What do you guys prefer for your SBR cases? I used to have an iShot SERT, which was incredible.... but sold it like an idiot when I had sold my SBR. Now I am in the market and am debating what to get.

Eagle makes a Descreet Case for SBR's... but they are out of stock. I do NOT want an oversize case... so my options are probably limited.

Does anybody have any other SBR length cases they use and like?

Pics and descriptions would be super!

Thanks

This is what I would buy if I wanted a dedicated SBR case and was buying today
1) Eagle Discreet Case (SBR29) LE (http://eagleindustries.com/product.php?productid=697&cat=72&page=1)
or
2) Blue Force Gear DAP Discrete Case (http://www.blueforcegear.com/product.cfm?type=cat&cat_id=11&prod_id=156) plus BFG 10 Spd M4 Mag Pouch Dapper (http://www.blueforcegear.com/product.cfm?type=cat&cat_id=11&prod_id=162)

I really want option 2.

I have one of the Sneaky Bags (http://www.bowerstactical.com/store/sneaky-bag-covert-rifle-bag-small-31in-p-2012.html). It's a good carry around, not look like a gun style bag.

The 30" version fits my 11.5" SBR's about perfect. The gun is pretty secure in the bag, despite it's appearance. One of my buddies grabbed it from my van thinking it was a folding chair.

Do you have pictures of it? I wonder... it sounds like the gun goes in BBL Down, is the BBL tip end padded also or what? Is there some tyype of hard plastic inserts somewhere, which keeps it firm enough? Looks interesting!

Okay, now that we've got the $120+ cases covered, anyone want to talk about ones priced a little better, maybe around $40?

There's no reason that there shouldn't be something a bit more reasonably priced out there.

My vote goes for the Sneaky Bag as well. I bought one for my 10.5 as well as my 16in gun. I would venture to say they only people that would know what is in the bag are people who know what the Sneaky bag is for in the first place, looks nothing like one would expect a "Gun Bag" to look like. The only thing that kinda sucks is the Price, but it is very well made and should last a long time.

Unfortunately I don't have pictures, and I'm out of the country for a while.

The sneaky bag by design isn't a protective case. It's built more as a heavy duty gun specific backpack. The bottom and maybe top have some kind of hard insert to retain the shape and protect the bag from the gun's pointy parts. The inside compartment is NOT very spacious, which keeps the gun from flopping around. The front and back panels are more than just a single layer, and might have something thin in there as well. I haven't really looked that close, and don't remember to be honest. The 31" is big enough for a 11.5" carbine. There is space to have a mag in the gun as well. When it's all zipped up, it holds everything pretty secure. Not pelican case cut foam secure, but it isn't floppy. The main compartment is thin, but still wide enough for a scoutlight in a larue mount on a larue rail. Hard to describe without handling it.

If you liked the i-SHOT SERT, or are looking for a case that will fit SBR / folding stock carbines (or AKs), you may want to take a look at these cases I found:

http://www.condoroutdoor.com/138_micro_dragbag.aspx

http://www.condoroutdoor.com/150_28riflecase.aspx

I don't know where to buy them online, but they are sold in my area at the larger surplus stores. A friend and I both bought the C3 style "138" case, and they were $65 each + sales tax.

The SERT C3 case has very nice construction & is well thought out, but it is expensive. The magazine compartments are also too tight - try to fit a MAGPUL P-MAG, H&K AR mag, or a standard mag with a ranger style floor plate into there, and it's almost impossible to get them in or out. Also, if you move to another platform (AK, FAL, M14, AR-10, etc), then the magazine compartment issue becomes even more of a problem (in my eyes, at least).

The cheap "138" style case has its pluses and minuses too, though; for example:

It's the same size as the C3, while being relatively cheap. The divider on the inside has 2 walls to it, so you have a total of 4 inner compartments for your rifle or upper / lower (or remove it). And you can fit any Molle style pouches to the outside, negating the magazine compartment issue of the i-SHOT case.

The downside to the cheaper "138" style case is that the top closure system is not as well thought out as the i-SHOT case, nor are the backpack style straps. This can probably be fixed with less than $15 or $20 worth of strap material and plastic latches.

Don't get me wrong, I do love the i-SHOT cases - they are beautifully made & very rugged.

You could also look at the TAC-FORCE T.T.S. case here:

http://tac-force.com/tts.aspx

The 26" case is tall enough to fit a folding stock AK diagonally, and has Velcro retention straps on the inside (with additional slots for more straps / locations).

As with anything, you can search around on the web & find them for a more affordable price other than the main website.

Those "discreet" cases are hardly discreet. Even if it were screaming pink fabric, you're not going to fool anyone if you're carrying that while rocking your 5.11 pants pretending that you're a keyboard player with an 80s cover band.

I think you might be surprised. I don't know what it's like where you live, but in my suburban neighborhood nobody knows what's what. I can carry my blue Eagle discrete case and my Rubbermaid Action Packer out to the truck wearing my Woolrich Elite pants and the most I'll get from a neighbor is "hey, going camping?"

For that purpose yes....but a thief breaking into your car will assume anything needing a case must be worth some money.

I just dont leave unattended guns in the car unless I have to. In other words I dont make it a habit.

Ive thought about a lawn and leaf garbage bag to put over a case. It would be big enough to conceal whats inside (case and gun), and people associate trash bags with trash not expensive things needing a case....

And I have a LaRue discreet carry care. It will fit a 10.5" complete easily...my 11.5" can fit but it bulges the sides out and is a little harder to zip up.

i agree with your comments about the magazine compartments; but do bear in mind that it was sized to fit 3 mags in there, not six. when used as intended, PMAGS, standard AR mags with ranger pulls or AK mags fit in without issue. i had actually designed it to be loose, as i also dislike tight mag pouches.
however, when the C3 was finally produced, we found out by accident that six USGI mags could be stuffed in there, but were very tight of course.
again, the mag compartments on the C3 were designed to be a loose fit with one mag per slot, not two. when used as intended/designed, you should have less of an issue.
an AK with folding stock will fit the C3, as will 3 AK mags, but platforms like the FAL and M14 are a moot point as none of them will fit the C3.

Back to the higher priced options, you could get a 5.11 Select Carry pack (http://www.qmuniforms.com/Product/511-select-carry-sling-pack/P3566/300201). My 11.5" AR won't fit, but the 7.5" upper will, as will the 5.5" 9mm upper. Look around and you can find a better price than the one shown at the link posted.

It was obviously designed for something the size of an SMG, or very short SBR. The Uzi or an MP5 would work well, as would a Krink AK folder.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/GarrettJ/Select%20Carry%20case/100_0874a.jpg

Actually, I've found that if I put the 11.5" upper on a pistol lower, the buffer tube just hangs out the bottom, looking like a tennis racket, or something similarly benign.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/GarrettJ/Select%20Carry%20case/100_0880.jpg

A 7.5 fits, but you wouldn't want anything longer than an A2 flash hider, and this is a little slower to remove due to the length than something a little shorter. I'm half tempted to just get a muzzle nut to cover the threads and not add any length to the barrel if I were to pack this around in the bag.

The thing is durable, and carries well. It has a wide padded shoulder strap that is comfortable to use. I used this to lug my gear around for the Knob Creek subgun match. It is well made and worked very well, even though I had it packed completely full with gun, ammo, mags & gear.

I also use an Eagle case, that I think was in the $80 range. It will fit the 11.5" gun assembled, or can hold a 16" AK underfolder.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/GarrettJ/DSC03352.jpg

The ever popular tennis racket bag actually works pretty well too, and you can find a good padded racket bag for $20-$40 if you look around.

I just measured mine last night. With the flash hider installed, the 7.5" gun has an OAL of 23" with the stock collapsed. I don't think a 26" gun would fit. What kind of flash hider / brake do you have on the gun? You might have to change it out for use with this bag.

There's no reason that there shouldn't be something a bit more reasonably priced out there.

what do you want - well built? or discreet?

well built:

http://www.midwayusa.com/mediasvr.dll/image?saleitemid=972872

this well built 35" case is on sale now for around $35 at MidwayUSA. I have one and it is well built. it handles two 16" middies with collapsing stock and 6 mags.

discreet:

http://hellokittyjunkie.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/21_fender_hello_kitty_gig_bag.jpg

this is known as a guitar "gig" bag. I have one that came on my son's student guitar. it does not have Hello Kitty on it but actually says "Squire by Fender." it is not as sturdy but only cost $16 and it holds the same 16" barreled middy with collapsing stock. it has an exterior pocket that can hold 4 mags but they rattle around loosely.

If you're talking about the last picture, the case was made by Eagle. (BTW, that's an M11/9. The top picture shows an Uzi :D)

I bought 6 or 8 years ago from C&S Metal Works (http://www.csmetall-werkes.com/) near St. Louis. They told me it was designed for the MP5. I have seen several similar cases since, but not one like it. The closest I could find was something like these (http://www.eagleindustries.com/product.php?productid=357&cat=67&page=1).

Does anyone have experience with BLACKHAWK? I see they make a 29" Discreet Case... that might work.

Yes, I use one. Pricey but fantastic. The full-length accessory pocket is fully lined with loop velcro and it comes with a 3-mag pouch. Plenty of room in the acc. pocket to add a maxpedition-type velcro universal holster for pistol as well.

Here's a very outdated pic, but you get the dimensions. That's a 7.5" upper with a Levang on it. Should fit a 10.5 or even 11.5" as well as long as you don't put a flaming pig on the end...

I like the square shape and the fact that it doesn't have mag flaps on the outside. Very sleek when closed up.

I carry one of my krinks in a small Tac Force brand case that resembles a laptop case.

Blue Force Gear case with 7.3 VSBR. These are great and can be folded in half for storage.

I also have this weird case that was designed to house a GPS antennae that I use to carry my AKS-74U however I dont have any pics. It kinda resembles a modern style diaper bag or manny-pack.

Cheers

Is the FDE case on the bottom the Blue Force Gear DAP 28" Discreet Case?

I really like this one b/c it's soft and light:

Plenty of room in there for a suppressor or 2 also... :)

That's a pretty nice one. Who makes that one?

I don't know what a commercial SRT is, but if you look at the pics in the article, I have a LaRue 12" Stealth with a Surefire flash hider attached (A2 flash hider is 1.75" ... the Surefire flash hier is 2.32"), and it fits in the case without an issue.

I can get an OAL of the LaRue for you later today

I received one of the Sneaky Bags a couple of weeks ago, and I'm really liking it. Purpose-built but totally nondescript, and it includes a dedicated space where you can carry a mini-Sneaky shoulder bag. Great total grab-n-go solution.

Wanted to update this with a proper link
http://www.originalsneakybags.com/Small_Covert_Rifle_Bag.html

I got the small, and it is damn near purpose built for my Colt 6933.

Will be updating my site with more on this as time allows.

I don't see what's so discreet about the discreet rifle bags. They're big and long and, well, gun-shaped.

I live in a large city, so I use tennis raquet bags like the below. They offer the same padding as a gun bag, and hold just as many accessories without looking suspicious. They carry well and can be reconfigured with some foam or MOLLE inserts. Plus, they're a fraction of the price of tactical bags.

Dick's Sporting Goods has a variety of sizes. Just bring a tape measure with you when you go.

not eactly the size you want a 25 or 32 but cheap, I have a case from them not bad at all sure there is better but price is right, mine is 2 years old nothing wrong with it and has served me well

+1 for the UTG 25" cases. 25.00 shipped from ebay and mine work well w/the shorty uppers. No wear or problems after 14 months..

After reading this post about a month ago, and reasearching all the links provided, I went with the 30" Sneaky Bag. It's expensive compared with a lot of other options given here, so it took me a few days to decide to actually make the purchase.

After a month of carrying it from my patrol car to my apartment every day, I absolutely love it. It is a spot-on perfect fit for my 11.5" SBR, and no one looks twice at it, since it looks like a hiking pack when its slung over my shoulder.

If you can justify the extra money for it I highly reccommend it. If not this post has a lot of great options listed.

On a lark, I stopped by my office today and asked the guys in the shipping room for an extra Dell Laptop bag. They are sending laptops back all the time and handed me a new bag.

I just finished an AR 9mm SBR build (w/ TROS 5" Barrel) and when separated - it eerily fits in the bag just fine with the suppressor removed. It has padded area (laptop section) for the upper with scope mounted and the lower fits just fine in the section for papers. The accessory pocket on the front even has ready made sections for can and mags.

It's about as ubiquitous a look as they come and the price was right. Sorry for the lame carpet pics, but you get the idea.

BTW - I like the Tennis Racket Case idea, that is really good!

It's designed as a laptop case and most people think it is. Here is one with an 8 1/2"x11" notepad on it for scale. It also has a integral lock. It wont keep someone out with a screwdriver, but nosy people cant open it.

Yes, it's a 10.5. I've got some new foam, just need to cut it out for my 11.5. ll.5 is pretty much max for this case size. I have almost no room at the ends of the upper for foam. I paid 129 for the case from optics planet. I've heard you need to call first to make sure it is in stock, I did and had no trouble. Pick one up, its a great little case.

Another vote for the Sneakybag here.

I have the smallest model, which will (just barely) accomodate the 31 inch OAL of my 14.5" barreled carbine. The rifle doesn't even remotely print in the bag, either.

I'd like to see a different shoulder strap system, and maybe a nylon handle taked onto the side of the bag. Otherwise, it's GTG.

I agree. I have been doing that for last couple of years and it is perfect. If anyone who knows anything about guns see you walking down the street, or the case sitting in your car, they are going to know you have a gun (or at least something valuable), people are smarter then they look. Buy a cheap tennis bag, scuff it up a little to make it look old and unimportant, and it makes a great street carry or car case. They make great bug out bags as well!

I'm really diggin el guapo's case as well.

I disagree, people are not smarter than they look. Most people, including "gun people" don't really pay attention to anything unless it has a brand name on it or you're walking into a range.

And while I certainly like the Pelican case approach trading the value of firearm versus computer really doesn't put you at less risk of theft. Actually it's more a matter of where you are, the time you're there and who needs a buck.

A bag or case of any type denotes value. If it wasn't valuable you wouldn't be protecting it so I go with protect it properly with as little overt display as possible. The Castle Rock bag resembles a folding chair as much as anything else and provides proper usable protection.

But then again it's just an opinion. ;)

I agree with time and place being a big factor, my point was just that it is less attractive for someone to want to steal, "Since it's probably just some old crappy tennis racquets".

I have and use a few of the TacForce, Eagle, and Bull Dog cases listed in this thread so far and they are great cases, But I also think that there are many creative ways to transport or store your firearms for much cheaper. Use whatever works best for you.

What a great thread. I was just searching the net for a bag I could put my AR-15 pistol in to hide but have quick access in the car. If you are not looking for protection, just discretion. People almost universally recognize that this is a folding chair. They are generally not suspicious of those carrying them, and rarely break into cars to steal them.

Both of these cases are very well made and made here in America. The sneaky bag is my new choice. It offers more storage and looks less like a rifle bag. The bottom pouch in the sneaky bag holds an Eagle bandoleer with 4 Pmags and 2 Glock 22 mags.

Yes I dont have the exact size code in front of me but it is the small one. I want to get the medium next and there is a large but I don't need the large one. The bag is very well thought out and made really well. Both bags have great straps. The BFG has the strap attached at opposite sides of the bag so the bag stays steady and does not roll or flip as you carry it. The sneaky bag carries the rifle very well muz down. There is a pouch at the top that I have laminated color copies of my tax stamps in. I carry another set in my other case. The Sneaky Bag screams quality. You can not tell from the photos but the zippers are very rugged and the pull tabs for the zippers are huge. No need to add a para cord pull tab like my old Uncle Mikes cases.

Both companies have some non tactical colors. I brought my Sneakybag into my local gun shop and asked my best friend/owner what he thought it was. He gave me a funny look and had no idea. That was a big plus for me. He is a gun guy and knows me well and he had no idea.
