HK45 LEM...is there such a beast?

After an unfortunate incident at the local fun store which involved myself and an HK45 (my wife told me not to touch it, and I did, and now I want one) I have been conducting as much research as possible on the HK45 and P30s as I can.

I have seen mention of an LEM HK45 on this board and a couple others. Does such a beast exist? Would it be possible to convert a traditional HK45 to a V4 LEM using the guide posted on HKPRO?

Any help (an pictures of HK45s) would be appreciated. :D

I am not sure that a LEM variant is set up for purchase from HK yet. They were threatening to makeit an option bu I have yet to see it. The LEM and light LEM kits were available from HK direct. The conversion process is doable by a mere mortal non HK armorer. Just read the instructions posted on HKPro a couple of times to make sure you're good to go. Even though I tend to be relativley useful with my hands there was a second there when I thought I made myself a really expensive paperweight. If you're not sure about it HK will do the conversion for a nominal fee. Can't remember what that was or how long they quoted.

OK perusing the HK-USA forums I see a posting that the HK45 LEM conversion kits are offered by HK USA. They are part# 241203, and cost $87 + Shipping. Very interesting indeed!

Does anyone have any experience with this set-up?

How does one actually order this part? Just call HK?

Before you do it or go through the expense of buying a LEM kit, I'd suggest you try an HK equipped with a LEM setup. I tried a friend's and I did not like it all. I prefer to use the HK45 as a cocked and locked SA pistol since the DA trigger pull is terrible.

I second that. I keep my HK45's as a cocked and locked pistol. Except when in the safe for long term storage.

Well I carry a 1911 cocked and locked frequently, so that doesn't bother me, but I kind of like the LEM concept...*shrug*...mainly I was just exploring options.

Is not the LEM conversion for the HK45 different than that of the factory P30 LEM? or are there two different LEM setups? I've heard folks converting the HK45 had a much better LEM pull than the factory LEM P30.

I'm also very tempted by these guns but keep putting off the purchase.

There's 4 different versions of the LEM trigger. The stock P30 uses the heaviest version, while the HK45 conversion kit uses the lightest version and works very well with the stock HK45 guts I have read.

Don't have it yet Todd, just trying to research as much as possible.

While that sounds nice for the range, I am thinking going with the V4 would probably be a better choice for me if I were to carry the pistol. Still though it's good to hear a tangible explanation of what the trigger pull would be from the LEM kit.

You'd need a heavier trigger return spring to get the V4 feel. I don't know if such a thing exits for the HK45.

I see. I figured the spring would be the same as the P30, which I understand was not a safe assumption.

Still though I don't think I would be that uncomfortable carrying the pistol with the "lightest" LEM trigger. I don't imagine it's that much different than an M&P trigger when it comes to ADs, plus I can keep my thumb on the hammer while holstering.

I ended up getting the light LEM kit which gave me a trigger pull identical to the SA pill before the conversion. Measured on my scale it registered just over 4#. Reset was maybe a little longer than the standard trigger. For me the LEM was the best combo. I have small hands so manipulating the safety, while doable was still a bear. Reaching the DA trigger was a definite no-no. The LEM offered me a safe way to carry the gun and still be quick and accurate on target. It will take a little time to master, but nothing like learning to master a Glock trigger.

You can order a LEM equipped HK 45 from HK. I have never seen a stock one anywhere except for older models like the P2000. Or you can buy a standard model and have HK do it for I think $250. Or you can do it yourself as others have mentioned. As far as thumb safeties go I think it is quite good on the HK 45 but I much prefer the LEM trigger and the thumb safety gets in the way of my high grip and big hands. Despite many years of being issued and owning 1911's I have never felt the need for a manual safety on other pistols. A lot of people have said the light LEM is very light. I have not tried one myself.

I have an HK45 with Light LEM. Essentially an LEM with match grade parts. I guess they refer to it as the Combat Competion trigger.

I have a .40S&W USPc and and HK Expert in .40S&W configured the same way, and my 9mm Expert is in HK's hands undergoing the same treatment as I type...

Phenominal trigger actions with a very short reset (compared to V2 LEM in particular) on spectacular platforms, IMHO...

I truly can't wait for HK to release these parts for my P30 LEM...
