Wondering if anyone had any good suggestions on a good military boot that has a composite toe. Preferably in a tan color....I wore Converse boots in Iraq but was looking for something different. I like the Danner Composite toe TFX boots, any recommendations would be nice.

Belleville 390's hot weather boots. I was issued a pair from RFI back in 04-05 and I have been wearing them ever since. Also I found that sneaky boots aka converse, oakleys, etc are not all that great during a ruck march.

Really? My converse's were great for hikes because when we took 5 min breaks I could take off my boots and put new socks on in a flash with the side zip. I really enjoyed them, I might just say screw it and stick to what I know...Thanks for your post PGPD, that wouldn't stand for Prince George's Police Dept would it?

Oakley SI are comfortable, but they do not hold up very well.

Bellville 590 (USMC app.) are great. Thats the only boot I wear anymore when I have to wear boots. Comfy, durable and offer alot of support. Sock choice is a little criticial if your feet sweat alot.

If I am just using footwear for hard use on my own free time I use some type of Merrill.

Yeah Oakleys are nice apparently the newer boots hold up a little bit better than the previous ones. I like wearing smartwool socks and fox river. I've heard a lot about merrells but most of them are pretty ugly...

I don't know if you can get away with it but i have come to truly love SALOMON boots, by far they are the most comfortable footwear i have owned. they are very rugged, have great traction and pretty weather resistant.
once again if you can get away with it take a look at the Authentic GTX in tan.

I'm no longer active duty so uniformity and such doesn't apply. I'm just looking for some good boots to wear this winter for outdoors and such.

Anyone else here strangely tempted to engineer the worlds first pink bunny combat boot that is comfy, supportive and useful in most any circumstance?? :D

Don't forget the tight weave carbon fiber insoles and Spider Wire laces.

The design is sound, all we need now is a Patent. :D

Landlord, how are the toes on the Asolo's? I like to have a hard toe but not steel. Hence why I like the Stealth boots because of the composite toe.

The converse take the win for me since its hard to find a boot like this with a composite toe... My current daily boots and riding boots as well

The only other recommendation I can make is the Rocky "tac-team" side zip boots...although not a composite toe, the "tread" on them is quite an effective alternative to steel or composite... Makes em more comfortable and I have to compare to....
The Rocky boots are my go to's for training and practice etc...

For regular uniform wear I like the old standby Danner Acadia. I use the non-insulated ones for summer and the 200 insulated ones for winter.

For Tac I really like the Oakley SI but I have found that they don't hold up very well for regular duty use, but they are super comfortable.

If you've already thought about Danner, I vote Danner. Though I don't wear the exact model you're looking at, I imagine you'll be happy with that choice.

I tried a pair of Danners on a recommendation once, and now I'll probably never buy another brand. Comfy right out of the box, can take lots of abuse, and good materials. Just my .02

I'll answer. It's been a few days and Landlord might have missed this. I have those Asolos, among others, and they do not have a soft toe. It is not *heavily* reinforced, but it is fairly protective IMO. They are good kit.

What sort of weather do you tool around in?

MD is retarded for weather, never predictable. More than likely fall/winter boots. Gonna need them for the cold.

Go Danner, your feet will love you for it. If you can wear a lower boot, go to an REI or hiking store and look at hiking boots. I have some Osolo that are great. Often the hikers look a little goofy in color but you can find some that are tamed down.

If you are not needing uniform savvy stuff and aren't going much past the ankle quality light hikers will suit you very well. Especially so on range/course days.

Salomon, Lowa, Asolo, Merrell. Probably others.

They usually have a more 'modern' look but often fit & feel like a running shoe. Built to last. The outdoor gear-tech nerd might be a drawback for some.

For starters:

Merrell Radland or Outlands
Salomon Exit Peak
Lowa Zephyr (these come in beige/desert if that's your thing)
