Colt RO635/639 SMG uppers are 10.5" in length which is what yours appears to be if it is a factory built short barreled upper. You can check by verifying the barrel is stamped C MP under the handguards. Mine was a 16" 6450 upper cut down to 11" in order to make certain that a suppressor will clear the bayonette lug. Note that 9mm barrels extend 1/2" further into the receiver than a 5.56.

Good to know. It was a factory upper. I didn't have the lower. I expect you did the upper work because you DID have the correct lower.

Which suppressor will you be using?

I can't say my suppressor would have cleared but it's 1/2x28tpi and I bought a TROS adapter for it so I have no problems :D

ETA: I'm sorry, mine's an RO635 AFAIK, not 6450. Yes, factory SBR.

I never thought of doing it there. Since the barrel is both removable and acceptable, the trigger guard is less easily removed and part of the lower receiver, I wonder what the ATF would say about engraving a Maglul trigger guard provided it is the specified height and depth?

Last time I checked, the Magpul trigger guard only requires an allen key and a small punch. You could punch it out with a loaded magazine. The barrel on the other hand requires much more, but like I said, I don't believe it's legal on an AR15...

I wasn't looking for one either, I was just curious since I had never really thought about trying it.. I've seen at least one letter from the ATF in the last year that said the barrel was good to go and it doesn't take any tools to remove the upper.

Yeah, I think I saw that letter posted on HK forums and that's what led me to believe it was specific to their rifles. Usually those letters are only good for the person who asked...

Yep.

"a) You, as a manufacturer, importer, or maker of a firearm, must
legibly identify the firearm as follows:


(2) By engraving, casting, stamping (impressing), or otherwise
conspicuously placing or causing to be engraved, cast, stamped
(impressed), or placed on the frame, receiver, or barrel thereof certain
additional information."

The serial number is required to be on the "frame or receiver." The additional required markings can be put on the barrel.

Ok so frame, receiver, barrel etc. is fine. It's not ok to put it underneath the pistol grip on an AR where people used to do it so why would it be ok to put it on the barrel where it's covered by handguards? I bet it's not so that might have been a dumb question.

Also, since when is a removable trigger guard either the barrel, frame or receiver? Barrel, frame or receiver means Barrel, frame or receiver, not parts thereof.

ETA: You'd need to engrave all of your uppers then- even your 16" ones. AFAIK, an NFA firearm is still an NFA firearm even if a longer upper is put on it.

Next up is a 12" 6.8 with a DD 9.0 Lite. Barrel is a Mike Rock, as I understand it. I polished the ramps and blended them a bit and I think I've solved my feeding problems. Still need some more rounds through it, though.

It's not a case. It's an Emdom KitMat (http://prostores2.carrierzone.com/servlet/emdomusa/Detail?no=43), which is basically a cleaning mat with pouches for your cleaning kit built in. Very ingenious and very well made. I highly recommend it.

Well I have a G2 with an LED head in a Viking Tactics mount. It's not tacticool enough for the $200 upper, $200 gas block, $240 handguards, $250 stock, $200 stamp on the lower, etc. The rifle basically refuses to let me mount that cheap light on it. Just ask Grant- the LED I have is junk ;)

Here is my SP89 converted to MP5K-PDW. It is not a SBR, but I have a DLO HK pack in the lower. The work was done by:

HK - factory installation of a brand new mp5K-pdw barrel (thanks to Phil Flack for arranging it......he said I got the absolute last pdw barrel HK had)

Phil Flack - clip/pin lower, install factory HK roller mag release, welded up the SP89 markings, and sold me the factory mp5K bolt carrier and buttstock.

Gordon Miller - remark (absolutely outstanding and as close to factory as I've ever seen) and refinish.

So what do you think of these colors on my rifle? I didn't want a solid color rifle and I didn't want to mess with some sort of silly camo pattern.

I am going to get more color on but this is where we are are so far. I am keeping the lower parts lighter and "higher" parts darker. I may mix things up a bit too.

I think I may try to lighten them up and get them more coyote than they are.

I was inspired by the color of the new DD anodizing.

Quick tip: the sling is designed to work with the top loop on your stock. If you want to run the sling using the QD swivels, consider switching the rear swivel to the opposite side of your Vltor stock. That way, you won't push the rear sling buckle into your shoulder every time you mount your carbine.

Yep, my QD is mounted on the opposide side as well. Really makes it easier when bringing that stock up to your shoulder. The sling won't get in the middle and allow the stock to slip. That is, if you put you are right handed and put your left arm and head through the sling to carry the weapon.

The upper is a LaRue Stealth with a Bravo Company 11.5" barrel (LMT lower and bolt carrier group). This gun has been extreemly reliable and I've had no issues with it. Ran this gun in a couple training classes, some matches, etc.

The Surefire can is sitting at my local FFL. The can took a couple months to transfer from an out of state dealer to my local FFL, I submitted my Form 4 the 3rd week of Jan to the Chicago BATFE office. Last Monday I got my Form 4 (envelope un opened) returned to me. In late December the branch of the BATFE that approves Form 4's moved to Atlanta. So last Monday, I sent my Form 4 to Atlanta. With any luck I should have it back in approximatley 3 weeks.

Added 9.0 Lite Rail, did an ultra low profile 'shave' on the FSB and Norrell'd the AAC suppressor. Added a Surefire X300 light and a LMT MRP front sight and cut off the large nut and added a blackened McMaster nylok nut. I also added a LMT enhanced bolt (not the carrier), I swapped in a KNS thinner front sight post.

I finally joined the SBR club. My Form 4 with NFA stamp arrived yesterday.
It is a factory complete and registered LMT 10.5 and as stated on a Form 4.
No tacitcool toys on it yet but I am waiting on an Aimpoint M4 and Gemtech G5 In the photo there is a little purple color to it but it is not really noticable in person.

That's the same rail I have on my SBR above.

The GG&G is actually very similar, but more versatile (because there's no high spot on the rail) and made of aluminum instead of Polymer.

Here's my reworked DPMS lower Frankengun SBR.

Now it's sporting a Bushy 12.5" (was a factory 14.5" Bushy). A customer of mine gave me the 1x9 Bushy barrel that he screwed up the threads on removing the perm. installed brake so to not let a good barrel go to waste I had Randall (AR15Barrels.com) cut it down for me to 12.5" I installed a 7.0 Daniel Defense Lite Rail I had laying around screaming to be used and a CMT non-M4 ramped upper receiver. I had an old Colt AR15 carrier sitting around so I used it along with a LWRC Advanced Combat Bolt (old style) and a BCM firing pin and cam pin. I used a PRI Gas Buster charging handle and an Aimpoint M2 I have in an American Defense mount and I used a Troy rear sight. It's a pretty plain jane set up but I think I'll leave it that way.

How'd you shorten the KAC grip?

The grip is a standard KAC that I shortened.
Measured how short I wanted the grip to be and cut. Then measured the same amount, added a little back, and cut the core. Took a bit of trial and error getting things to fit but it works very well.

Actually got the idea from a guy over on Lightfighter.

i dont have a measurement on the eye relief, but it isnt BAD, if that is what you are asking.

its pretty natural NTCH position for a good eye relief.

the FSB will be coming off this week, as i am sending it for PWS piston conversion. the pws has a railed gas block, but i will probably replace the front sight with a fixed LMT or similar anyhow. for some reason i like having the front sight out there and ready.

the only reason i stayed 10.5 as opposed to shorter, is because most supressor manufacturers will not warrantee a can that is run on a shorter than 10 barrel. bullet stabilization and baffle strikes become a concern apparently.

Sage Int'l sells the bracket. It's about $425.00. I've thought about doing it for shits and giggles, but just don't have this at the top of the priorities budget-wise.

The new AAC Blackout QA adapters came in this week. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet though.

Here is a picture of the 6.8mm LWRC PSD compared to a 16" M4 with the stock fully collapsed. Note that the PSD is still shorter even with the stock at the second notch. This PSD, shooting the SSA OTM, has more energy at 100 yards than the 14.5" M4 has at the muzzle. The bullets have a lower fragmentation threshold than the M193 and M855 as well allowing it to retain that increased lethality at longer distances.

Yes, 6.8mm SPC? It is more FDE than Coyote. They're not doing the Gunkote anymore as an option though. They now have an anodized SOCOM FDE instead.

Thanks! Here's the way I'm gonna keep my SBR. I just threw that Short Dot on there to see how it would look, but that made for a VERY heavy package.

That's an LMT 10.5" barrel and a LaRue 10.0 rail.
