Don't believe that I've posted this yet. Now I just have to heal up so I can get back out to the range and put it through the rest of it's paces.

Nice rifle, love the colors and simple pattern. What method did you use for the refinish? Spray bomb, Duracoat, Ceracoat? And what are the names or numbers of the colors. I really like what you did there.

Picked up a 1-4x PST & added an American Defense mount. Not much S left in my SBR but the rig would be a lot longer if I had to use a 16" barrel!

Got the VIS, KAC BUS and mount and STR today.

Thanks - I like the chamfered holes of the TRX better but I don't like how the TRX deforms when you tighten it down. Seems like a good way for something to break. I prefer the traditional jam nut of the MI rail with a dose of loctite.

Ya hopefully they will fix that nd maybe come out with. TRX gen II
I really love the TRX but I learned that if you have a front folding sight...you're off out at onager distances because it's canted.

Links to any more info on this? I had problems zeroing my Troy fixed sights at Magpul carbine 1 on an 11" TRX rail.

I don't have a link but I was examining a friend's TRX upper today and I was jealous of the nicely stepped holes but aghast at the 1/16" of rail gap literally bent to tighten toghether on the underside. Looked like the rail was made of playdough and just smushed together. I can't believe one of the tightening ears didn't snap off when he torqued it down. That design just can't be ideal.

No links. That's just from experience.
I was shooting at 250 and I was hitting low and to the left....about 4 feet low and to the left....coincidentally that's the direction the TRX is canted
I've got an 11" TRX Extreme on my carbine. While I haven't had a chance to shoot past about 150 with it, I had no problem hitting a steel plate with my MBUIS at that distance. I haven't noticed any canting in my rail.
I will agree its not the most ideal mounting method though.

Couple of questions. Has this issue caused you to sour on the Troy Extreme and/or VTAC? Did the Alpha resolve it?
I read in another of your posts the 11.5/11 Troy combo won't work on some suppressors. I'm planning my first SBR, would you recommend the 11.5/11 or better to go with a 10.5/9 or 12.5/11?
I like the Troy VTAC for both it's feel and yes, it's look also.
Thanks
...
What suppressor? If its a reflex you will need more room. Otherwise the Surefire Micros require hardly any mounting room.
I have my SPR/M4 on an 11.5" and it has a small amount of room before the switch block.
Where as a surefire micro will fit a Colt/DD 10.3" barrel on a 9.5" RIS rail.

At this point I don't have anything, I'm only in the planning process so I'm reading and researching.
I'm sorry, what is the SPR Special Purpose Rifle? Disregard the last, I found it. SPR/M4 is an AAC 5.56 suppressor.

What's the specs on this SBR? Length? Rail Length? FH?
Thanks
12.5 with the 10" Troy TRX. 51tooth AAC blackout.
Is that a modded Larue handstop?
Correct. I modified it to work.
12.5 with the 10" Troy TRX. 51tooth AAC blackout.
Any chance that's an 11" rail? I'm looking to find that rail in 10" and haven't found one yet. But I'd like too.

Actually it might be. I built it a LONG time ago.
It looks more like a 11" on a 12.5" barrel or a 10" on a 11.5" barrel. There isn't a whole lot of barrel exposed on that.

I absolutely love the TRX. I want to get some good quality time on this before really saying I love or hate it.
So far I love it. Its light, the Picatinny panels are perfect for what I need it for and it just works well.
As far as barrel length and suppressor, thats really about your preference buddy.
This rifle MIGHT be suppressed one day, the 12.5" Im starting Im thinking will be dedicated.
First, decide what barrel length you will go with, that will determine what you will do with it, then work around that.
I guess my only concern with the 12.5, which I like, will be 18" once I add a suppressor. I guess that's not the worst thing.

Ya man its not that bad.
Do you own an M4?
Its only 2 inches longer than that.
Even with a 10.5" it would still be the same size as an M4, 16"
Actually it might be. I built it a LONG time ago.
I'm positive there is no off the shelf readily available 10" TRX extreme or VTAC extreme......
Did you have the rail annodized with the rest of it, or is that the factory FDE/Coyote (whatever) color?
BTW.....that's a sweet SBR!

It's cerakoted graphite gray.
Alright last two questions, I promise.
If I got a 12.5 barrel with a 11" Troy rail I should have no problems mounting almost any FH/suppressor combo correct?
BCMJunkie or anyone, you don't have a pic of this combo with a suppressor do you?

The rule of thumb for MOST suppressor applications is, if the barrel is one inch longer than the rail, you are good to go.

I dont know exactly, its pretty light compared to a 14.5 middy with a 12" rail, and a stock 6920 is about the same. Thats just by feel though.

My Noveske 10.5" Light Shorty, came with a Vltor MUR upper. I find it extremely handy and I worked out a couple minor issues with the setup since I took the picture. I've moved where I attach the rear of the sling to the right rear QD on the stock, allowing me to more easily get the stock towards the center of my body firing right- or left-handed. I'm currently considering adding a forward hand stop for a more positive index on the flashlight, trying to figure out what would be extremely light.
The bandoleer is from US Grunt Gear. The patch makes me laugh :D
Thanks mate. I have an Aimpoint T1 and much prefer the EOTech.

Alright. Gotta ask. Who made the lower? And what's the muzzle device?
Its a PWS diablo upper. With their proprietary muzzle device. Basically a chambered flash hider.
ETA the lower i am not at all sure who makes it.

Above was correct. It's a PWS Diablo 5.56 upper with their CQB Comp on the front. The lower is a Black Rain Ordnance Fallout15 lower with some custom engravings. I had the guys at Black Rain send me an unfinished lower with no engravings, got the engravings, then sent it back to them to get it anodized. The guys at Black Rain were awesome! Amazing CS for sure!

Yeah. I get that. Looks good. And it seems like SBRs are PITA's period so why not?
So its not actually an SBR yet, but this is the lower for mine. Its being built by Accurate Armory, they're just waiting on the rail to put it together (of course it'll be MONTHS before I can bring it home). Figured with all the red tape to go through to get one I may as well make it mine. It's got a custom serial number and I had them engrave my family crest on the lower.

When I designed it I forgot about needing the City/State so they have to go back and add it

Hey sorry for the late reply.
Its just hockey tape. I have been using it for years on my nailgun when I was a roofer and taped my fingers as well.
Its also what I use as band-aids cause it sticks better.
I absolutely hate stippling and dont like aftermarket grips...so I use it on my firearms as well.
It does definatly leave glue when you take it off.
I take it off only to replace it when it gets really bad so I dont mind.

The Kino runs alot different than the shorty.
It runs more like an M4 than an SBR really. It doesnt like the heavier spring at all.
On sunday it was having trouble picking up the rounds from the mag. Almost every shot had to be manually charged.
I threw the lighter spring and swapped buffers and it runs like a dream.

could you clarify what you mean by "heavier" and "lighter" springs? Is one of those a standard carbine buffer spring? If not, have you tried standard buffer components? I have always found the 12-12.5" to be one of the most pleasant and reliable barrel lengths.

Sure thing.
Its short stroking, the gas pressure isnt enough to compress the "Stiffer" spring that is normally in the 11.5"
The spring that I have been running in the Kino is from my M4, its just a standard Mil-spec buffer spring.
The spring I have been running in the SBR for the past few thousand rounds is from Larue, the compression strength of the two is ALOT different.
The Kino runs great....with the Mil-spec spring. Like I said, it runs more like an M4 than a SBR

I have found exactly the same thing. I had an A5 system on it, but put that back on my 3gun rifle, and with just a carbine spring and H2 buffer, my KINO shoots just like my 14.5 SOCOM M4A1 w/ RIS II clone.
Its doesn't feel like a normal SBR, even a non-KINO 12.5 I had. I think the slight bit of extra weight that the A2 front sight on the KINO is a help, but what do I know, I've been told I'm an idiot.

Where do you engrave a glock with SBR info? also can you still mount a can on the glock with the carbine set up ?
I've heard of some people engraving the plastic near the serial number plate. I personally would just list the manufacturer serial number on the form. My Class III dealer does this without issue, at least he does on standard rifles.

Still not sure yet where I am going to get the engraving done to be honest. Been meaning to call ATF on this one to ask, or if any others have a recommendation it's appreciated. Thinking I might just have to do as was already recommended and engrave it in the plastic somewhere near the serial number plate.

its a cmmg 22lr upper cut to 9" by them and a omega rail with troy sights.
if I was going to do it again I would have the barrel cut just slightly shorter so just the threads stuck out. probably 8.5"
First it started life as a pistol.
Installed a Krebs Quad rail forend, Tapco G2 TG with retaining plate, Tapco slant brake, TangoDown battle grip, Ace folding mechanism with Ace stock, TWS rail dust cover, Krebs enhanced safety/fire selector, and Trijicon Accupoint 1-4 G3 with a LaRue SPR QD mount.
Then it ended life as one bad ass SBR.

Yeah man me too lol
Troy Rails are nice but I would personally stick to Daniel Defense or Centurion rails depending on what your "use" is for the rifle. I have the TRX Extreme (which is what I'm assuming you're talking about) on a 16" "recon" type build, but don't know if I would want them for a hard use, get banged up type of gun. Just my opinion though and worth what you paid for it :)

That's exactly the setup that I was originally going to go with but a combination of my dealer not getting any of the Mini 4s in and deciding on something that I like a little better led me to the build that I'm in the process of now...
I don't think you'll have any regrets going with the MK18 rail. The SWS rail that Noveske uses for their switchblock is extremely nice as well. Slightly skinnier all the way around than the MK18 rail, and (I think) slighly lighter too.
Went shooting with some friends and had a chance to put this M4-2000 on my SBR. Super sweet and no hiccups. I'm hooked!

Do you have to remover the riser to charge it?
When the stock is extended you are able to charge it, but it interferes with the charging handle in its collapsed position. For close-quarters training I remove the riser.

Got it.
Why do you need a riser for the Eotech?
Seems like alot of work for an absolute co-witness optic.
Do you have trouble getting a cheekweld?

just fyi - Larue makes a sliding riser for that stock.

If you're dead set on using a riser, take a look at the Larue RISR (http://www.laruetactical.com/larue-tactical-risr-reciprocating-inline-stock-riser).

Nice but flip your upper rail cover around. You always want the stars leading into battle. Hence the backward flag patches on soldiers right shoulders. It's going to be backwards from one side or the other so might as well flip it around.

Thanks for the advice. ;) Gonna do it right now. I didn't even think about that when I put it all together. I was just too damn excited to actually get her all put together but you're absolutely right.

I know that feeling. Looks good though & I like the idea. I may have to copy it on one of my rifles.

Thanks Brother, I've seen a few guys do just a single red, white and blue index clip and thought it was cool, but I don't remember ever seeing an entire Old Glory on a top or side rail, so I decided that that's the way I wanted to go. I really like the look too, and think that it makes the entire rifle pop because of it. It definitely already gets looks, but the flag on top makes it stand out that much more.
Welcome home, thanks for your service and nice effin rifle!

I might try out the MagPul MOE-K grip I have in my spare parts box......
The barrel profile is of the heavy type, and the EMod does a great job at balancing out the rifle. I plan on running just iron sights on this one. Might get a light, but this is a range toy for now, and nothing more.
Going out tonight for a night shoot.....can't wait to "light up the night" with it. :D

Here is my new toy. started out as a spike pistol. 7.5" lw upper and a templar lower now. was shooting good groups at 50 but have not stretched it past that yet. confident it should be pretty decent at 100 based on the 50 pattern and still on target at 300. will post update when i get a chance to take it out on the longer

How are you liking the Mini 4? Does it still provide good sound reduction on a SBR?
How are you liking the Mini 4? Does it still provide good sound reduction on a SBR?
I would say that any other barrel length other than the 10.3, the mini4 is great to shoot. The 10.3 has just a little too much "crack" to not wear ear pro.
Threw this together in the last week, waiting on can. BCM BFH 11.5" upper, KAC RAS, Magpul CTR stock, M16 lower.

To be honest it looks the same in direct sunlight...just a little lighter in color. The metallic isn't noticeable to me.

Not any real shocker that your new 300blk setup Buddy is the finest one I've seen to date. With the SDN-6, that really is such a well executed and thought out build. Amazing how compact, and most likely LW that rifle is with a full sized .30cal can attached. I bet the fun factor is off the f**king charts with that setup and subs.
Gotta wonder why Buddy ain't rocking a T-1 though???:D
hoohaw, did the suppressor come in that color or is it coated aftermarket?

Thanks Trident. I have had the can and upper for a while but just got a round to shooting it a few weeks ago and so far I dig it. It is amazing how light and "handy" the configuration is even with a bulky 762 can and IR hanging off the end. I attribute that to the lightweight URXIII rail; KAC truly nailed the design IMHO. We shot about 250 rounds of subsonic through it and it really seemed "Hollywood" quiet compared to 5.56.
BTW, I have a stash of Eotechs that I didn't tell you about. :-)
