View Full Version : Picked up my 553 today.
I haven't had time yet to pull the trigger under it but I can say that so far I love it. It's pretty much everything I've ever wanted in the sight from owning (still own) previous ones.
The CR 123's really help me out a lot since the gun's Surefire lights run on the same system. I like the height that it now sits at which reduces the front sight to the lower portion of the window.
Changing batteries is much more convenient with the turned up cover latch. And the lanyard on the battery housing is a welcome addition.
While I am a LaRue fan like most in the world today I have to say that the dual ARMS levers lock up tight and solid on my receivers of three diff. brand names. Colt, LMT, and Bushmaster. I anticipate no problems with the base and am more than satisfied.
Great package in this sight. Glad they made it.
I have had mine for about two or three weeks and really enjoy it. I have shoot about 200 rounds with it on there. The best thing that I liked about it is the built in riser to it has the ARMS mounts. Hope you enjoy it
Got to the range with it today. Function was flawless and it was practically zeroed when I placed it on the carbine.
And I'm much happier with the QD mount vs the old style system.
The reticle does seem sharper for some reason as opposed to my REV F 552. Though I suspect it's the same basic electronics.
I can't wait for the magnifier and PVS 14 base.
Could you post a picture with your fingertip in the ARMS lever area, just before you pull to release it? It looks tight to me...
Thanks,
Joe
It is very tight i own one as well i have been T&E, it fits very tight.
I have huge paws to be fair... ask Harv and Pat.
I need to use a flat tool to get mine to release
so far so good only 300 rounds down range so far but it look good has held zreo so far
really like the wired battery compartment
matts up nice with my 3x until i get an Eotech version
i would much rather see the larue mount for sure i will have a detailed write up in few weeks right about the end of Nov. or first of dec
as its gettign cold here in michigan and i have some test planned.......
Damnit. Just when I decided to get an Aimpoint for my 6920 you guys come around with these glowing reports of the 553
While I would prefer a LaRue mount the ARMS levers won't be a deal breaker.
Can you guys get me some pictures of your 553 installed? I want to see how far foward on the receiver I can mount it. Thx.
No pics yet but on my RRA guns it has fitted real well on 2 of the 3 one had a bit of slop...... and its mounted almost to the hump on those guns
on my troy guns it bridges very well no issues there at all but then again steve makes good stuff
so far it has held well i have left mine outside for 2 nights now with temps in the 30s went outside to get it and fired right up (stay out my yard Andy):D
so far this one has held.
i have been really critical of them in the past thats for sure and no secret there as i had a bad run with some earlier models NON revsion F.
i have been a die hard aimpoint guy as well since then too.this model might just might have me back again.........time will tell.........
Here is a pic but I dont know if it helps! Sorry it looks so crappy! I just got my 553 and Im ready to take it out and run some rounds down range with it! Only complaint I have is that I cant mount my LaRue behind it! So as you can tell I mounted my 553 on the Surefire rail! Anyone else do this! Will it work? Input needed! Thanks!
Grunt Out!

Great reviews. Is there any chance that LaRue will be able to retrofit the mount as opposed to Arms stuff? Mark are you listening?
