My Grandfather just passed a couple days ago, and I now have his HiPower. What mags are best for this thing? I know for Sigs and 1911s, but not this one. I have a couple unmarked Hi Caps and a MecGar 10rd. currently. Slide only locks back on one. I shot it yesterday in tribute to the Great Man. Damn I miss him........:(

I am sorry to hear that man.

Here is a link that has all the info about BHP mags you probably need...

Mec Gars are GTG, but they don't have the mag spring at the bottom to assist in dropping free. If the Hi Power still has the mag safety, they might not drop free as well as you'd (I'd) like.

The Browning OEM mags are the only ones I have found with the spring and are also GTG.

Also tons of info here not specific to magazines, but Hi Powers in general:

Aray and Greg Bell have nailed it. Interestingly, the currrent OEM Browning/FN magazines with the "mousetrap" spring to forceably eject the magazine are made for FN/Browning by....MecGar. However, the commercial aftermarket MecGar magazines 1)don't have the "mousetrap" spring, as Aray mentioned, and 2) have a slightly different follower (not that it's a bad follower, just a bit different-don't ask me why).

In an ideal world, I'd stick with the OEM magazines (they also appear to have a exterior teflon-like coating similar to Robar's NP3, which aids in both rust prevention and provided a slick surface for the magazine safety plunger to interface with at the magazine tube's face top, which'll provide a bit of a better triggerpull with the magazine safety). These magazines are available from Browning/FN directly, and probably others.

I have one MecGar blued aftermarket magazine for my Hi-Power. It's functioned well (other than not ejecting cleanly from the receiver due to the lack of the "mousetrap" spring), so I reserve it as my "last resort" magazine (where I'm well beyond being concerned about a speedy ejection/reload).

Best, Jon

The Browning OEM mags are the only ones I have found with the spring and are also GTG.

I also recommend the OEM Browning mags. The spring is on the mag to aid in release. It is a patented design feature so even though MecGar makes the Browning brand mags for Browning, they are unable to use the spring on the MecGar brand HiPower mags.

If the mag safety is still intact, the mags generally will not drop free when empty without the spring assist. I went through this with the MecGar brand HiPower mags and had to return them and get the Browning brand mags.

It's very easy to remove. If you can drive out a pin, you can remove it with little difficulty.

CDNN has a pretty good selection. The Argentine mags are very good. The price is exceptional. 14.99
