Sorry for the "look at me post" but I figured some would find it interesting.
After seeing "Public Enemies" I finally broke down and nabbed a Colt 1903.

Interesting piece, this is a 1922 date .32 rimless (ACP). It has a grip safety like a 1911 but the slide does NOT lock open. Heel mag release just like most Euro guns. Despite being touted as a "hammerless" it is actually an internal hammer and more like a shrouded hammer. Single action of course with a frame mounted safety.
Anyway, movies tend to make me buy guns so now I have an interesting piece of history.
Now this is the unique type of posting I remember from my AR15 (aka TOS here) days. That is a special gun indeed.

The Colt carried by Patton was a .45 LC SAA. I have never heard of him shooting down any plane with one. In the movie Patton he did shoot "at" a bomber.

Its really nothing more than a paperweight for my desk in my study.:D Its to old for me to trust enough shoot... It is kinda cool though.
Have you seen the 1903's that C&S are building these days in .45?

Very nice weapon SteyrAUG. A classic indeed. :cool: I read in some G&A article about someone making a replica of these, maybe the same company (C&S), as a custom .45 pocket gun. It was one beautiful and unique gun, but it was ungodly expensive.

I guess I just don't understand the whole negative connotation to the so called "look at me" threads. I have an account at TOS but I don't recall if I've ever even posted over there. Maybe a couple of times, but my point is... if someone has a gun (or whatever else) that others might appreciate for it's beauty and history, then why is it always called a self serving post? I have a 1908, it's old and beat to hell and back, but it's beauty is still noteworthy. When people post pics or vids of guns, I simply take it for what it's worth... to me. If it is something I'm interested in, or can learn from... I thank them for their post, not tell them they're just looking for attention. Some people are looking for attention, and that's fine, but it doesn't detract from my appreciation of the weapon they've posted.
Beautiful specimen. Mine is far more worn and actually has a bulged barrel. I'd like to find a replacement barrel for it, but that is on hold for other projects. Best part about the one I have is, I got it for free. Given to me by an old employee who knew I'd appreciate it, and take care of it.
Forums are a picky animal. I hope I've not given people the wrong impression by posting pictures or videos of stuff I appreciate. I just want others to have the chance to appreciate them too, even if by proxy.

I have wanted one of the .380s for a while. If I could find one in decent shape, but not so nice I wouldn't want to customize it, I think it would make a neat project for a BUG.

Well, Mine isn't a Colt but rather similiar...I have a Browning 1910 in .380 ACP that belonged to my Father.
Dad ran a Swap Meet in a small town outside of Springfield a number of years ago. While on a buying trip at a local auction he placed a bid on a box sight unseen for $2.
When he got it home and looked through it amoungst other items he found an old towel in the bottom of the box that was saturated in axle grease. He unfolded it and found this 1910 Browning pistol in pieces.
It was missing the grips, the magazine was crushed like it had been ran over and all the pins were missing. He took it to the State Highway Patrol and they ran the numbers on it..it came back clean. The numbers on the frame, barrel and slide match.
After nearly a year of hunting I found all the missing parts and rebuilt the pistol for Dad.
Well Dad has since passed on and the pistol has came to be in my possesion now,it's a lot of fun to shoot for such a small framed pistol.

I'm happy to see that I am not the only one with a Fetish for these little Pocket Pistols.
I'd pick a more modern gun for a BUG.
Among other issues, these guns are not drop safe.
Nice to own, but one should really rely on better guns if choosing one on purpose for SD.

Mine is one of the older guns that has the 1911 style barrel bushing.

I hate to tell stories of how I take guns from people, but it's relevant here. I've seen a lot of these old Colts on the streets in the ghetto in the hands of gangbangers. Last week we chased one down who had the Colt .32 semiautomatic with grip safety (wrapped in electrical tape) and one a couple weeks ago with a Colt .380 (a Mustang?). They were beautiful guns I would consider buying for myself to carry off-duty. It's sad to see them in the wrong hands knowing they were probably stolen from an older person/relative.

Not to be too persnickety, but Dillinger actually carried a Colt 1908 Model M the night he was killed, chambered in .380. Of course, it was an upscaled 1903...
IIRC (and I'm too lazy to look it up right now), around half a million 1903's were produced during it's run, but only 125K or so 1908's. I could be wrong, and I'm certain I'm off by a few tens of thousands.
I inherited my Granddad's Colt 1903, and the finish on it looks brand new- it's absolutely gorgeous. I don't know that it had ever been fired, it was so clean- so I took it to the range and put some rounds through it. Miserable little sights that are dead-on accurate, a nice trigger, and a real hoot to shoot. A .32 may not be "enough" cartridge in many people's eyes, but it's become an emotional favorite of mine.
An ugly, "shooter grade" 1903 can be had for somewhere around $300, if you find one. I just paid $325 for one I'm going to have lettered and (barring any surprises from the letter) refinished and worked over by Novak. There's a small but dedicated fan base for this little gun that was supposedly favored by Al Capone, and taped to the inside of Bonnie Parker's leg as she broke Clyde Barrow out of jail. It may be heavy and large by today's pocket gun standards, but it is slim, beautiful, and a great little piece in it's own right.
The 1908 sitting next to it in my local shop was going for $575, and wasn't in horrible condition.

Yep, 1928 date Krieghoff.
Also have two J.P. Sauer Drillings, a 1931 date and a 1939 NSFK marked one.
