I just bought a 511. Have not even had time to pull it out of the box. Here are my questions:
1. Will it co-witness being mounted directly to the reciever or will some sort of riser be in order?
2. Considering I have no use for NV capability and dont care much about battery life or submersible ratings are there really any advantages to the 512,551, or 552? I know the better advantages of the 553 but I only spent 325 instead of 5??$
Thanks MD

i have a 511 and it does co-witness when mounted directly to the upper reciever....as far as the differences of the other models, other then what you already stated I don't know. Like you I have no use for NV or being able to scuba-dive with my weapon so the money saved went towards ammo. ;)

It will cowitness with your BUIS. The jet fighter reticle will be in the very center of your EOTech window. When you look over your BUIS through the window, the reticle will be in the top 1/3 of your window.

If you mount a 1/4" riser (eg. LaRue LT-110), the cowitness will sit in the bottom 1/3 of your window but when you look over your BUIS, the reticle will be in the dead center of your window.

It all depends on which cowitness you prefer. Personally, I find the latter to be too my liking because I see more of the environment with the reticle in the center of my window thereby allowing me to acquire targets quicker. But that's just my preference.

The biggest differences for most of us are:

1) The type of battery that the Eotechs utilize. The AA battery type (such as the 512) is available averywhere and any time.

2) The N battery model (ie: 511) takes up less "real estate" on your rail system. The battery is shorter, so the sight unit itself is also not as long as the AA model.

Night Vision compatability and other features... for those that need it- they'll know.

If you do look Over the rear sight, will POI remain the same?

I knew sonmeone out there would know.
I have been looking thry the rear arperture and during a 3 gun competition, that really slows me down.
I assume sight in would also be same as irons.
