I am planning on purchasing my first sail boat next summer for some coastal and Carribean cruising. I of course, will have a gun onboard, but was just curious about what I would need to do. I know the basics, such as having them taped shut to clear customs, but would like to hear some first hand experiences. I would mainly be traveling to Panama and other friendly Latin American countries.

When I did boardings, it seemed like everyone had a gun on board (mostly shotguns). If they were an honest looking group, we really didn’t care. I’m not concerned about U.S. authorities at all, but mainly foreign ports and Coast Guards. Please share your armed sailing experiences. Or any other sailing stories while you’re at it.
