I'm a big guy about 6'04 and wear 5 xl t-shirts and a 60 in a sport coat, I would like some suggestions from other big guys as to what slings they are using.

Basically what sling manufactures offer a lot more sling to accommodate for extra girth.

I have shot with a cheapo single point on an AR pistol in the past and was thinking maybe a 3 point would be the way to go for a 16 inch M4 platform.

any recommendations for type of sling for large chest and back ??

thanks guys :)

Blue Force Gear Vickers Combat Applications Sling (VCAS).

I'm wookie sized, and the Vickers slings have proven to work very, very well with me. They're adjustable two pt. slings. Get a sling attachment point for the front that attaches to the left side of the rail at the front, or near the receiver, you'll just have to try the different positions out and see what works for you.

You run the rear attachment point through the slot in the buttstock with the buckle on the right side keeping things together.

i'm in love with the three osoe slings i have. i have the single point, dual point, and dual point convertable bungee slings. they rock out. plenty of adjustment room.

Have you actually run them in a class or at work? How do the bungee jobs do with movement?

I go about 6' tall and about 285lbs and the Magpul MS2 sling works perfectly for me... if you can find one that is. 1pt or 2pt works just fine.

You might consider putting your front sling swivel closer to the receiver instead of at the FSB - that will give you some extra length. Have you considered a machine gun sling? They are often longer than rifle/carbine slings.

Maybe I have the wrong guy, but aren't you skinny like me? If so, wouldn't it be better to let the big boys help rent with his gear?

rent, good to see you over here. I'm sure these guys will square you away, and while I've never met Templar he seems to be about your size from pictures I've seen of him and from what I remember of you. Of course, if you've been loading up on pizza and bear since last I saw you then all bets are off! :D

I 2nd what someone else said about sling point. This is where my front sling point is in 2pt and it makes a difference. It also just 'feels' better to me.

thanks Rob, I was gonna PM you on this as I respect your knowledge, I have never been a sling guy mainly cause I could never see myself fitting in one......

I have used a single pt in the past and wasn't really happy with it, still felt like I was getting choked ??

I mainly wanted the rifle to sit close in on my chest about 5-6 inched under my chin, but still be able to swing it around the back if I needed it out of the way like to bend over and pick up a dropped mag or something.

The two point adjustables like the BFG Vickers and the Viking Tactics are great for this because you can let them out and take them in on the fly.

I'm 6'2" and in the 250lb range, and wide at the shoulders. My chest size is around a 52.

After trying a pile of different configurations, I found that a 2 point sling attached at the front of the receiver and far back on the stock works best for me. I like the non-padded Vickers slings, and I have about an extra foot of length I could add to the sling if needed. I also need to keep the sling fairly loose as pulling up on a target makes the sling pull tight if I don't have the adjustments set right.

I like the Viking Tactics sling from a comfort standpoint. But the tail kept getting in my way when wearing the sling so that it fit well with me. I'd grab the tail along with a mag and try to shove both in the gun. After a few hours of fighting that sling I switched back.

I tried a few single point slings, but never warmed up to them.

This is a picture by USMC03 from a course this spring. The rear of the sling is attached to the QD mount on a CTR stock. This sling adjusts easily for the situations, and I only use about the first half of it's adjustment range, unless I'm shooting in the snow wearing a parka.

Just my experiences after going through a small box full of slings.

You are taller than me but my "jacket size" is a two sizes larger than yours! :o Go with the Troy two point sling. It is actually too big if anything. You could simply cut the extra webbing. It is simple and effective. I had a three point Mamba, I would stay away from the 3 point sling, go withe a two point. It is also padded. And it is made in AMERICA!

Hey man thanks for making me smile! I once had an instructor tell me she was going to leave her shield behind and just follow me through the door.

I'm pretty sure the group I shoot with keeps me around for cover. :D

I just wanted to update my post, and ask what you ended up with for a sling?

I have the Troy 2 point on my gun and a padded Vickers Blue Force on my work gun. I like the Vickers better. The Troy’s pad slides around and it is way to big for me, if you knew me that would make you laugh because nothing is ever too big on me. The Troy has tons of adjustment. I have electrical tape on the sling in several places to hold the extra webbing in place. The Blue Force I have does not have the QD buckle like the Troy, I plan to pick one up, and that will add more length to the sling.

I just finished "Lone Survivor" great book. I keep thinking about how Marcus lost most of his gear as he jumped and fell down a mountain, including his sling. Not sure what he had for a sling but it makes me think a QD sling attachment is much more likely to fail. I'm not going to be jumping down mountains with a SEAL team any time soon; I think the ability to quickly detach myself from my long gun is a good idea. Being "wookie" sized I might get hung up some where.:D
