I doubt it. The 14.5's will generally be LE only or be a registered SBR.

I am sure there will be a 16", 18" and maybe a 20". Remember that you can use any barrel you want. So if you want a 14.5 you can install one yourself.

I imagine if they want to register guns as SBR's and you have the form 1 approved thatyou could order a complete 14.5 from them. I would be surprised if they went to all this trouble though.

I personally hope that they will offer the weapon to dealers with NO barrel so we can put in whatever the customer likes.

Grant- since these are 1 year or more out, can we make this pre-order list work differently than the P-mag one in that we won't have to remember to come back and look at the thread? :p

Seriously, are you making a real list and I'd like you to let us know the moment you think you can start taking deposits- I understand, probably not until a month or so before a confirmed delivery but I'd like to know...

I will most likely contact each person on this list as they start to come out to get a deposit.

I would also suggest turning on "thread subscription" so that you don't miss updates/news. This is the best and easiest way for me to contact many people at once.

Why the Eotech on a LaRue? I'm really hoping we won't need LaRue mounts or any sort of risers for an Eotech- at least I thought we wouldn't have to because of how much lower the stock is (sort of.) That combined with the cheek rest made me think the rail would be closer to our natural height for an optic...

Perhaps they just wanted it to be quick-detach with return zero? Would be handy on prototype that might be getting lots of varying testing.

7KOPPER,
Thanks for the vid. Glad to see the project progressing.

DrDrake

LOKNLOD is exactly correct. Our optics get bounced around. There is no need for the riser excluding zero repeat and QD. The Masada rail height is close to an AR.

National Firearms Act (NFA) Configuration Questions (Machineguns, Short-Barreled Rifles):

Masada™: Will the Masada be made in a select-fire version?

Yes. The select-fire Masada™ features a proprietary auto-sear that is not compatible with the standard M16. The fire selector has a standard 90 degree throw to the semi-auto position identical to the M16. The fully-automatic position is accessed with a further 30 degrees of travel. This combination ensures a good combination of safety and the ability to access fully-automatic firepower when necessary.

Masada™: Can I buy a select-fire (full-auto) Masada™?

The select-fire Masada™ is available ONLY to qualified buyers. The select-fire Masada™ is classified as a “machine-gun” under the National Firearms Act (26 USC 5845 (b)). As such it is subject to NFA transfer and possession regulations (27 CFR 479).

Masada™: Is there a transferrable, select-fire (full-auto) Masada™ available for civilians?

No. The Masada™ is a completely new weapon platform and was not produced prior to May 19, 1986. The select-fire Masada™ is considered a “post-86 dealer sample” and is only available to military, law-enforcement and qualified dealers.

Masada™: Are short-barreled (< 16” barrel length) Masada™ rifles available for civilians?

Short-barreled versions of the Masada™ are available ONLY to qualified buyers. The short-barreled Masada™ is classified as a “short-barreled rifle” (18 USC 921). As such it is subject to NFA transfer and possession regulations (27 CFR 479).

Masada™: Can the Masada accept a 3-Round Burst Mechanism?

An optional three-round burst mechanism is tentatively planned for the Masada. This may or may not require the use of proprietary parts and will ONLY be made available to military, law enforcement and qualified dealers in accordance with NFA transfer and possession regulations (27 CFR 479).

I'm seeing a lot of people asking for a lot of options that I've never seen listed.

AFAIK, the forend has threaded inserts for attaching the rail portions that it will come with.

Also, they will be sold as complete rifles.

Greetings, Well, I can appreciate this very much, but if I am going to spend $ 1400.00 plus dollars on a rifle, I kinda want the color & barrel length of my choosing. I am pretty sure by the time these new rifles are ready for sale in june, july, aug, the various colors & barrel lengths should be available & if you can order me one I would be very appreciative.... If not then I will wait.

Thanks ! and Merry Christmas :)

I'm just guessing that we all have two options- get there first and get what we can or wait a little while and get what we want.

In the end, I hope everyone is happy with what they get.

They will probably all be 16" right away- there auto response told me SBRs will be available to designated individuals. They are probably going to make most attainable to most people to start. I had asked some of these questions in my email but they weren't all addressed.

Like any good company, Magpul is going to build the weapon that allows them to fill the most orders. This of course would be a 16" weapon in black.

I would like to believe that they will do OD, FDE and Black with different barrel lengths at the same time, but this just isn't realistic IMHO.

I wanted FDE and an SBR but when I realized that would just take sooo much longer I decided I'd be happy with a 16" black.

Shorter barrels will be available later. No sense in delaying a transfer to me by a month or more just for an SBR now.

You'll be happy to hear that the first batch will be 16". Magpul, IMHO won't do anything as silly as pin a FH on but you can supposedly use any AR barrel so the rest is up to you!

And, a 14.5" pinned FH isn't as important on one of these as it is on an M4 clone so you'll be happy with a 16" as will I.

From Bushmaster Release

Bushmaster Firearms International, LLC (BFI) announced today that it has signed an exclusive license deal with Magpul Industries Corp. for the production, future development, and sales of Magpul’s prototype MASADA weapon system.

The Bushmaster ACR (Adaptive Combat Rifle) will initially be offered in 5.56 NATO, available for law enforcement and civilian purchase second quarter 2008. This release will be followed by military ACR versions in the 3rd quarter of 2008.

Without government funding or outside influence of any kind, the Masada concept was developed from scratch in Boulder, Colorado by Magpul’s Design Group. The Masada concept was first shown publicly at the 2007 Shot Show and its success prompted Magpul to spend a year redesigning the system for production.

The result is the ACR (Adaptive Combat Rifle) which keeps the fundamentals of the Masada concept with added advanced features such as firing pin block and true ambidextrous charging handle.

Among the ACR’s key features are a gas piston operating system, tool-less quick change barrel, multi-adjustable folding stock with integrated storage, and backward compatibility with a number of AR15/M16 parts. Due to similar operating controls, user transition from the M16 series of weapons is easily facilitated with minimal re-training.

The Bushmaster ACR will initially be available in 3 SKUS: Standard Carbine with fixed stock, Entry Carbine with folding stock, and Special Purpose Rifle with Precision Rifle Stock. Live fire demonstration and test and evaluations beginning in the end of March to qualified law enforcement, federal government agencies.

This is for ordering not whining.

We may or may not stock them as I have no real vehicle to order ANY BM products other than going through a Distr. of their's (like everyone else does). So the chances of me being able to order 50 or so at a time is just about nill I think.

I cannot assure anyone about anything at this point. We should know a lot more after shot.

I'll stay on the list for now, I want to see how this turns out, I guess this was just to far over magpul’s head for now? Or maybe they got offered a good deal of money for the design...

There is a guy here in town I went to high school with, his father owned a very popular chain of grocery stores, his father sold out and made a fortune and gave his son some money to invest in a business, Gold’s gym bought him out and he went and opened up a bigger and better gym...

Well thanks anyway. This is real fustrating. I felt that the first anouncement for Civies first followed up with LE sales was a sign that Bushmaster/Magpul was commited to this as a civiy product (unlike Colt and HK) first and foremost. Then Magpul posted on another site (TOS) that "bushmaster, as a company, has always had a committment to LE/military first ". Then Bushmaster releasted this "Thank you for your interest...ACR will be available to select parties in 2009". That is when I emailed them and got this LE/Military=select parties.

At least FN is catering to our interests, too bad their rifles are still going for $4k+ in gunbroker. A year or so back I would have never guessed I would see a SCAR in civy hands before a Masada...

True enough. Not to take a swipe at the boys in Boulder, because they did what they had to do to give this thing a realistic chance at production, but it would seem that the intended customer base has been redefined a bit the process. I'm quite sure that MMI always had the intention making the Masada viable for official agency trials and fielding, but my early impression was that they were also very aware of the potential for a renewed AWB, and as such were committed to gettting the Masada into the hands of the people.

Corporate realities being what they are, it would seem that the creators have now been overruled on that last point. I'm pragmatic enough to see the method behind the madness, of course, but I do think it is worth reiterating that official agency procurement of the ACR will always be possible, whereas the prospect of private ownership may be comprised before we ever even get the chance to write our checks. That isn't a criticism, but if may be an unfortunate sign of the times, and no matter how you slice it, we lose. Here's hoping that Remington is able to accommodate a more enlightened distribution policy once the ACR enters full production ... and preferably soon.
