WHILE BROWSING THE INTERNET TO SEE IF WE KNOW THE CONTENTS OF MICHAEL JACKSONS SAFE, AS I DO NOT HAVE CABLE. I FOUND THIS PICTURE OF AN LAPD OFFICER WITH A XD IN HIS HOLSTER. WHILE I BET DOLLARS TO DONUTS IT IS A .40 I THOUGHT IT WOULD MAKE A GOOD CONVO. SEEING HOW THE GLOCK VS. XD THREAD IS DEAD. I WANTED TO HEAR WHAT OTHER PEOPLES OPINIONS ARE.

1. That guy is definitely not LAPD.

2. I thought LAPD was still carrying M9s. Am I behind the times?

Definitely not an LAPD patch or an LAPD uniform.

http://www.americawear.com/images/products/Patches/lapd-patch.jpg

Probably from a smaller municipal department in the LA area...there are probably more departments around what people consider to be the LA area than you can shake a stick at. Hell, even in my sleepy little burg there are at least 6 different departments within 15 miles, not counting the state police.

According to the LAPD website, officers are authorized to carry:

Beretta:

92F, 92FS, 92FS-Stainless Steel, 8045 (4” barrel)

Smith & Wesson:

459, 5904, 5903, 659, 5906, 645, 4506, 4566, 4567, 5903 TSW, 5906 TSW, 4569 TSW, and 4566 TSW.

Glock:

9mm: Model 34, magazine capacity 17
Model 17, magazine capacity 17
Model 19, magazine capacity 15

.40 caliber: Model 35, magazine capacity 15
Model 22, magazine capacity 15
Model 23, magazine capacity 13

.45 caliber: Model 21, magazine capacity 13

No XD's on the list.

All new LAPD Officers are issued the Glock 22 in 40 caliber, after graduation I believe they can go to a 9mm, 40, 45acp, in Glock, S&W 4506/4566, Beretta 9mm, and 45acp, I don't they they have yet authorized the S&W M&P. Went to a school with LAPD K9 Officer he was carrying Glock 21SF, with a M3 light attached, said its prefered weaponn of K9 Units, this was last year.

I have known alot of cops, sherriffs, military, border partol and private security. None of whom carry a xd as of yet. Thats why I was shocked to see any kind of officer of the law carry a xd. The main reason I posted this picture, a cop in LA with a xd. I does not matter who it may be, just a xd used in service kind of puts a smile on my face. :)

A friend of mine on Metro carries a 9mm XD. Of course I make fun of him for it every chance I get. Another friend in the academy purchased a .40 XD for his duty gun before they started on firearms quals and apparently the instructors made so much fun of him he switched to a Glock 17.

I carry an XD40 Service for duty. No problems with it yet. I started out with a Glock 22. No problems with it either.

same, XD40. Have had it for over 3yrs now. No problems at all. only cleaning that gets done more than once a year is run a patch thru the barrel after I shoot it(dont like to carry a dirty barreled gun, just more defense in my case if some jackass IAO says I was involved in a shooting when I wasnt).

Ive put about 2000rds thru it before I clean it and have 0 problems. Other than I scratched the hell out of it with the junk factory holster.

No kidding. For the "$80" value they were "giving away" I'd have just preferred they had either (1) gotten in with Blade-tech and put some of the Blade-tech Injection Molded stuff in the package, (2) thrown in an extra magazine or two and skipped the Holster/Pouches/Loader, or (3) just knocked $80 off the price of the gun and kept the crap hardware.

You have to understand that most of the gun-buying public doesn't buy stuff the way guys on this site tend to buy things. To a large chunk of the market the fact that the pistol comes with a holster and mag pouch is HUGE...plus they really do believe that it's an $80 value.

Most of us, of course, wouldn't ever buy that carry gear and we know that it isn't anywhere near an 80 dollar value.

I found no value for that crap. I cant even give it away. My spector holster fits my xd and 92 well. After stepping on it and rolling it like a newspaper for an hour to loosen up the material..

Not to go off topic. I was watching 1000 round tests for glock and xd. All jamming aside. At least I know the guide rod in my xd is not made from plastic, and wont be falling out. The guide rods does not do a whole lot. But just the fact of watching it fall out of a glock before 1000 rounds kinda scares me.

It's funny you should mention that being that the XD factory guide rod is a well known failure point. Well at least it was on early XD's back when I owned one.

Admittedly, I don't care for the XD but if I liked it, I wouldn't give up on it just because someone else didn't care for it. I say if it works for you go with it. To each his/her own.

But then, I don't get wrapped around the axle about all caps either.

Tactical Response melted a Glock guide rod doing a Squad Automatic in a mad minute imitation with a Glock 19 or 17.

It was way beyond what a mere mortal would be able to accomplish with anything less than several hundred rounds dumped in a short order.

The critical point is the Glock doesn't even NEED the guide rod to function. In fact, it continued to function well after it was slagged.

Glock guide rods come with the spring. It is a cheap and semi-expendable item. Easy to stock several.

I was more wondering WTF he meant by "a Glock guide rod doing a Squad Automatic in a mad minute imitation with a Glock 19 or 17"

Comforting to know though about the pistol.
