Please use this thread to ask any questions or make suggestions on our up-coming Member Sales Forums expansion & changes.

M4c is proud to announce our up-coming “Members Sale Forum(s)” expansion & changes. In response to years of requests by our members we are planning to greatly expand and subdivide our members for sale sections. There are also going to be some new procedure and rules changes to make things easier for everybody. The goal is to have the easiest to use marketplace of any forum, and keep it completely free to our members.

The point of contact for these new sections will be M4c staff members SHIVAN and gotm4. Please contact them with questions and/or problem resolution.

The new forum separate sub-sections:

AR COMPLETE RIFLES & LOWERS

AR COMPLETE UPPERS

AR PARTS & FURNITURE

AR RAIL SYSTEMS & ACCESSORIES

AR MAGAZINES

AK RIFLES

AK PARTS, ACCESSORIES & MAGAZINES

ALL OTHER LONGGUNS

ALL OTHER LONGGUN PARTS, ACCESSORIES & MAGAZINES

HANDGUNS

HANDGUN PARTS, ACCESSORIES & MAGAZINES

OPTICS, SIGHTS & MOUNTS

LIGHTS & LASERS

AMMUNITION

HOLSTERS, GEAR & KNIVES

NFA ITEMS

EVERYTHING ELSE

The new procedures and rules:

For Equipment Exchange ad posters:

You must have 30 posts, while contributing positively to this forum community, in order to start new topics in the Marketplace. Industry Professionals, Subject Matter Experts, and M4C Dealers and Manufacturers are exempt from this rule.

Include "WTB" "WTS" and/or "WTT" in your thread title. All WTS ads *must* have a price in the ad, or in the header description. You should also indicate where you are located and what methods of payment you will accept.

No auctions - list a price at which you are willing to sell, not an artificially high price in anticipation of fielding "bids" via email or PM. No links to auction sites, either.

Your ad will be locked out to all members except you - only you can post in your own ad.

Do not bump your ad until 48 hours have elapsed.

Three advertisements on the first page is the maximum allowed. Having more then three will lead to deletions, without notice - combine ads as best you can.

All items for sale should be from your personal collection. Outside dealers must come to an agreement with Site STAFF in order to sell new parts and inventory on this site.

Absolutely no group buys, unless you are a Site Sponsor, Industry Professional/SME, or have written authorization from SHIVAN or The_Katar.

Once you have sold the item you are selling or found the item you are buying, please edit your original ad and change the title. Do not post in a thread to indicate that the item has been SOLD, SOLD PENDING FUNDS, RECEIVED or otherwise. There is no reason to bring a SOLD item back to the top of the first page. Do not edit the final sale price from your ad. It is helpful for the buyer, seller and this community to know what items sold for recently, and in the past.

For Equipment Exchange ad responders:

Use PM or email to contact the OP - you will not be able to post in their ad. The fact that you sent them a PM or email will be obvious when their inbox has new messages.

If a seller has not acknowledged attempts to contact them via both PM and email for more than 48 hours, contact SHIVAN or The_Katar.

For all members:

Fraudulent practices or attempts to defraud another person or group will be dealt with very seriously.

Thanks very much, I am looking forward to the new changes. :)

Will the new product announcements still be handled as they are now?

Thanks very much.

All,

Obviously we are very excited about this new sales forum, which we feel will be great for the site and the membership. When we implement this we will do our best to migrate as many current ads into their new appropriate sections, but obviously there will be some issues (there always is.) We ask please for your patience and understanding during this transition, and to also voice your concerns/issues either in this thread or directly to myself and/or SHIVAN.

Regards,

The_Katar

The new Equipment Exchange (http://www.m4carbine.net/forumdisplay.php?f=108) is now live. Please post all ads in this new section in compliance with the new procedures and rules stuck at the top of each forum. We will be eliminating the old member sales forum soon, so please refrain from posting any new ads in that location.

Everybody is encouraged to look around, post their ads and let us know what you think in this thread - let us know if anything is wrong, too!

I saw a post earlier where someone posted a flash hider in the optic section along with the LaRue T-1 mount. Is this permissible or does it have to be listed seperately?

When I moved stuff over, I used the "whichever item was most expensive" got the majority classification and determined the forum to which it was moved.

If people put their ads in the wrong forum, it will be somewhat self-correcting as the item will likely never sell due to people not looking there for it....

Many old ads have been migrated for the sake of convenience - hence some will be a mish-mash of stuff.

The idea going forward with the new EE is to keep the ads as specific as possible.

Just a quick observation on the new changes...not necessarily a negative, but more of a question.

I like the new setup, don't get me wrong. It allows users to go directly to a sub-category that contains items which they are looking for specifically. My problem, and question is much the same as Iraqgunz,

I saw a post earlier where someone posted a flash hider in the optic section along with the LaRue T-1 mount. Is this permissible or does it have to be listed seperately?

What if a seller has a "multi-item" sale...much like DocSherm's big garage sale? Which category do they list it in? What if a member has these items that they wish to list for sale all at once:
-AR upper
-AK mags
-TLR-2
-a batch of 5.56 ammo
-a Ruger 10/22

Which category do they list in? It seems to me that listing each item in its respective category would create lots of posts when they could all be consolidated into one under the old method. Mods, what are your thoughts?

Gentleman,

Quick observations here/my opinion. There are a lot of sub-categories. As in, too much. Seems very busy for the casual browser. I can understand if there is just so much posting going on that Joe Snuffy surfing after work has to go through a couple pages just to see the days postings, but there isn't.

Not sure where else to post comments about it.

I think the idea of sub-categories was good, but I also agree that there are far too many. I think a couple of them could be condensed to make viewing easier.

For example:
AK RIFLES
AK PARTS, ACCESSORIES & MAGAZINES
ALL OTHER LONGGUNS
ALL OTHER LONGGUN PARTS, ACCESSORIES & MAGAZINES

I think making that all ONE sub category would make the page easier to view. There are a few others that could be combined as well.

DocSherm's ad was in place under the old marketplace board, and therefore it doesn't fit the mold for the new equipment exchange board.

If someone needed to sell the 5 items you have listed, they would list five separate ads in the respective areas...

OR they can list a "catch all ad" under "Everything Else"

OR if they have one large item like an AR upper for $1200 and by comparison the other items are trivial, they can throw them all on the AR Upper ad -- but obviously you'd miss a lot of traffic on your AK mags because they were not listed under AK mags...

I can understand if there is just so much posting going on that Joe Snuffy surfing after work has to go through a couple pages just to see the days postings, but there isn't.

The_Katar and I were watching the old marketplace board very carefully for quite some time, and I sell stuff on a regular basis that just doesn't fit my needs any longer. Oftentimes, I would bump my ad around 10:30am and by the time I got home at 6:30pm, it would be FOUR pages deep.

That was completely unsatisfactory to me, the other staff and our mods. More importantly it was adversely effecting our members ability to sell things in a timely manner or find things to buy efficiently.

We'd like to facilitate both the buyers and the sellers to move gear in a timely fashion without a loss in visibility due to the sheer volume of ads being posted and bumped. Our increase in membership size made the old marketplace obsolete.

The new equipment exchange allows the buyer to jump right to a specific category, and browse a smaller subset of ads focused directly on items pertinent to his interests. Making it "WIN-WIN" for buyer and seller.

While we appreciate the feedback, we are pretty pleased with the sub-categories that are in place. Consolidating categories is looking at where we are now, not where we might be in the future.

Membership is up, and ad thread generation is up. We expect that trend to continue and have grouped the equipment exchange categories to be forward looking with anticipation of more growth.

Thanks.

That would be the reason to have as many categories. Apprectiate the responses and some explanation.

I really like it, I've been looking for one item in particular and it's easy to check that specific section a couple of times a day without having to read everything in there, and with the WTS and EE stuff in green in the "view new posts" feature it's easy just to browse for sale stuff as well. Nicely done!

I like the new EE. The categories make specific browsing pretty quick and easy and really don't seem too busy to me. Nice job.

One thing to note: Being that you must have 30 posts within the community to post or place an ad in the marketplace, with fewer than 30 posts to your name you are therefore unable to post feedback for a seller. I kinda wish this was different. Being a relative newb I do a LOT more reading and searching here than I do posting. 30 posts will come quick enough I know, but I do wish that today I could leave positive feedback for a more senior member who just went out of their way to facilitate a sale with me.

I'm not bitching and do really appreciate all the hard work you mods do around here. Just sayin-

Feedback is a completely independent forum: http://www.m4carbine.net/forumdisplay.php?f=52

Please do a search for the seller or buyer's name and if they do not have a thread, add one in that forum above.

Thanks!

Thanks for the response Shivan. Just tried again and got the same message as before:

snappy, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Not sure what that may mean to me specifically, and I [I]have[I] been able to post feedback here before a couple of times. I'll try again later and see. Thanks again.

I kinda like it but it's too busy...maybe you could consolidate a few categories...
Actually I like it the way most other boards have it;

Handguns
Long guns
Firearm Accessories

Just put my first post in the new format -- very nice guys. The prefixes on thread titles is brilliant! Just mark it sold when it's done...

If we can get/keep the feedback section on track, it'll be the slickest setup around :D

What are some ideas for things that you'd like to see?

As we grow the system of having 1 thread for each person and then relying on people to search and find it, becomes a little more cumbersome. I'm sure a lot of time is (or could be) spent consolidating those threads. I know there have been a couple times when I need to leave feedback and I can't find their thread, then I'm unsure if I'm just failing to find it or if I really need to start one. Keeping track of the stragglers who post "+1 for so and so" randomly is a pain as well, I'd imagine. Given that so many folks can't seem to figure out the search feature , relying on it for this is less than ideal. Plus it's possible for people to have names that are too short to use as a search string.

I'm sure the arfcom system of feedback list is much, much more labor intensive to maintain though, so I'm not sure what the answer is -- ain't it great when people complain, then don't have a better solution? :p

Some sort of feedback built into to board software would be cool, but I'm not that kind of computer savvy so I don't know if that's feasible.

Perhaps a way to contain a link to each person's feedback thread in their profile? Then you just click on somebody's name, pick the "view/leave EE feedback" button or tab, and it'll take you to the thread to review feedback or leave a new note.

Otherwise, the new EE is overwhemlingly better than the old version!

the EE is really a major factor in what brings me to this site, i am an old infantry cat with far too much gear for my own good, im just hoping i can trade it for something i can use.

it really looks to be a good system and i look foreword to posting some items others might want more than i...

Why can i not post in market?

I read the rules for posting in the classified section. I think it is a shame that you can't post there without hitting 30 posts. It encourages senseless posts for the sake of an arbitrary number.

I have been lurking for awhile, trying to learn more about the AR platform as I try to put my first rifle together. I haven't posted much at this point, so I can't post to the classifieds.

I would like to post that....but I can't do it since I haven't hit 30 posts yet.

Just my .02.

Having your account locked for doing it, won't help you reach that number any faster.:sarcastic:

The point of contributing worthwhile posts to the forum helps to establish you as a member of the community. Don't want to take the time to build a link, and just want to sell or buy something? This isn't the site for you.

Thanks.

I'm sorry if this has been covered in another threads but since it is with regard to my most recent 'for sale' threads... I just noticed that they no longer show up in my User CP. There was three of them, along with a few subscribed to posts. I did not unsubscribe from them, yet a few days later they're gone. Is this a function of the forum or a glitch of some type?

I was just informed that they may have all on the first page... that would've got them deleted, however, they are still in the forum, just not in the CP.
