Just got them in the mail a few days ago, and tonight I had a chance to test them out at the local range. I must say, man these things are great! No sound cutout, water resistant, takes AAA batteries, mp3 hook up capability, slim compact design (to allow proper cheek weld and no broken seals when shouldering a weapon), and extremely comfortable (with the gel cups). This was the best $280 I ever spent for shooting :D I must say though that they would be better suited for outdoor shooting, the indoor range was a little loud (but had no ringing what so ever after blasting 10 rounds of 12ga through my Saiga12). Anyone got a pair? How do you wear them? Buttons on the left or right (mics facing forward or backwards)?

Mics facing forward.

Right on, I wore them with buttons on the left (mics facing forward). For ease of manipulating the buttons with my weak side hand.

If you want to hear what is in front of you, then mics forward. If you want to have a better idea of what is going on behind you then mics to the rear.

For me:
If I am at a public range, I want to know what the goof balls behind me are doing while I am shooting. Thus, mics to the rear.

If I am a student in a class, I want to hear what the instructor is saying while I am on line. Thus, mics to the rear.

If I am teaching a class, I want to hear what the students are doing and saying. Thus mics forward.

Yep when I received mine, I put them on and was wondering why people liked the gel cups so much when the regular cups were comfy. Then I installed the gel cups and put the sordins on and was like, OH that's why:D.

Gel cups are the way to go. I have two pair of the Sordins and they are great.

If it's an indoor range and you have sensitive ears, it might help to double up with some foam ear plugs. The blast is audible but it's comparable to listening to a gunshot in a movie. I hope you enjoy them, I sure as hell enjoy mine. Definitely get the gel cups, I wish I had a couch made of the gel material

I've been wanting to buy a pair for a long time now. Hoping to order some before the end of the year with the gel earcups, good to hear more good things about them before I do.

I ordered mine from SRS Tactical. I balked at the price at first, but they blow the Peltors I had (which blew the boards twice) out of the water.

Are there any dealers on the forum that carry these? I'm in the market for new muffs. My Peltor SwatTacs are 7 years old and in need of replacement...

:)

Crap!! my typing is too slow!!

Time to call Grey Group, I have a small list of things I need there anyway. :D

I got mine from Grey Group, they've been excellent. Grey Group doesn't appear to sell the gel ears, though.

That's ok, I'm too brash and insensitive to get any benefits from soft, cushy ear gels. lol

I have been using the Supreme Pro's for 3 years now and have been extemely happy with them... I have 2 sets and couldn't be happier.

I ran them at a Carbine class last month and they were flawless.:D

Would you say that they work better outdoors than indoors when shooting? I have yet to shoot with them on outdoors...I wonder how they standup to full auto .308 fire.

When I shoot indoors, I always double up. The electronics in the Sordins aren't powerful enough to provide effective hearing in a busy (commercial, public) indoor range. But, they seem to provide a lot more hearing protection than their NPR would suggest. I think it's primarily because they fit so tightly around the head compared to other brands.

Outdoors, they're great. I used them just last weekend while teaching a class and couldn't have been happier. They really are substantially better than the Peltor and Pro-Ears I've used in the past. Just wish I'd switched to them sooner!

The other thing I'd like to see is for Sordin to bring their bluetooth-compatible version to the States. I'd buy a second set in a heartbeat.

wicked -- Thanks for the reminder about GG getting the gels. I'll just wait until they have them.

The work great outdoors when I am behind my .50..... no echo, and no resonance at all...

Cutting out the sound from a FA .308 should be no problem...

This is what i read from another forum

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I spoke with one of Sordin's engineers several years ago regarding the effectiveness of their "ears". The bottom line according to him is that the absolute sound attenuation is directly related to the size of the ear cup and is frequency dependant. In the case of Sordin the maximum attenuation was limited by the size of the ear cup that would fit under a helmet.

Sordins do not provide adequate protection by themselves for long term exposure to high noise levels. They are intended for short term exposure particularly when combined with integrated communication equipment.

I use custom fitted plugs with my Sordins and with the volume at max I can hear range commands over a loud speaker but not much more.`

I had mine on today at the range. Shooting my Benelli M4 with just the Sordins outdoors was ok.

I usually double up indoors(ALWAYS!) and outdoors. Today I was lazy. :p

I might double up with a surefire in my right ear, when I get them in.

The Supreme Pros are a night and day improvement (comfort and performance) over the Peltors I was issued back in the day. They have built one hell of a following here at Bragg locally over the past two years.

I wish I would of had these during my time in the Marines. It would of came in handy during shoot houses and on the rush ranges. Oh well, I got em now for Machine gun shoots with my local gun shop :)

I'm going to try the gel seals. I did notice that when wearing my Oakley M Frames the standard seals don't seal up very well. Will the gel seals help with that?

Ak44
11-02-09, 11:38
I used my sordins with gel seals over my oakley flak jackets. The seal was good enough for me. I think the spongy gel seals will work better than the regular cushion.

Got mine on sale from botach. I want to try these gel seals, the regular ones dont seal with Oakley M frames on, hoping the gels do a better job.

Here is how mine broke after 8 months of daily use. The black plastic head band snapped near the bottom. The broken piece digs into your temple like the claws of Satan :).

Your are my new hero! Might be worth others buying a spare if you use it a lot. When they break, you can't tape it, fix it, or wear it comfortably.

Ak44
11-03-09, 14:43
Was it just normal wear and tear or was it because of wearing a helmet or something else? I might buy a set of sliders just in case...

Iraq Ninja
11-03-09, 15:56
Just wear and not much tear. On, off, on, off, on, off all day I guess. I think it is the action of spreading them apart to put them on that causes this.
