I am converting an Arsenal 107UR to an SBR. I have read all of the great info here and am using Title II to fill out my Form 1 and have question or two.

When it asks about barrel length and overall length, that is after conversion correct?

When is asks about OAL is that with the sidefolder fully extended or closed?

Also I am getting conflicting info on engraving since I am converting. Some say I have to and some say I don't since it's a ready made Arsenal.

I am not going the trust route if that helps.

Thanks for any advce,

John

Correct!

I've heard both. But it really doesn't matter. You might err on the side of the shortest measurement. (they aren't going to bounce your application based on what you put there)

We'll be debating this til the end of time.

Thank You!! I've only done a supressor before and the dealer printed out all of the forms. Want to make sure it is correct.

I'm not sure how other people who choose to engrave are doing it. There's a line (4h) on the form where you put "additional markings".

I'm guessing that some people put their name or their trust name (if they go that route) on that line?

That's what I assumed that line was used for, but someone here replied that he thought that was NOT the case.

If it were a Arsenal-made SBR, that would be transferred to you on a Form 4, then you would not need to mark your name. Because you are the one making the SBR, your name & city/state needs to be engraved on the firearm.

Arsenal's information goes in 4.a. You leave 4h. blank.

It is a 107UR that I am going to SBR after I do the form 1 and get it returned approved.

I found this which seems to indicate no additional markings are required

As Demigod said, this will probably never be settled.

The regulations (27 CFR 479.102, specifically) require you to mark you gun.

You can find letters, ATF field agents, brothers-in-law, the guys down at the corner store, that say otherwise.

Do what you think is best.

Unless it was SBR'd by Arsenal, you will still have to engrave it. I recommend that you not take anyone's word on this and that you go research this on the ATF's website. It should be in the section that addresses manufacturing of NFA items (not sure what the actual title is). Personally, I would err on the side of caution and have it engraved.

I had both my SBRs engraved with my Trust name, the city, and state as required by the regulations that govern this (see above). But when I bought my Suppressor, since it was not manufactured by me, I did not have to have it engraved.

In other words, if I were to sell you either of my SBRs, then you would not need to have it engraved because you are not the manufacturer (as I was) but only the purchaser.

I don't understand why people are willing to take the risk of getting prosecuted for something as simple as having their MANUFACTURED NFA ITEMS engraved. It was the simplest and fastest part of the whole process (thank you Orion Arms!!).

A little eye candy (just got the approved Form 1 Monday 11/10/2008):

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w169/CarlosDJackal/SBR-2.jpg

As requested:

- Upper assembly is: LWRC M6A1 with 10.5-inch barrel
- Larue Tactical Forward Universal Grip (FUG)
- Surefire 6P with tape switch on Larue offset mount
- Lower receiver: TKS Engineering billeted lower (purchased from Brownells)
- MagPul UBR (originally Flat Dark Earth in color)
- Magpul MIAD grip (also originally FDE in color)
- Larue Tactical BUIS
- Aimpoint T-1 on high Larue Tactical mount
- G&R Tactical Lower Parts kit
- KNS anti-walk trigger and hammer pin set
- CMMG ambidextrous Safety lever
- Padded Blue Force VCAS sling
- Engraving by Orion Arms

Here it is after I painted it. I used Krylon Utra-flat paints in OD and Sand. The brown splotches came from some left over "Bowflauge" removable paint I had laying around.

There is no need to put it in Line 4h. By filing the application, you're assumed to have complied with the Federal Regulations and engraved the required maker information, city, and state, onto the firearm. The maker information is filled in at the top of the form.

Line 4h is where you note the "Molon Labe, bitch!" you had engraved on the front of the magwell.

As for any "debate" on the subject, there really isn't any. The regs are quite clear. No one who claims it isn't required has ever backed up that claim with a copy-n-paste post of the regulations explaining how they don't apply to them.

The maker MUST engrave their name, city and state on the rifle as well as a serial number.

Since anything you have purchased from a company will already have a serial number, all you need to engrave as a maker of the SBR is your name, city and state. This is something you MUST do to be sure you are compliant.

Sure it's kinda cool to say you are smart enough to know you don't have to engrave your info, but it's much "cooler" to keep your ass out of hot water and out from behind cold bars.

Erring on the side of caution is always the best way to go, especially since it only costs the price of 4 or 5 mags' worth of ammo to have it done.

I like the KNS anti-walk pins, it gives me a nice shelf to rest my trigger finger onto when I'm not shooting. :D

KNS should site that as a benefit. "Eliminate finger fatigue!" :p
