words "SAFE" or "FIRE" or "SEMI" (depending on how your lower is marked, IF it is even marked at all).
Anyhow, what I'm trying to explain is this: EVERY FC Selector which I have purchased from LMT, has had this very nice, and very desireable "status line" stamped onto the end of the selector. (it's actually NOT stamped, but rather, it's a RAISED line.) HOWEVER, there is ALSO a bunch of other weird miscellaneous stamped/raised tooling marks all around this "status line", and it's very unsightly on all of my LMT FC Selectors. EVERY LMT FC Selector I have is like this, and it's some type of tooling stamp, or die? or something that is used to make that "status line", and it's causing those funky tooling error marks all around the "status line".
How is everyone elses LMT FC Selector looking? Do they have these same tooling marks around the line, or are they nice and clean/smooth?
Just wondering if I got the only 6-8 selectors that have this problem, or are they ALL like this???
Thanks Grant for making this happen!

my selector looks like that but functions better than the DPMS i have in 2 other uppers so I let the looks slide. My RRA selector looks good and works well. Smooth clicking into place without a huge amount of effort, but not as nice as the LMT.
Razorhunter
09-11-08, 19:45
Yes, I would have to say function trumps cosmetics. I just wish LMT would do something about that dang stamp/tool they are using and remedy this issue.
A simple solution would be to 86 the tool they're using now, and just mill a little slot in the selector as most others with the status line do...

Well, I finally assembled my lower using the LPK from G&R Tactical and I must say that the trigger pull is very smoooooooooth. Most everything dropped in fine and without fuss.
The only issue I had was the trigger spring. The kit came with a lighter trigger spring (white in color), and once I had it installed, it did not have enough "oomph" to reset without me having to push on the trigger itself. So I had to uninstall the hammer and trigger groups (those KNS anti-walk pins I put in would not come out!!) and replace the trigger spring with a regular one. Fortunately, I have extras of just about every part. While I was at it, I went ahead and replaced the hammer springs just in case it too was a lighter one.
Other than that little detail, I am liking it!!
Hmm.. sounds just like what I'm looking for. I sent an email.
Thanks.

sold out again. ETA?
It is an LMT so it is the best (positive click without having to force it).
C4
Technical question then -
Every USGI M16/M4 I have ever used has a very positive 'click' to the selector. Every civilian AR I have used (not that many mind you) has a spongy sort of 'click.' This includes my own rifle using a CMT/Stag LPK. Would simply replacing the selector with an LMT fix this problem?

That could be it or it could be the spring not giving enough pressure to the detent.
The other possible issue is that the hole in the rear grip is cut too deep (again not allowing the spring to put enough pressure on the detent).

I've got some stripped lowers that don't want to be stripped!
I ordered two LMT LPK's a few days ago from Grant. I hope they are back ordered and I receive them down the road. We shall see.;)

A couple weeks ago I ordered a G&R LPK that was "Out of Stock" assuming they would back order it. Roxanne sent back an email saying she had canceled the order, refunded the funds, and that they didn't do pre-order/backorder. Your situation may be different since the LMT LPK was probably a special order but it would probably be wise to confirm the status with Roxanne. Both she and Grant are good at getting back to folks about such things - though sometimes the answer they give you is not what you want to hear!:D :(

G&R LPK and LMT LPK are one in the same. Haven't received an email stating that it has been canceled. Keep my fingers crossed though. Canceled LPK = that sucks category.

This is incorrect. We only use 2-4 items from LMT in our LPK's.

Well I just seen this at grtactical.com, hile logging in to maybe check the status of my order. Didn't see this the night I ordered the items and I just assumed their in cart was like most other sites and would disable if item would not back order. O well.
"***Please DO NOT order items stated (Out of Stock).***
Your credit card is charged for all items at time of ordering-not at shipment.
Purchasing an item that is stated as out of stock will delay the entire order.
Cancellation of said out of stock items will incur a 15% restocking fee."
I personally don't care if it delays that status of the rest of my order as long as my order is fulfilled down the road as long as they intend on selling more LMT LPK's.
This is incorrect. We only use 2-4 items from LMT in our LPK's.

O. There you are. Ok, any word on these kits? The way people have been talking I assumed these were all LMT. Who are the rest of the parts made by? Kinda like to know what I'll be putting in my rifle. Also, just curious on how my situation will be handled beings I just now discovered the above?

Which kits? G&R's LPK's or LMT LPK's?
I have no idea how your situation will be handled as I have no idea who you are (sorry).

By "my situation", I mean with the G&R kits that say out of stock. Are you going to back order and ship these kits out. Another customer of yours stated that he ordered a back order item via phone and was told it was canceled. I ordered via net. and only received a confirmation notice.
I wasn't aware that you sold LMT LPK as well, I do not see them on your site I thought the G&R and LMT LPK's were one in the same.

We will ship out our LPK's when they come in. If you ordered other items, they will not be shipped out until the rest of your order is ready.
We do not allow people to phone in orders for out of stock items (unless we have a specific date of the part(s) coming in).
The LMT LPK's are not on our website and are phone sales only. Our LPK's are NOT the same as LMT's.
C4
Thanks buddy. One last question and I will leave you alone. Do you have LMT LPK's that I can phone in an order today beings items phoned in have to be in stock. If not, could I be put on a list and be notified when these bad boys come in?
Thanks again,
Kevin

Sure. Just beware that the LMT LPK's are MUCH more expensive than ours.

Wish I had gotten in on the last batch. I refuse to crumble and buy a lesser LPK.
I could have purchased some as soon as Grant posted they were in stock but e-mailed a question to G&R and they sold out before I got a reply.....Grant quickly replied the next day so they did not last long.....what's that phrase" you snooze you loose".....
Mine just arrived today.
Thanks Grant!
I received a confirmation email of my order but nothing else...

Mine came today. Good stuff. Bagged it up for future use.
Does the website still let you order these? Does it just backorder it if the site says 'out of stock'?
When will the L.P.K. be back in stock?
When will the L.P.K. be back in stock?
1-2 weeks I hope.

I tried tracking on the website with the order # I received in my email, however on the drop down menu the only options are: package, shipment, invoice. I get "no results" with the search.
some of you guys need to quit stocking up on 10 at a time and let the rest of us finish our builds:mad:
I had the same experience - plus the LPK I ordered was in stock when I placed the order but now my account "Last Order" shows it as "Out of Stock". Does that apply to my order or just a generic comment reflecting the current status of the item on the website? No response to my email inquiry regarding the order so I guess it's just wait and see.:(
We are trying to get our LPK's out the door as fast as possible, but we have to build each kit (per order). So this is taking a lot of time.
So if you do not get your order, please be patient.

Are the hammers in these kits the kind I'd want to use with a 9mm upper with a ramped bolt?
Are the hammers in these kits the kind I'd want to use with a 9mm upper with a ramped bolt?
No. You generally want to use a dedicated 9mm hammer.

Thanks for the update, Grant. If you're putting each kit together prior to shipping, it's understandable that it will take awhile. My concern is that the kits I ordered within a few minutes of your replying (to my inquiry) that they were in stock and on the website show "Out of Stock" on my order confirmation, and my email Tues inquiring about this anomaly has been unanswered. So I don't know if I will be receiving two of your current stock or not.
Shipping Notice Received 11/25!!!!!
Also, we exchanged PMs about an N4 custom build a couple of weeks ago. Are these still available or are you BO on the Noveske products? PM me if you need a break from putting little itty, bitty springs into kits.;)
LPK received and installed yesterday:D first time ever installing one and took me less than an hour, very easy for you guys out there that are thinking about building vs buying. I absolutely love the positive click going from safe to semi compared to every other civilian ar I've handled, it's not muddy at all. I only shot the detent for the front takedown across the room once or twice, but that and the screw for the miad grip were a b!tch.

The trick to making the miad screw go in easier is to install the screw once before installing it in the grip (to remove some of the loctite).

Thanks guys for being so paitient. We are just swamped with walk in customers, phone sales and internet sales. We have DOUBLED our normal gross sales amounts and I am simply overwhelmed.

BTW, Grant your approach of stuffing purchases in bags and then sitting them infront of the buyer and staring at the bag is a good practice. It made me realize I needed to stfu and roll on, of course I still took 20 minutes more to get out of the shop, but that is because I am largely immue to hints. :p

LOL, not at all. I was just making sure that you did not leave the shop with missing items (which has happened in the past). ;)

I thought about that after the fact, I did remove as much loctite as I could with a wire brush from the miad screw and the kns screws.

I believe Grant is still building them to order and shipping them out as fast as he can. He also said he thinks he should have some more in in a few weeks.
I would like to get on the list for a full LPK.
Is there anyway to pre order or pre pay so I get one? I don't want to miss the next boat.
I would like a stripped lower & full upper as well. Stag Arms is telling me 20 - 25 weeks!
I'm hoping dealers would get them sooner but so far no one wants to take my money for a pre order. They all say to get on the waiting email list, but there is a chance they could sell out fast and if I missed out that would suck especially if you've waited months.
I guess it is my own fault for not getting one before the election.....but I want my first AR15. :(
I just ordered some Brownells 30rd mags from GRTactical (surprised to see them in stock). Guess I should look for and order a butt stock kit as well. I can hold the mag and stock and pretend for the next 6 months. :D
I too would like to pre-order and pre-pay for a LPK if at all possible. I just don't want to take the chance of missing them when they are available once again.
Guys, send us an e-mail that you want our LPK's and I will put you on our back order list.
