I just picked up a Sig GSR. I am not normally a Sig guy, but after I handled it a bit the thing started talking to me. I have a few 1911s but the lines on this are just different.

I am looking to get a ambi-safety and mag well on in and I was wondering about interchangability with its 1911 counderpart?

Anyone have a clue about this.

Thanks,
G

SIG only makes the frame and slide. Everything else on it is made by other 1911 companies like Wilson Combat, Ed Brown and Cylinder and Slide. SIG just assembles the pistol. If you get an ambi safety I would suggest a non MIM on from Wilson or a Kings.

The earlier ones had slides and frames made by Caspian.

The Dan Wesson 1911s are pretty nice too.

The only non-spec part is the external extractor.

And the Swartz firing pin safety ;)
