View Full Version : Two Things I Never Thought I’d See

I posted this at Soldier Systems daily a couple of weeks ago after a visit to the Marine Corps Exchange where they had one of the "Pistol Bayonets" on the rack. So I wrote an article of goofy gun accessories. One of the Mods here thought you might find it enertaining. The odd thing is that a major defense blog picked it up as a serious piece. If you guys have any more gems like these, post them up.

http://soldiersystems.net/2009/07/21/two-things-i-never-thought-id-see/

Although they share a name, one is a modern take on an old idea and the other is well, just plain different.

http://soldiersystems.net/blog1/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/pistol_bayonet.jpg

The Pistol Bayonet from LaserLyte in conjunction with Ka-Bar knives evokes memories of childhood visits to museums featuring such oddities as muzzle loading pistols festooned with saber-style blades under the barrel. Pistols have been sporting rails for quite awhile now so I guess it was really only a matter of time before someone attached a blade. The 2.75 inch blade fits on medium to large pistols with rails and slides on and off with the press of two buttons. It features a Black Teflon coated carbon steel blade and comes with polymer sheath.

Delta Assault Technologies, Inc. has introduced the Delta Bayonnette. Attach to the business end of a long arm, this non-lethal device stuns with 500,000 volts of electricity (you have to enunciate each syllable of that word when you are talking 500,000 volts). Consisting of a foregrip that attaches to any Picatinny/Weaver style rail and a DAT stun muzzle brake, it is designed to fit primarily M4-style weapons. Yes, those probes sticking off the end of the muzzle brake are the shock barbs. Please note: The product may not be legal in all localities.

Here's another one for the "WTF?" file:

Some of you may remember the Darth Vaderesque helmet worn by troops in Saddam’s “elite” Fedayeen forces. Apparently manufactured from fiber glass it saw only limited issue. Perhaps the idea behind the helmet was to make the enemy pause to say, “WTF?” giving the wearer enough time to run away. A badge with the words “The Lord, The Homeland, The Leader” was affixed to the side of the helmet. They bring top dollar in the collector’s market.

Regarding the Dark Helmet, it's amazing the things that other nations' armed forces do that THEY think is intimidating, but when we see it, it comes across as buffoonish.

Funny thing about this is I saw this advertised in a gun magazine in the "New Products" section. Why anyone thought this should be not laughed out of the joint is beyond me.

about the glock forend for M4s...

I actually saw something like that that sort of made sense. It was a mount for an ingram machine pistol that was supposed to attach to stand-alone grenade launchers, like that six barreled thing.

I was also thinking of another silly variant that attached a shotgun to the underside of a six shot grenade launcher. I saw it in that new Army of Two video game.

In regards to the helmet, there was actually a helmet fielded for our turret gunners that looked really odd and "menacing". IIRC, it was a large green helmet with a brown visor or some such.

I want to say it wasn't mass fielded but I'm not savvy on the progression of the types of uniforms, and field gear our military uses. They brought the helmet to us at the same time they made our gunners wear what we called "gorilla suits". It was a package consisting of kevlar sleeves that the helmet was to complete. Nobody wore the special helmet, opting to just wear the standard issue one.

Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Actually there was a guy that was making machine pistols with sights like this. the frame had a strip of metal that rose over the left side of the slide to attach a large rubber grip for your left hand. The right hand was horizontal, left vertical holding rubber fingergrooved grip. Adjustable sights with solid rib on right side of slide. A full auto Browning High Power could place all it's rounds (20 round magazine) on an eight inch plate at 25 yards. recoil was absorbed through arms into shoulders and gun didn't rise because axis was centered between hands and all then energy went straight back. He also had a smalle cheap 25 auto that was converted with a custom long singlestack magazine.

The only reasoning I can think behind this is so you can make fast follow-up shots with your long gun if your shots fired with the pistol fail to be effective . . . umm . . . never mind.

That logic (as weak as it is) only works if the long gun is chambered in something more potent than your pistol. :suicide:

Here's another one for the "WTF?" file:

Some of you may remember the Darth Vaderesque helmet worn by troops in Saddam’s “elite” Fedayeen forces. Apparently manufactured from fiber glass it saw only limited issue. Perhaps the idea behind the helmet was to make the enemy pause to say, “WTF?” giving the wearer enough time to run away. A badge with the words “The Lord, The Homeland, The Leader” was affixed to the side of the helmet. They bring top dollar in the collector’s market.

The REALLY sad thing is.....I have one of the pistol bayonets...there I said it now I feel better.....actually I went into a friend of mines shop and he had one, guess it wouldn't sell because he gave it to me.........couldnt tell him I didn't want it..now it resides somewhere in the bottom of a box somewhere with all my other parts....one day I will probably come across it and begin to laugh hysterically all over again.

Sell it on ebay. I'm sure someone would pay good money for it.

Two lasers? Are those barrels canted to impact in different spots? Maybe they can be aimed independently! Take out two guys at once, on opposite sides of the room!
