Hit me up, too if you don't mind. Very interested as well. Back to pic thread. After much deliberation, 3 different optic choices, I decided to KISS this rifle and run straight irons. Rifle weighs in at just over 7.5 lbs. Love it!

For a guy with that many Magpul stickers on your stuff (), you really don't have all that much Magpul gear. I see a MOE or MIAD grip, some PMAGs, and a MS2 setup but everything else is VLTOR, KAC, TangoDown, and some other rear BUIS manufacturer.

7.5" Various Parts.
I did have the Magpul BAD lever on it however I couldnt get the gun to charge with the lever on so it came off!
Alright, I finally got it the way I want (minus a Magpul BAD lever) AND got to sight it in this morning. Actually I just got it real close @ 50yrds but I still need to fine-tune @ 100yrds.
I really like the Aimpoint but I didn't really do any quick shooting with it this morning; it was all bench (bed of Truck) shooting. I also like my new ADh-68 mount very much. I was thinking of putting my Eotech back on this rifle but I'm not so sure that now I won't just keep this set up.

What length is your barrel? Is that an AAC SPR/M4 muzzle device?

Yeah its the AAC SPR/M4 mount, just waiting for my Form4 to clear for the can itself.
Its a Daniel Defense 12.5" standard profile with the pinned gas block.

Is you rail 9"?
Sorry for the questions but I have a SPR/M4 on it's way, month and a half in, and I am wanting to do the SBR thing too. I'd like to go 11.5" barrel but I don't think a 9" rail will work. I am thinking 12.5" barrel with 9" DD LITE rail. Just trying to get an idea of the look and length of that.
Thanks

Yes 9" Centurion Rail
Ive seen 11.5"s with the SPR/M4 but it requires lo-pro gas block and a 7" rail.
You are further ahead than me, the check for the stamp for my SPR/M4 hasn't been cashed yet
Very nice, Saw! Does the spr M4 mount make the barrel 16 inches or is it shorter?
Thanks man!
14.25" according to my math.
12.5 for the barrel and 1.75 for the mount according to AAC.

Thanks for the reply. My check was cash on 5/20. I'm really just hoping 4 more weeks. I can handle that. I'm getting started on my SBR paperwork Monday. I should have just. Done them both at the same time.

Thanks man. Did you see where the ATF is assigning examiners by state now? Ours handles Florida, Alabama and I think Tennessee.

I heard something about that but don't know who our examiner would be. I really don't want to be checking the status every couple weeks or whatever, when it gets here it gets here. Now if 4 months go by and I don't have anything I will call, lol.
Of the two checks one was cashed the 16th, but I do not know which one as they somehow did it electronically so I cannot view the front of the check with the bank, so I do not know if it was the one for the SBR, or the can. Hopefully the other one is cashed this week.

This upper came today… LMT MK18
The Triple Tap is my last one and is being sold. I'll go to a flash hider or a Blackout 51t for my Mini4 that i'm waiting on, then I'm not sure about the light. I'll probably be going to a regular pressure switch between rails and also switch the rear sight to KAC.

What length is your barrel? I was told today by local armorer and a LEO that AAC Mini's shouldn't be used on barrels shorter than 14.5". I've read differently on forums and threads here, but wasn't in an experienced position to say differently. They both said the SBR would burn up the Mini. I think they are fos!

No, the mini4 is fine on the 10.5" barrel. I'm never really looking for quiet with suppressors, I'm looking for something that cut the blast down and bring the noise down a bit particularly for home defense and shoot houses.
Thanks for your second post!

Yep. I read this originally. When I mentioned I wanted to mount a Mini4 on my 11.5", the dude and LEO said bad idea. They seemed pretty convinced I would trash the can in no time at all. I have to side with Jason and say its GTG on an 11.5".
When I return, I'll have to ask where he is getting his info from. You know what the say about opinions, they are like a$$ holes. Everybody has one and this dude has two!!!! :D

All of my issued mags are either the HK's or Okay Ind./Colt marked aluminum's with the new tan follower.
It's very rare that a Big Army unit will issue PMAGs.

My 10.5" SBR on the right, I built it with superb reliability, less fouling and less heat in mind and also wanting it to eat whatever kind of ammo I give it.
The upper has a Sabre Defense 10.5" Chromed lined barrel, Spikes Tactical free float rail, Magpul AFG, Magpul BUIS, Levang Linear Comp, surefire weapon light, Adams Arms piston retro fit kit along with bolt carrier, and Fail Zero bolt. The lower consists of Essential Arms lower with standard LPK, Magpul oversized trigger guard, Magpul BADS and KNS anti rotation pins, and a Hogue pistol grip with optic batteries inside.. For the optic, it has an Aimpoint Comp M2. This is my primary HD weapon and SD weapon I carry around in my truck and usually on me at all times depending what part of South Texas I am venturing in to. It will be lugging around a suppressor as well one day. :D
I also have, that is not pictured. a 7.5" upper for my SBR lower. It is pretty basic, typical run of the mill stuff nothing special. It has a Vortex SPARC and ,Magpul rear BUIS and pinned front sight block along with a stream light weapon light. I use this strictly for fun ....and fun it sure is!!

Hey man, how do you like that new(ish) Surefire flash hider? Yours is the first I've seen actually installed on a gun.
I literally installed mine just a few hours ago. Not sure when I'll get to the range with it. Definitely want to make a night trip to the range with it though!
Did you have any problems initially mounting your SF 212 can on this FH attachment? It took me a while to wear enough of the finish off of it on that sweet spot that's on all SF suppressor attachments where it forms a shiny ring. Finally just gave it a hard smack on the muzzle and it went into place so I could finally turn the locking ring to lock it into place. Now it slides on, locks into place, unlocks, and slides off MUCH easier. But I don't recall having that issue with my other 5 or so SF muzzle brakes and flash hider attachments.
Btw your SCAR overall looks awesome as shit!!!
First off, it's a pleasure to answer your question as I am grateful for the sacrifices you have made for our country.
I have a 212, a 5.56 mini, and a 7.62 mini on order currently. The only can I have installed on mine thusfar is a buddy's 212. He also has the same mount I do. We didn't experience any issues getting the can on. This flash hider came highly recommended for SBRs from one of the guys at Surefire. I am sure their muzzle brake mount is probably the most stable, but I need to be able to shoot these guns unsuppressed as well. A muzzle brake is a no-go for me at all. I've been blessed with a great little feature called "frequent fucking migraines" and a muzzle brake on an SBR brings on an instant head pounding for myself, so I chose this adaptor. It does work great at night, of course I have been a fan of the BE Meyers flash hider for a while, so it was a given this adaptor would go on the SCAR.
Btw, I saw a vid of you guys shooting at a night vision shoot on youtube. Would you like me to send you one of my original meyers flash hiders to try out and compare at your next shoot? If so pm me your addy.
Stay safe,
Chad

I am currently running the subject SF flash hider on both my Noveske 10.5" switch block and 10.0" SCAR 16S CQC. I switched them out from the MB556K and contrary to your experience; mine locked up with ease right away. The MB556k that was previously mounted on my SCAR must have had extremely tight tolerances as it was always difficult to don and doff. As you would expect when firing unsuppressed, the new FH does not mitigate as much recoil as the MB but is much more forgiving to those around the shooter. I have not shot either at night to compare flash.

Had a extra 16in Bushmaster carbine barrel laying around from a REALLY OLD build. Had the barrel cut down to 10.5 and rethreaded/crowned. Seeing as I've run into some financial rough spot with work being slow, I wanted a upper for my Form 1'd lower(which is the lower that the 16in barrel came on)and since its filled out as a 10.5in any I figured what the hell, and to get some living money I'm moving my 12.5 BCM upper. This 10.5 is actually pretty decent for a Bushmaster barrel. Accuracy is good with my 68gr BTHP, I can put 15 outta 20 hits on to a 2/3rd size IPSC steel target at 400 with the ACOG I have on it for the time being. The chamber is a true 5.56, had it verified by a few different Smiths.

Decided to go with old simple ruggedness for this car gun. DD lightweight CFH 11.5" bbl, Colt carry handle on a BCM upper receiver wrapped arround a LMT BCG pushing a H2 buffer. The only changes I made to the "stock" gun were the grip and the addition of a IWC swivel socket in the handguard and a modified ASAP endplate.

Had the rifle coated by Lawmen's. It's their cerakote finish in flat dark earth. Depending on the light, the color seems to change. The finish is smooth and even all the way around. It matches up very well with Magpul FDE furniture. Haven't shot it yet because I am still waiting on my stamp. I have delivered this to a friend with a registered lower for safe keeping. :( I'll post a report when I have one.

Do you have the AP that far forward so you can have space for NODs behind it?
Or do you just prefer it that far forward?
How is the balance of the gun affected with it mounted there?
Nice setup btw!

Thanks. I did a bunch of reading and decided it was a good balance with shortness and ballistics. Also doesn't hurt that an SPR/M4 (reflex can) would mount right up to the 9.5" hand guard.
Here it is with an 11.5" barrel.

Actually, I sent off my barrel nut to DD (and wrench, for a replacement) the same day I received the barrel so nothing is holding the rail there except the AP. It was just a mock up of what it would look like. Normally it would be a notch or two behind the gap. I haven't handled it much because I don't want to stress the mount and/or receivers without a solid lockup.
Thanks!

No, the T1 has been on there for about a month and the VCAS probably a couple months. Just dug it outta the safe a while back and started messing with it again.
LAV did inspire me to cut down the front sight hood, which turns out is almost a necessity with the low mount T1(just sighted in the Aimpoint yesterday).

Its a DPH Original Skeleton Stock. I'm not sure about a sling yet. I have a Magpul MS2 and a Spec Ops single point laying around. But until I get my hands on this I will not know. Not sure when it will be shipped. It was supposed to be in it final stages this week. Dan said he should be taking it back out to the range for the final test fire. They've had it since Feb of this year. So I'm ready to get my hands on it. Buuuuuuuuuuuut.....once it arrives, it will sit at my class3 dealer until my stamp gets back.
Was going to be a lightweight, but ultimately came in at 6 lb 4 oz. Oh well.

LOL...my 10.5" LWRC weighs almost 9 pounds w/ an Aimpoint H1! I want to build another upper for it, but like yours to save some weight...
That Benelli is slick. I'd like to hear more about it. Performance is reliable with the barrel cut?
And how do you like the 7.5" Noveske?
The benelli was a gift from my dad over ten years ago. It used to be, and, still is my hunting/wing shooting gun. Just turns out that I had a lot more time to hunt when I was in high school and college. Gotta work too much nowadays (bag head).
Anyways it's original 26" barrel had seen several thousand rounds and a few hundred hours of walking for Quail in Texas brush country and sitting in salty duck blinds. It had rust spots, nicks, dings, a missing front bead sight, etc. So I sawed it off to 18.5", had the muzzle "trued" at my house and bought a new barrel with a raised sight rib which I liked more for hunting. Kept the shotty fitted with the shorter barrel for HD and had the hunting barrel for...ummm...hunting. It functioned flawlessly even with the shorter barrel, even with reduced recoil loads. Never had a misfire in the gun. EVER. Not throughout it's thousands of rounds!
Since then I got familiar with NFA paper work and rules, so I went shorter. I sawed it off to 12" and again had it trued. It still shoots alright patterns...about 1 ft at 5-10 yards and 3 ft at 30 yards. Cool for me for HD. But it no longer cycles reduced recoil loads or cheap bird shot. A little perturbed about that, but oh well, at least I know what it doesn't like.
I fitted it with a Mesa tactical clamp and QD swivel attachment (pictured)for a sling(pic'd) and a short rail for the surefire X300 (pictured). All very nice for HD. But then the benelli forend didn't fit with the mesa clamp, so I used the foam from my Spikes AR pistol buffer tube to suit as a forend (also pictured). Whole set up works perfectly, and I extremely happy with it.
The AR SBR is all DD besides the noveske barrel and flash hider. It has about 1100 rounds in it and no problems at all. Even shooting the cheap stuff, this thing is a fun, accurate, plinker. It was originally built as a pistol, hence where the foam from the pistol buffer tube came from for my benelli SBS forend. But naturally, it shoots so much better as an SBR. I love it too. Cost lots o dough, Eotech XPS-3 and Troy BUIS, way over kill for my skill, but it's my way and I like it that way.

I run a Larue FUG for a foregrip and a T1 Micro instead of your aimpoint but otherwise extremely close.

Thanks for the compliment. It's actually a TA33H 3x ACOG. It is VERY fast at close range, but doesn't handle CQB as well as an Aimpoint. It does allow me to reach out to 400 yards pretty easily however. With this rifle and this optic a 12"^2 plate is child's play at 300 yards.
I agree, the SOPMOD is my favorite too, especially with the longer rail. I ran this gun as a MOD0 for years, and recently switched to a MOD1 setup. I love the balance, but it is a heavy setup compared to the MOD0. I have done everything I can to drop as many ounces as I can from the weight.
I was using a MIAD, a CTR with an upgraded butt pad, troy sights, FUG, etc. The gun got fat...fast. Going to the SOPMOD, A2, MOE trigger guard, KAC sights, etc. really helped the the weight and the balance now is excellent. I think I will grind off the A2 bump, but honestly I spent so long firing M16A2s and M4s in the Army that it feels like shaking hands with an old friend.
I used to use the FUG, but the weight penalty is not worth it to me. I still prefer the an actual vertical foregrip over anything else, and the Magpul VFG is the best I have found, followed closely by the KAC VFG (Magpul mounting >> KAC mounting).

LOL, I knew it was a damn ACOG, I had no idea I wrote Aimpoint until reading your response. Don't know what possessed me on that one.
Same here on the Mod 0 to Mod 1 on my gun. I've got a MIAD on mine as well. I actually just got done stippling it in a tree bark pattern. I absolutely can't stand the A2 grip.
I've tried the KAC handstop but, like you, I just need the VFG, it lets me work the gun a lot better.

I am not sure if you can tell on mine, but that short section of KAC rail cover is heavily stippled as well. I am thinking about grinding off the bump and stippling the A2.
Thanks a lot, it's got a KAC 2 stage trigger in it as well with the lighter spring. Just installed the 45 degree ambi safety with short throw levers about a month ago. Loving that.

It's one of the best in my opinion but too pricey for a piston rifle...
You can get an MR556 upper for around $1500, not too bad, the work to get it shortened/lightened is only a few hundred extra too. If it has to run like a rape ape through hell and back, HK remains the only legitimate piston game in town besides FN's SCAR.

Yeah, LMT's piston isn't legit at all:rolleyes: Ask SMGlee who has reviewed both the LMT and HK piston designs which one he prefers.
Doesn't the MR556 have a non CL barrel vs. the 416 having one?

My other HK's don't have chrome lining either. I don't think the LMT piston guns have seen enough use to warrant a strong recommendation yet. However, I own plenty of LMT's and wouldn't hesitate to recommend their direct impingement products.
"With the LMT MRP piston system, you have a platform (so far) that is just as reliable as the HK416, but costs half as much (street price for the LMT is $1400 vs. $4000 for the HK416), has less recoil, shoots smoother, and has more commonality of parts than the HK 416."

Least we not forget that LMT just beat HK(hk417) and FN's(scar H) best product by a huge margin when securing the L129A1 contract from MoD.
Several of my closest pals in the shooting world run LMT MRP pistons and all report absolute flawless operation now for several yrs.

By all accounts the HK417 isn't ready for prime time. I have an MWS too, so I put my money where my mouth is, but until I see wider adoption of the piston LMT's I'm going to reserve judgement.
I don't think the piston LMT has any more parts in common with the AR than the 416. The bolt group is proprietary, as is the piston system, barrels, upper, etc. Government cost on the 416's isn't even close to 4k.
The HK is the most mature piston system on the market, with the best track record (next to the SCAR) in real-world use.

We get it. You like the LMT MRP.

Trident82,
How does your HK416 compare to your piston LMT?
The only German made pistons I own are inside my M3's.

I'm going with the SDN-6 as soon as I receive the 10.5" MRP 300blk barrel.

Trident,
I couldn't be happier with this setup. It has worked flawlessly so far...got about 600 rds down range. About 400 are suppressed. I love the MRP's. The balance is great with the 10.5 barrel. Beautiful gun by the way.
Thanks, can't wait to join the suppressor club:)
Enjoy that truly perfect specimen you own, that's as good as it gets in my book!!!

I really do prefer my MK18 in this configuration. The weapon is far lighter and the balance is further back making it handle much faster.

Nice set up! Does the suppressor cover really work well or do you remove it often due to excessive heat?

Finally, after almost 3 years of debating back and forth, I bought myself a DD 10.3" Mk18 Mod1 upper!
With my BCM 03 MSF chest harness customized with Blue Force Gear goodness to my liking:

Very nice Matt, how do you like that 11.5 LW barrel? I am stuck between that and a 12.5...

Thanks Cory,
My time with it is limited at this point with only 500 rounds or so. It eats everything, and with the H2 buffer it's plenty smooth.

Paul, is that your small gas port SBR from your videos?
I wrote on your youtube, not sure if you read it, but you are the inspiration for my newest build. I am having an issue though as my laser is a PEQ15 and the Troy BUIS obstructs the laser. I think I will have to put it on the 3:00 rail.
Anyway, nice rifle.

Paul,
I'd like to know more about the Aimpoint Micro on there. I just picked up another R1 that I don't want to leave silver. The color on yours looks solid, how'd you do it?

No, this DD Mk18 upper is new.
Glad I could be of service, man!;) I feel ya on the PEQ-15 with Troy front BUIS. The '15 only works "perfectly" with standard FSB's and front sights that mostly mimic the FSB size and shape. That's what's nice about the DBALs, they work much better with a much more diverse range of front sights (although I ain't giving up my PEQ-15 though!). It'll still do fine with the Troy, but to maximize effectiveness you gotta get it as close as possible to the front sight. If you can run the Troy front folded up, all the better b/c you can get it even closer by a hair.

It's a couple colors of Aervoe paint combined, from when I painted another SBR. I just snagged this T-1 from it.
IIRC, it's a base coat of SAND and then sprayed with COYOTE. Both Aervoe spray paint bought from DSG Arms. They have a great selection of Aervoe colors.
