View Full Version : Is it true a CZ-75 has no decocker?

Is it true you have to "ride" the hammer down on a live round or leave it cocked?

Yes, on the original CZ-75 or the B models, you need to either engage the safety and carry Condition 1 or lower the hammer manually, riding it down, and carry Condition 2.. The BD models do have a decocker but then you can't carry Condition 1.

Here's an old Bauska import from '86....

Like Tim said, several of the models now come in "BD" format, and some (the P-01, and PCR, notably) Only come with a decocker.

Personally, I own a lot of CZ's, and not a single one is a decocker. There's a reason (or few) for that......

I picked up a SP-01 and VZ-58 on the same day in February (I was in a Czech mood that day). Sadly I got the one with the decocker. Such a great shooting gun but I kick myself for not getting the manual safety model.

Templar,

Very nice collection. I have a CZ-75B as well and hope to get a VZ-58 one day. How do you like that rifle?

I take it that the original CZ75 and CZ75B is to be carried like a 1911? They are double action though, so you could still fire from say a condition 2 setup, round in chamber hammer down safety off?

I know some older GIs talk about carrying their 1911s in condition 2 but they would have to thumb the hammer to fire.

I've got a 75D compact, aka PCR and yes it comes with a decocker/no safety. I carry with the hammer down. No safety to mess with and a smooth double/single action. It also has a loaded chamber indicator as well, and snag free sights. So far it has been rediculously accurate for a factory handgun, and a joy to shoot.

Those are the two basic 75's that come equipped with decockers.

I have only held the CZ75B, my problem is on 1911s I like to ride my thumb over the safety, which seems to work OK with the CZ75B. I don't know if I could get my thumb over the decocker but I would be afraid I could manage it and that simple act could take me out of a fight. I don't know what happens when you have the decocker pressed and pull the trigger  My guess would be nothing happens, no bang etc...

Then you need to stay away from the decockers. I also come from a 1911 background, and ride my thumbs pretty high. This is a no-go with the CZ's. Your right hand thumb will be almost directly in line with the backwards-rotating decocker, causing you all sorts of fun problems.

I have seen some guys grind on the decocker making it nearly flush, who claim it certainly helps. I haven't shot one so equipped, but I still have other issues with the CZ decocker setup (specifically, the added complexities associated with it during takedown, and the added level of difficulty to get a good trigger on one).

My thumb passes across the side base of the decocking lever on the CZ, but below the actual lever part of it, and have never experienced any malfunction related to that out over 1000 rounds. If you were to ride your thumb on top of the decocker you would also be dragging the slide with your thumb. The decocker and safety levers on CZ"s ride a bit higher than 1911's so your thumb is naturally out of the way of those levers while shooting.

I say give a CZ a chance, if ya don't like it, sell it.;)

Right now I'm using a Don Hume H715 M NO. 26PX

It's a basic iwb leather holster with metal belt clip that was designed for a sig of some sort, The CZ fit it fairly well out of the box, but i soaked the holster in hot water and remolded it to my CZ to snug up the fit alot better.

I want to get a better IWB holster that uses belt loops, but before I spend the money on one, i need to do some more research.

I have an SP-01 Tactical(decocker model)
Its a great shooter and very accurate.
But like has been mentioned above, the decocker models arent the most fun to shoot especially in class, when doing repeated 2-3 shot drills then having to decock and reholster. The CZs in double action have a long pull. I did shoot the SP-01 last year in LAV Pistol 1 on TD2. I did well with the gun, just that first shot took longer to get off and sometimes it wont exactly where it should have been. And my thumb was sore as hell from decocking a 100 times or so throughout the day with a new gun. It is alot easier to decock now tho.
