I'm just posting this out of curiousity. I'm fairly certain I'm not unique in having bought or at least wanted a gun not because of any practical need for it but just because I just plain wanted it - mainly because I thought it was cool or would be fun to have.

My first such purchase was my Walther P99 AS - and it will likely soon be joined by a Jericho 941 9mm full-size.

So, what guns have you guys bought just for the heck of it?

I'm most interested in the really oddball stuff - like, for example, I want an Armscor 1911 as well. Yes, there are decent 1911s from Springfield Armory and other manufacturers for almost as cheap but I grew up in the Philippines so naturally, I'd like a Philippine-made 1911 - as long as it doesn't blow up in my hands :D.

I thought this would be a fun question to ask all you experienced guys on this board as a break from the more serious stuff.

In 1985 I just had to have a HK P7M8. I paid $459 for one NIB w/ 5 magazines. Still have it.

M1917. They are really ugly but I like the history behind them... I see Springfields more often but they have never done anything for me.

Colt Python. I bought one new in 1987 or so and then traded it. It's the one gun I truly regret trading.

A bunch.

Colt Python 2 1/2" back in 1988, it was my first revolver.

Detonics Combat Master, 'cause that was a super cool pistol to have in the 80's.

HK P9S, both in 9mm and .45 ACP

HK P7M8

SIG P210

CZ 75, pre-B model

S&W Model 28 Highway Patrolman

Colt Commercial Government Model in .38 Super, mfg. in 1947

The first one was a Beretta 92FS Stainless. I just had to have that gun.

Plus one for the Walther P99 9mm AS! I assume we all watched Casino Royale too many times?

I like the story behind my P99. I decided I wanted one (before Quantum of Solace came out) and went on a search for one. But no one locally had one. The only guy that did, had one for $850!!!! No thanks! It seemed that it was just not going to happen. So after a month or two of searching high and low I gave up. Two weeks later I find a gently used one for $550, Picked it up!

It's a great little pistol and very easy to shoot.

ALL OF THEM...and I have miles to go before I sleep.

:D

The "practical" aside my most recent "must haves" were a Colt 1903 and a Mitchell Arms Stainless Luger.

The P7 was one of those must haves for me as well. Picked up one of the trade ins from CDNN last year but sadly I didn't fall in love with it. I sold it shortly after.....now I kinda want one again :D

Back in '86 I just had to have a brand new $350.00 Franchi SPAS-12 on the shop rack. I bought it, I shot maybe 50 rounds through it then threw it in storage when I went overseas for a few years. Ten or twelve years later I dug it out and sold it for $1,000.00 more dollars than I paid for it and walked out of the store with a new HK and my first AR.

The Luger P08 was the gun I just had to have despite there being better 9mm self defense pistols on the market. It's a really neat pistol that feels great in the hand but it's high maintenance.

I ended up selling it and making a few hundred profit on it, but I'd love to get another one when funds permit.

I always wanted an AR-10 so about three years ago I bought an ArmaLite AR-10A2 (The Infantry Model) rifle, complete with OD Green furniture. I liked it so much I bought it's little brother, an ArmaLite M-15A2 (The Service Model) with matching OD Green furniture. They are both just plain fun to shoot.:D

As for handguns, I just "had to have" an H&K Mark 23 pistol. If it's good enough for a USSOCOM arms room, it's good enough for me!

For handguns, a springfield PRO 1911.
Still waiting for the custom shop ATM.

That and a few more AR's some AK's... some bolt actions in african calibers... etc.

My have to haves that i can think of right now are..

1. A Sig 552 SBR
2. FN SCAR
3. LMT CQB 16
4. Knights Armament SR15 E3

I will not sleep till i own each and every one of these... along with an M4 2000 :D

Early on, they were all must haves.

S&W 422 Target - my first handgun, still have it.

S&W 4506, heavily Novak'd - the first gun that I spent more than $500 for and I saved three months to buy it. Sold it for a 70 series Gold Cup and still have that one.

There are a few guns that I would really like to have, an MP5 would be one of them. My buddy was selling his MP5SD a few years back but I couldn't swing the $12K. :(

It has been over 20 years since I bought my first gun and I still get a few butterflies when I purchase another one.

S&W 1006 - summer of '91. Inspired by too many Clint Eastwood movies, it only took 6 mos. of regular (weekly) shooting, to finally start hitting my target. :p

Carried it for 12 years, but saw the writing on the wall AFA as 10mm was concerned, and decided to standardize my sidearms to 1911's in .45. I still miss the roar of full-house loads. ;)

Colt Python, I've had it for about 15 years now. The serial number says that it was built in 1967. The handles are worn, and the bluing on the very end of the bbl. is worn from holstering/unholstering (the previous owner shot competitively).

It shoots like a dream and my handgun collection wouldn't be complete without it.

It has the smoothest action of any pistol I've ever fired (it has had some work done on it).

Before I was old enough to own a handgun I had to have a Glock 19 and a H&K P7M8. Got the G19 when I was 21 and the P7 when I was 22. Still have them today!

No doubt. I owned Colt Python with a 4 inch barrel, way back in the day. I traded it like a dumb ass, a few years later.:( Currently, it's the M&P series.

Wow, nice to see the P99 getting some loving. For me, it wasn't 007 that got me interested - a lot of it was Underworld. It may not have been the best movie but Kate Beckinsale dual-weilding a pair of P99s while wearing skin-tight black leather should get any man's blood going :D

An AR-15 of course.

I agree it's a must have but I purposely didn't mention it because there are plenty of good reasons to want one, and it certainly ain't oddball enough :D

Well, I just added another "had to have" to my collection - ordered the aforementioned Jericho 941 online and should hopefully have it in my greedy little hands within the week. Can't wait!

Another oddball gun I find myself wanting just for the heck of it is an FN FS2000. I wouldn't give up my trusty AR for it but I think it's one sexah looking gun. "Space gun" indeed!

I thought it was a neat design and visually appealing. Completely worthless mind you, but cool nonetheless. It's a hoot to shoot.

I took a FS2000 through a carbine class and I liked it quite a bit. To me, it balanced much better than the AR-15. It does handle differently though.

As soon as I found out about the HK Elite in 9mm I had to have it. They had just stopped making them and I found one online. It quickly became my "go to" target pistol. I managed to take a red-tailed fox squirrel at about 70-80 yards with it two years ago with its open sights (totally amazed myself!). OK, I did have a rest but still my greatest shot ever and still my favorite handgun.

A 1938 S/42 P.08 Luger-mine was a matching serial number Russian capture piece, with a Russian arsenal matte bluing and non-matching grips; it went to John Martz for a total restoration, mechanical and cosmetic-once a year, I use it with glee at an IDPA match;

A SIG P210-6, LNIB, which after about 10 years of ownership I sold to finance...

My Nighthawk Talon II, totally custom spec'ed by me;

A basic blued Ruger P89, to commemorate the P85 I carried as my PDW as a group XO in the early 1990s;

A FN Hi-Power, in .40-I've had 3, after I traded #2, I knew immediately that I needed a Hi-Power, so I lucked into one of the last NIB FN .40 Mk IIIs after FN decided to get out of the US Hi-Power market;

My Glocks-G17, G19, G21, G34-they're one of the gold standards of what a combat automatic pistol is, and should be. They're not perfect, but they are an exceptionally good tool(s);

My stainless Ruger Security Six, for its Ruger lineage, it's rugged functionality, and a certain amount of elegance;

A Beretta 92D; possessing all of the inherent goodness of the 92 series, and none (for me) of the bad features;

...and the list goes on....(but those are some of the highlights which come to mind)

Best, Jon

Sold both but wish I'd kept the 57. In fact it is the only gun I REALLY regret selling.

It was awkward and uncomfortable to shoot, but it was a piece of art.

A Taurus Raging Bull .44 Mag...

Believe it or not, my first CCW gun was a 6" version of the above. I figured if I was ever cornered by a pack of hungry Rhinoceri, numbering less than six, I was set. My second CCW weapon was a .45LC Ruger Vaquero.

Seriously, I had no idea what I was thinking. I've got some sort of emotional connection/romantic notion, in regards to sixguns.

A buddy of mine got stabbed by, ironically, six guys in his apartment, and I decided that wheelguns made for pretty useless self-defense weapons, in today's world.

Shortly thereafter, I went back to autos.

Star Model FR .22lr. Unfortunately, its not very ammo friendly.
Glock model 17L, this pistol makes me feel like im a better pistol shooter than I am.

Currently "have" to own - DSA FAL, I will get is this year...because after all, I HAVE to own one.

Later on - M1 Garand, S&W model 41

H&K P9S. Ever since seeing some from various older TV shows and movies (some as far back as the '80s), I just always thought they looked cool as heck. Sort of like a super-sized PPK. I bought one almost 2 years ago, and loved the gun to death. Sold it awhile back to pay the bills. I will own one again, as I just think they are too cool, look great, have a unique cocker/decocker lever, etc. Next time I'm getting the Target model and putting a can on it, and then I can probably die a happy man. ;)

I actually got to try an Armscor before at their shooting range in Makati when I went on vacation in Manila last June. It had seen a lot of mileage but shot fine. Also got to try a Norinco at the other range in Makati Cinema Square - now that mall was gun lover's heaven for Filipino gun nuts - one store after another packed with firearms :D

HK USP40 -- Bought one the first day they were available at my local gun shop. Read an article by this high-speed low-drag uber-experienced gun writer named Duane Thomas saying it was the toughest, most capable pistol ever designed and was his #1 choice for a home defense pistol.

Browning Hi-Power .40 -- Bought one a couple months later when that same gun writer wrote that it was the toughest, most capable pistol ever designed and was his #1 choice for a home defense pistol.

After that, I stopped reading gun magazines.

Makati needs a place like MCS, probably because the Ayala clan doesn't seem to want any gun shop within the malls they own/operate. and since they literally own 3/4 of Makati City.......Armscor and Norinco 1911s are great basic guns that are cheap and easily upgraded. in the end, you get a great race gun thats cheaper than the rest.

SOCOM II - traded it after 40 rounds. Common sense got the better of me.

Had to have a S&W 4506 (-1 preferred). Always liked its size and Sonny Crocket carried one in the last season of Miami Vice (plus numerous other TV stars), need I say more. I have no plans on carrying it, it pulls bed side duty. Accurate as a laser and as reliable as my Glock 19s.

When I was there they were renovating MCS and building a new apartment complex on top. Hopefully they'll turn it into a nicer place that's not so rundown but without going too upscale and losing the charm that old-school malls like that and Virra Mall have. I think the old, packed-to-the-gills style malls are a lot more fun than the huge supermalls like Mall of Asia and so on that are all too neat and tidy and only sell politically correct stuff.

It's fun wandering the cramped corridors of the older malls with their haphazard layout where you don't know what might be just around the corner :D

Guns weren't the only cool things you could find at MCS lol.

MCS is still as rundown as you remember, i guess. its notorious nowadays for a place you could get pirated DVDs for less than a 1$ each. the cops raid it once a week, but the pirates come back after the cops leave. then of course, its also a hangout for "dancers" from the nearby girlie clubs.;):D almost all the large gun shops have branches or main offices there, though, and it boasts of 2 quality indoor ranges, one of them run by Jethro Dionisio himself.

uhmmm, i guess i should tell you. the Ortigas family has renovated Virra Mall. its called VMall now. looks ultra modern. i go there once in awhile. just outside the mall is still crawling with small shops with cheap knockoffs- could you say Gucci handbags for $5?- but i go there, because there are 2 new good gun stores there, as well as an outdoors shop....

Wow - how about all of them.

My first Beretta - 92F(post Lethal Weapon and Die Hard)
Colt AR-15HBAR (closest to what we were issued - Army)
M14 (have an old black and white photo of my dad carrying one in Viet Nam)

After that collection varied but some of what I thought was more obscure:
Dragonov(Chinese in .308, not a Romy)
Nazi marked P38 and Luger(start of my WWII collection)
and like quite a few here, a Walther P99 AS(Bond)

P.S. - regretted every one I had sold.

I am going to add my Lazza grips as always and just enjoy what I didnt like about my Lightweight Commander which was the full size frame and now I'll enjoy what dont like about my Kimber - the weird recoil spring set up.

This is just a fun discontinued Colt model that from all the research I could do was built very well by them!!!!

I was all geeked up about the HK 45 for about a year before it actually came out. I think I went through a faze of being a bit of an HK fanboy, got enamored with the people they consulted with (Hackethorn and Vickers) and decided that was going to be the gun for me. When I got it I was almost immediately less of a fan than I thought I was going to be. Don't get me wrong, there are a ton of things to like about the gun but with its horrible trigger and not including night sights I was a bit bummed out about a gun that I paid over a thousand dollars for.

I ended up selling it and buying two CZ's for only a little more than what I paid for that gun originally.

I guess I learned my lesson on that one. Though to be honest, I did a bit of the same thing with the LMT Piston Carbine. The difference is that I am 100% happy with that purchase and will likely be buying the 7.62 version when it comes out.

Good discussion!

Man I have one of them. Bought it back in 86 when I was working U/C. I love that thing. I sometimes carried it as a second weapon. Perfect for hiding it up in your crotch and wrapping it with an ACE Bandage. Carried in my boot on numerous occasions. On the ankle or in my vest when I worked the road.

Another Walther P99 here. I bought my 1st Generation P99 back in 1996 or 1997. I've also been itching for an M4 type rifle. My shopping cart has the BCM Midlength I'm going to order from GRTactical BUT I'm still waiting for my new Visa Debit card... Shouldn't be more than a couple of days now!

Add to this a 5" barreled DA revolver in 44 mag.

I wonder what a super redhawk would look like with the barrel chopped to 5 inches?

Probably still ugly. :D

I just love being criticized for things I never said. Other than as one-third of a comparison shootout (Glock 22 vs. HK USP vs. Smith & Wesson Sigma) I have never done an article on the HK USP .40. Not only did I not, in that article, say the HK was the "toughest, most capable pistol ever designed and my #1 choice for a home defense pistol," I actually came to the conclusion that of the three I preferred the Glock 22, and said so in the article.

I actually did do a review of the Browning Hi-Power .40 when it was introduced. Didn't say that one was the toughest, most capable pistol ever produced and my #1 choice for a home defense pistol in that piece, either.

LMT Defender 200 with Sopmod Stock (and options that cost as much as the rifle)

It seems that way but it feels just like your basic American-style sporter stock.

Glock 23 for me. Wasn't really a big fan when I first shot Glocks in the early 90's. Then last year I needed a simple, rugged, dependable defensive type pistol in something bigger than 9mm for carry and training. After handling many of their offerings I knew I needed a Model 23 (Compact in .40 SW). How my thinking went from, 'Eh, it's a Glock' to 'Yup, gotta have one', I'll never know. I will say that even if I never buy or own another Glock the 23 has earned a permanent place in the rotation. Great pistol that I didn't see coming.

Wow, that has the potential to be a long list.

Winchester Big Bore 94 in 375 Winchester - A beauty I picked up used and added a Lyman receiver sight to. Traded it in a fit of stupidity for a gun I no longer have.

Pre-war Colt Officers Model Target - the one with the adjustable sights, rear for windage and front for elevation. It had a trigger pull to die for, the best handgun trigger I've ever shot. It was also very accurate I ended up trading it back to the friend I bought it from.

SSR-56 AK - My first, and only, foray into the AK field. I really wanted to like this gun but for some reason AK's and I didn't hit it off. It was traded for an M&P15.

Savage 99 in 300 Savage - A nice, clean late 40's example with an older Lyman All American 2-1/2 power scope. I took a deer with it shortly after buying it and then puit it away. I still have it but never shoot it anymore. I keep it thinking one of my kid's will want it for a deer rifle someday.

How about a Techno MAG7 Shotgun. I had to have it. I remember seeing a picture of those things when I was younger and thought they looked so cool. Looked is right because they are impractical as hell, esp. if find some info on their intended use.

Oh and I "had to have" everything else I own. It's pertinent to my survival. Right?

I ended up with my most recent purchases because I had to have them...

LMT CQB 16... When my hands touched this rifle I could have sworn it was love at first sight. Reminded me of the Colt I used to love, but in a better package for my use/tastes.

M&P 9mm...I was looking at Sigs and then I caught wind of this pistol... Once I laid hands on it, I knew I would be taking one home. And I did.

Next must have? LMT .308 when it comes out. Pass the Koolaid! Or perhaps it will be a Walther P99 (I don't blame you guys on this one, it's the only other pistol that I have touched recently that I've said I WANT this...I've got a feeling I will be coming back from the December Crossroads of the West gun show a little heavier than when I got there :D)

I had to have a CZ P07 Duty, but could not find one. I then saw an FNP45 and fell in Love with it, but they did not have Black. The next day I found the CZ P07 Duty and met a Sig 2022 that was lonely, so I bought them both.
On the way home I got a call about my new Love, the FNP45, so I went to see her the next day. She too had to come home with me, and did...

First pistol was a S&W model 4566 tactical that was nice but traded it for a G23 and carried it for a good while. After a few thousand rounds thru it, my buddy loved it so much he traded it for his HK USPC .45 I carry it to this day. The only regrets I have are getting rid of a LAR Grizzly mark 5 in .44 mag. this is something i am currently negotiating the price on. Its a Star Model P, a Spanish gun known for reliability but never made it big in the US market. this is for nostalgia's sake, as the gun i am trying to buy happens to be the first gun my dad ever owned. its basically a 1911 design (Star had been licensed to make 1911s for the Spanish army in the 20s), but in 380 and almost 3/5 the size of a Colt. was a great and fun gun to shoot, and was pretty concealable. he sold it 15 years back, and got himself a S&W airlite, and a Jericho 941SB. don't really have any use for it, but again, i want it back in the family.

Firearms that I just HAD to have and now have gotten rid of:

Franchi SPAS 12 with the folding stock... yeah, big heavy mistake.
HK Mk23 'offensive handgun'... yeah, big heavy expensive mistake.
HK USP in .45... yeah, big heavy mistake.
SIG P229 in .40... just didn't like the .40 SW caliber
GLOCK 23 (Gen 1)... same with the .40 SW
Dan Wesson Pointman Major .45 (1911)... great handgun but the target sights made it mediocre for CCW

Anything else I've bought and horsetraded/sold I'd buy again.

All through my childhood I wanted a Ruger MKI 5 1/2 bull barrel. COULD NOT WAIT till I was old enough to get one.

Believe it or not, I waited what seemed like forever to get a Ruger P85 (many delays in getting the guns to the dealers), as I was sure this pistol would become the chosen sidearm of the free world.

One gun I bought, the second I saw it, even though I didn't have the money, was something not yet popular, and soon to be somewhat controversial, called a Glock17, and I was the ONLY one I knew that had one. Used to have to explain to people what it was! The Glock kinda caught on I'd say.

At first it was a glock 19 back in 1996. I didnt know how to shoot it properly at all, I sold it to a friend. I HAD to have:

Kimber Classic
HK P7
S&W 686
Ruger SP101
SIG 225
SIG 239
S&W 642

Then I learned to shoot the 19 after just one 10 minute tutorial by Greg Hamilton of Insights Training. Now I ONLY 2 glock 19's and still have the 642. A Khar PM9 completes the picture for total concealability. All the others are gone and my strategic plan is to keep it down to the current stable.

Probably either my 92FS or my Springer in 9mm. Two of the easiest, and softest shooting gun's I've tried. I lucked out with 1911 has it's been reliable for nearly 8,000 rounds without a hiccup (cleaned, regularly, however).

However, neither gets that much use these days except for the range. My M&P has become my all-'round handgun for the moment.

Keepers:

Nighthawk Custom custom spec'ed Talon II-crafted specifically to my requirements

Glock G17, G19, G34, and G21-exceptionally reliable and durable tools-among the industry's gold standard for combat handguns

Beretta 92D-For me, all the plusses of the 92-series, with none of the minuses

Ruger P89-My very late production example is exceptionally accurate; in my opinion one of the strongest and most durable 9mm duty pistols built (and believe it or not, the ergonomics actually are pretty good)

FN Hi-Power-Yeah, it probably won't last as long as a more heavily built 1911, but it'll likely be more reliable through its forecasted lifespan, with exquisite ergos

Ruger Security Six-Classic durable revolver, perfect for nightstand duty and IDPA SSR

Luger P.08, redone by John Martz-a masterpiece re-done by a master craftsman and a gentleman

Bushmaster XM15 Shorty AK-compact and handy AR, with a true heavy barrel from breach to muzzlebrake. The AK74 muzzlebrake effectively eliminates any muzzle flip, and the rifle is exceptionally accurate

And The Discards... (Bought, then later sold/traded)

SIG P210-6 Sold to finance Nighthawk-superb gun, but a bit of a safe queen

Beretta Cougar 8357 I really, really wanted to like this gun, both for it's size, ergonomics and the .357 SIG chambering-but it simply wasn't trustworthily reliable

Walther P5 Great gun, but a bit of an unused safe queen; it's odd trigger made it more of a "single pistol" gun-great for the person who predominantly/exclusively uses it

Walther P5C A crystallized plastic mainspring fillet piece that retained the mainspring strut (crystallization rendered the gun totally unfirable) made this one a repair and quickly trade out (reportedly, the SAS version of this gun has the plastic piece replaced with a metal component, and the larger P5's strut is retained at the metal frame)

Colt Custom Shop Combat Commander Sold for the Glock G19; heresy is some circles, but I'm much happier with the Glock, especially regarding reliability (and I've got the Nighthawk Talon II to fulfull the Commander-size .45 niche)

Steyr M40 Interesting "improved" Glock G23, but unreliable

Walther P88 Beautifully made and very accurate, but bulky and frankly just didn't do anything that other DA/SA guns in my possession did. Also had the same quirky P5 triggerpull, and notoriously fragile plastic grips

Walther P.38/P1 Historically significant, but obscelescent operationally

Beretta 92 Compact Type M Beautifully made, but overly bulky (and with some sharp points on the receiver tang); much preferred my SIG P225 in its niche

Colt Lawman Mk V Magnificently made "entry" fixed-sight police revolver, but a safe queen. Some trigger rubbing on the inside of the triggerguard, combined with the relatively untunable surface hardened action components made this one take a distinct second seat to my Ruger Security Six and GP100

P229/229 Commemmorative/229DAK I've had 3 of these, and none of them has ended up being a keeper. Selling the Commemmorative financed my honeymoon, and the others just never sufficiently grasped my interest. The DAK was a great gun, but the action demanded near exclusivity to truly take advantage of it, which I wasn't willing to give. Somewhat heavy and bulky for their niche, but undeniably rugged and reliable.

HK P7 PSP-Mine was a mid 1990s production gun, which I ordered brand-new from HK. Its unique action/manual of arms pretty much mandated that it be an "exclusive/predominate use" gun; that combined with prohibitively expensive (and difficult to obtain) magazines, weird (and somewhat uncomfortable, even with a quality custom holster) balance when holstered, combined with heating issues and cartridge restrictions made this an easy sale when it became the gun a friend of mine had to have

Of course, there are others in both categories, but I thought it would be fun to share some of the highlights that came to mind.

Best, Jon

my STI Trojan 45ACP or my SIG P6.

I don't shoot the SIG as well as I do my Glock, but I just had to have it for some reason. The STI, well, that thing is a laser and I will never get rid of it.

My very first handgun was my Beretta 92fs. It was the first handgun that I ever bought. I am embarassed to admit this, but the main reason I bought it was because of movies like Lethal Weapon. Everyone tried to talk me into other handguns like the Sig and the S&W. But, I really wanted that Beretta

I bought it about 20 years ago. I still have it. I hardly shoot it. But, for some reason I cannot bring myself to get rid of it.

Another gun that I just had to have was a Smith and Wesson Model 66 no-dash. I was at a gunshow when I saw a lieutenant I worked with trying to sell it. This was back in the mid 90's when there was a surplus of old police revolvers on the market. The gun dealer he was talking to wouldn't give him the $250 that he was asking for it. On impulse, I told him that I would take it. The gun dealer did not like that. And I admit that it was rude of me to do. But I am a sucker for any old pinned and recessed S&W Revolver.

Right after the passage of the Clinton AWB, I was talking to a manager of a convenince store that I visited. He wanted to buy a new gun. His wife said no, unless he got rid of one first. So, I quickly bought a Colt Sporter HBar from him. The agreement was made before I even saw the rifle. But, becuase of the AWB, I was afraid to let that opportunity slip through my fingers. It was my very first AR 15

SIG P228, P226, P229, P220, P220ST (Really liked them but I don't like DA/SA pistols anymore. oh well.)

S&W 586 and 686 (big bulky heavy, sweet shooters though)

Springfield Professional X 2 (great 1911's. I've since moved away from 1911's but kept a Baer TRS. I wanted to have at least one blued steel pistol, so why not a 1911)

BHP MK III .40 (if you want a cocked locked .40 S&W pistol this is a great choice)
BHP MK III and Practical in 9mm (these are the only ones I wish I kept)

Beretta 92FS and Beretta 92G Elite (big bulky)

HK USP (big bulky)

Ruger SP101 (I like J frames better and prefer to shoot .38 +P's out of these small revolvers anyways)

Bunch of .40 S&W Glocks

I think I've basically whittled away pistols that don't have the economy of design and low weight as a 9mm Glock. If I need to beat someone off with my pistol I guess I'm SOL. (that's not what I meant)

My first pistol absolutely had to be a Beretta 92FS, I grew up on Lethal Weapon and John Woo movies. I thought the 92FS was the coolest, most beautiful pistol ever.
My second pistol just had to be a Colt 45, sadly I could not afford one at 21 so I got a Springfield Stainless 1911 instead. I dont regret either purchase, looking back I wish I had kept them both.
My first rifle had to ba a Russian made AK, so I bought a Saiga. I also just could not live without a custom built, & tuned AR-15. Needeless to say I got that too.

Simple choices compared to some others posted, but these were guns I just had to have.

For me it was also a Walther P99 AS in 9mm. Unfortunately the AS trigger just isnt for me and I sold it a while back. Maybe some day I will try one with the QA trigger.

You may be right...never thought of buying a ticket...
Did think, for a split second, about trading a G26 (that I had $400 in) to get a G19.
WHY? - Because a guy had a J-frame w/ CT grips & WANTED TO TRADE FOR A G19 w/ some full cap mags (just before Clinton ban's sunset).

*Don't hate me, too badly, but I HAD TO HAVE IT*

Though I never thought I'd get one, & certainly not with my $400 investment, I ended up with:

Beretta 92G

Always wanted a 92 growing up watching Die Hard, and playing Resident Evil. Decided that I really didn't need a safety+decocker, and settled on the G.

I love it, and consider it the best DA/SA handgun. That said, I have abandoned the 92 series for 9mm Glocks (G19 specifically). Just make more sense to settle on one platform.

My very first AR-15, an M16A2 clone. Closest thing I could get my hands on to the M16A2 rifle I had in boot. It'll soon be upgraded with an A4 upper from BCM; I can always put the A2 on when I'm feeling nostalgic.

My most recent purchase, made due to countless hours lurking and researching here on this board: an M&P9, full size.

Since I'm falling in love with the M&P series, and I'm sitting on a small stash of .45, might go ahead and grab an M&P45 as well when funds permit.

Early '90's Colt started making six shot detective specials again and I was carrying a 642 S&W as a CCW and back up and the extra round was something I had to have. I read about it in a few gun mags and started pestering my local gun shop to order it.

I carried it for a while and ended up selling it to a friend, there was a reason Colt stopped making them, the JFrames are more concealable. I bought a 442 to replace the 642 which I sold to fund the Colt. The 442 went south when I found another 642. I wish I still had that gun. It came outta my pocket the day I saw my 340PD. I bought it on the spot.

A few years back when the NJSP was transitioning away from the P7M8, my local dealer had a handful. No box, papers or tools, but four original not a scratch HK magazines. I picked out the cleanest one I found and sent it off to ol' Walter Birdsong for a refinish. Top half Black-T, bottom half Green-T, and all mags done in black. Outstanding piece that is very unique.
Sort of replaces the very original P7 (SN# in the 15k range) I had and sold way back when in the early 80s...:suicide2:

For me it was the PS90. Always liked the ergonomics and compactness of the weapon. I have no illusions of its terminal ballistics, but at the time there was much discussion of banning the weapon/cartridge. I figure, if it pisses off Pelozi, Clinton, Obama, Reid, etc. then I need one. ;)

My Ruger Mk III

I went to the range with a friend, but all my guns had locks on them, and I left the keys at home. At the range I rented a USP 45 for 100 rounds... but then I wanted to try something else... and tried their worn mk II... It probably had 100,000 shots through it, and the trigger/sear was so wonderfully worn... the thing shot so easily, pointed so naturally, loaded so easily... at that point I /needed/ a 22 pistol. (all I had for pistols was a 9mm, only shooting a year at that point)

The next day I ran out and bought the first one I found. The 6" bull barrel is heavy and kinda unnecessary, but I was making hits out at 100 yards with it last year... (the VQ kit I have (sans hammer) is great too)

Sorry to hear that sir, the .32 is more finicky than the .25, this one eats everything from Armscor, Mag-Tech, CCI, and even some Serbian rounds (Partizan) and it groups very nicely for a gun with no sights.

I like the new breed of pocket pistolas available today like the P3AT, the LCP, the Kahr P380 and PM9/MK9...haven't handled a Rohrbaugh yet but have heard good things.

Cool factor I suppose. My first day out I put 30 rounds into a paper plate at 200 yards (with optics). HK P30 (Got one in V3 in 2008, Love it, now I want another one in LEM)
Sig P226 (Got It, love it)
M&P9 (Got it, like the gun, but not my favorite trigger)
Walther P99 AS (Got a P99c, my carry gun, still want a full size)

HK45 LEM (Have to have a super reliable 45ACP. I already got the threaded barrel, to replace my previous "had to have" USP45 Tactical)
1911 (self-explanatory)
STI GP 6 (Just because of the rotating barrel)
HK P7 (Just because of the Squeeze Cocker)
SW 44 Magnum Revolver (I gotta have at least one revolver)

1. Kimber SIS R/L
2. SIG P226 Blackwater Tactical
3. SIG P226 Gadsden
4. Springfield Armory M6 Scout
5. CavArms CAV-15. In purple. With matching handguards... :jester:

All bought because they were limited run, out of production, and/or would make hippies cry.

S&W M29 6"bbl - which I stupidly used as a trade-in. Live and learn . . .

SIG P220 - W. German gun. Don't think I'll ever part with this one.

Walther P99 AS for sure.
SigPro SP2022 and Sig P226R DAK, too good of a price. Sold both.
MSAR STG-556. Sold because I bought a Colt LE6920 to take its place as my one defensive rifle.

My first had to have gun was a Colt Delta Elite. Ran it pretty hard for about 2 years then the plunger tube sheared off, I guess the somewhat heavy recoil was tough on the stake job. Traded it straight up for a NIB S & W 915. Wish I still had it. My second had to have is my current 3rd gen G19 which I sold a 1st gen. plain jane Kimber to get. I still have the opportunity to shoot the Kimber as I sold to a buddy at work.

I picked up a surplus Walther P-1 because I just had to have a P-38 of some type. It's a great little gun with the best sights I've ever seen on an old-school military handgun.

I also got a Mosin M44, made in 1944, just because I like old WWII blasters and it was $90 out-the-door.

Guns I just had to have, huh? Who does that? :sarcastic:

Serbu Super Shorty. After some horse trading, a lucky raffle, and some other things, I have $100 in it. 1 box of shells through it and most of those weren't even shot by me.

HK USP .45 with the grey frame. I'm selling my Sig 220 that I shoot better than the HK, only because I'm NOT selling the HK for some dumb reason. I don't really care to have 2 .45s as I never shoot them.

Single shot 12 gauge. Looks cool, makes me feel like a cowboy. :D Some more horse trading ended me up with that one.

Benelli M1S90
Browning HP
5 AK variants (all sold now)

I still have a few that seem obscure, but serve a purpose currently.

my first real "just because" gun was bought this year. Rossi Ranch Hand in .357. It serves no purpose other than just being "cool" and fun. Everyone who has shot it comes back from the line with a big grin on their face.

Colt Government model 1911 in stainless, still have it.
Browning Hi Power, blued, tangent sights, still have it.
Sig P220, '90s vintage, still have it.
Beretta 92FS, sold it with 6 mags.......probably should not have done that.
S&W Model 19.......always wanted one and I found and bought a Texas Rangers commemorative.....still have it, and have only shot maybe 50 rounds out of it.
Colt Special Combat Govt in .45, just beautiful and will never part with it.
As far as wants still to get.......too many to list here. I need a new gun safe.

Before I turned 21 I was big on reading all the gun rags. So, on my 21st birthday I ran to the fun shop and filled out the paper on a Para Ord Nite Tac LDA, junk.....Oh, If I knew then what I knew now. I ended up trading that gun for a Springfield Mil Spec.

Currently I really want a Dan Wesson Valor. But I absolutly have no NEED for that gun, or any 1911 for that matter. Don't stop me from coveting one though.

Only gun I "had to have" that I still own is my SCAR, others at the time were my M1A, FN Five seveN IOM, and Ruger Super Redhawk .454 casull. The latter 3 were all sold off one by one as I grew older and my mind got practical. Now all I have are AR's and a small sample of modern semi automatic handguns that are mainly issued sidearms.

Most of my guns serve a purpose for me either for work or play. However one gun I would like to have for shits and giggles is a Vltor Bren 10 if they ever release it. When I was a kid I remember seeing a Bren 10 and wanting one.

HK45C - it is White Unicorn here in Europe (HK only sent few of them for sale in EU 3 years ago). I just managed to snatch one and seems like it was good decision.

Second on the list was STI 2011 in .40SW. I had one custom made for me in Czech Republic.

Third was HK MR223, to have one rifle that will in same time ease symptoms of BRD and HKool-Aid addiction ;)

The one that I never ever wanted to have, for even brief moment nor planned to acquire for any reason was Glock. And now I have G17 Gen4 that I won in raffle. And I like it. Works so far.

Hi-Point C9! At $170, how can I not get one? (especially when I've spent as much on individual buttstocks) It's hilarious. :D

I'll shoot it 'til it blows up, then mail in the parts and get a new one for free.

My S&W Victory .38 special, 4 inch barrel.

I have always liked the classic lines and thin barrel profile of the M&P K frame.

I was looking to get a old school Model 10 but found my Victory instead. The Victory is the granddaddy to the M&P Model 10.

I had to have a Dan Wesson Valor, and a Browning Hi-Power, a pump 12ga shotgun, and a Colt 6920. HAD TO. The rest were pretty much kinda wanna have enough that I will buy it, because it's there.

The AK-47 is one I bought almost by accident, because I was intending to pick up a VZ-58. The VZ-58s were fresh out when I got to the gun store that I thought had some, but they had AKs. The one I bought turned out to be one of my favorite firearms; not because it's the most accurate, or the prettiest, but, well, if you have one, you know why.

A Luger, of course.

Ones I had to have, and got-- CZ75. It was cool but I lost interest and sold it. It was from before you could get them here. Benelli B76-- 3-4 years ago. I remembered them being so butter-smooth. Bought it practically unused, was disappointed, sold it right away. Wierd thing, now I want another, the B82, same thing but in 9mm Ultra. They were going for $200 a few years ago. I wold shoot up the 100 or so Ultras I have and then rebarrel to Makarov.

Walther PPQ. When I found out the M2 was about to be released I immediately sought out a "classic" model because not only did I have to have this particular gun, but I had to have it with the paddle style mag release. Now it's my favorite pistol in the world and I'm starting to feel like I have to have another one.

I always wanted a Colt single action army (peacemaker), so I bought a Uberti cattleman (clone). For $400 it's actually a hell of a gun, very accurate, very smooth, and actually goes deer hunting with me as a backup/tight quarters (under my stand, thick brush) gun.

My Beretta 92. Ironically I don’t shoot it much anymore but that’s the gun that got me into guns.

My Springer 1911. As soon as I picked it up I loved it, and really loved the trigger. They could have been asking MSRP and I’d have paid it. Thankfully they weren’t.
