My newest 'SBR'.
Swiss Arms 551 Carbine with B&T quad rail and Ta33-R8 Compact ACOG. Yes, I know I still need an OD pistol grip. :)

I dont take nearly as pretty of pictures but heres my SBR.
I had a 10.5 Noveske CQB barrel but sold that and went with the 11.5in BCM BFH barrel. Just wanted the extra inch for velocity and dwell time.
Plus I had an EOTech 511 on there too, but decided to try this 1-4x20 Lepould VX-II that I was going to use with my 3gun rifle, but put it on here and I like it alot so its staying for now.
Im waiting on my AAC Breakout to get here and for my AAC M4-2000 suppressor paperwork to come back.

Great set of rifles you have there! Why the Emag in the SCAR? Any problems with regular Pmags?
That is an awesome looking Sig.
I saw an FN at my local gun shop the other day and a few things went through my mind, Damn that thing is big and Ugly! How does it run.

Thanks but the SCAR and Ruger SR-556 belong to my pals. My buddy liked the look of the Emags so he grabbed some when he bought his SCAR.

Thanks. The SCAR is an extremely sweet shooting gun. On my last trip out to the range with these guys, the 556 SBR had a Levang compensator on the front. It did a decent job or redirecting some of the noise forward but seemed way jumpy compared to the flat shooting SCAR. I mean, firing the SCAR is like a non-event. It goes bang and barely moves. Almost ZERO muzzle hop and recoil. It is a real pleasure to shoot and is the best feeling (balance) rifle I've ever picked up. This one belongs to my buddy-I don't own one yet.
So, I took a page out of its playbook for today's "rematch" and swapped to that PWS FSC-556 muzzle brake that the factory SCAR sports. Low and behold, the 556 was flat shooting and super fast on follow up shots just like the SCAR. The downside was the noise level was very high. You need 2 forms of hearing protection to run this brake on an SBR.

Thank you very much.
I've got a variety of comments on the rifle, but my favorite was that "it looks like it came out of a Terminator movie."
Always wanted a A2 with ARMS SIR #51, and done as a 11.5" SBR it's great fun.
Still going around with the RDS choices, obviously many don't like carry handle mounting but that used to be the only way years ago, and the "heads up" cheekweld has it's own advantages.

Here's my first SBR, pretty much finished at this point, sans silencer (still pending). I have yet to put a round through it. The receiver I've had for a long time, a PWA that I built originally under the Clinton assault rifle ban, without all the cool stuff. That situation has obviously been rectified. So, it went from a boring post-assault weapon ban AR type boring rifle to a cool NFA SBR.

buddyhoohaw, hey brother I've looked at a lot of pics of this badass blaster of yours now, and I've fully determined that you're KAC triple tap brake is canted about 15-degrees past the top of the bore. Less than 5-degrees of cant isn't enough to really make any noticeable difference in muzzle flip, but I'm pretty sure that a muzzle brake that's out of alignment of the top of the bore (12 o'clock) as much as yours is probably, makes a bit of difference.
Who installed it? You, or the shop(?) that also dimpled your barrel?
Also, I'm not trying to call you out here or anything, just help you out. For all I know you might have corrected it already, or maybe you even wanted it like that, IDK. I just know for it to be 100% effective the flats need to be (near) perfectly at 12 & 6, the 3T at 3 on the right, and the knights logo at 9 on the left. Was rocksett applied to the threads during installation?
Hell, the first time I installed my triple tap on my SR-15 I did it completely upside down. It wasn't until I was at the range shooting it that I noticed:p That was before I actually used the rocksett to keep it in place though.
Anyhow, just figured I'd point it out to you in case you didn't already know.

variablebinary, damn dude! I haven't really wanted a SCAR badly enough to even consider actually buying one until seeing this badass pic that shows what it COULD look like with the 10.5" bbl. It's a sure thing now that I'll buy one, but ONLY if/when they actually release the shorty bbl. I'd also prefer the 14.5" bbl as well over the 16".
Hopefully FN will friggin' release those 2 barrels, because I bet there's a lot of other dudes like me who'd buy a SCAR in a heartbeat once they see how great it looks as an SBR with the 10.5" bbl. It just looks... right that way. If that makes sense.

Thanks bro. I am extremely happy with it. With the 12.5" barrel, the SM556 is actually not bad. I have shot 10.5" uppers with this brake and they were downright offensive. With this barrel it's really flat and not bad for shooters around me either.

-Why yes, Jimmy, that would indeed be the badass custom Kino I was referencing:D One of these days I'll be coming up your way for a carbine course, hopefully when I'm there I'll get a chance to link up with you and run that bitch a little bit!
-Rated21R- I'd rate their performance as pretty much equal. I'd say that if you already have an X300 on your carbine, and would ONLY be buying the mini-scout in order to replace the X300, I don't think it would be necessary at all. You wouldn't gain anything IMHO. I wanted to check one out, and needed an X300 on my Glock 19 anyways, so I moved the X300 to the Glock 19 and the mini-scout went on my SBR. Worked out great for me.
If you don't have either, or are in the same position as I was where you can really use the X300 elsewhere, I'd say go for the mini-scout. Or if you have plenty of $$ and it doesn't matter, then go for it. I do personally prefer the mini-scout on the carbine however. The whole reason I bought 2 surefire X300's for my carbines a year ago is because they are heavy duty weapon-specific lights that are proven and are small, taking up very minimal rail space. Now that the mini-scouts are out, I'll be sticking with them for my carbines from now on.
I just don't think it's at all necessary to buy one just to have one if you already have the outstanding X300. But if you just dig it that much more and really want it regardless, go for it. We all do that shit from time to time. The great thing about either the X300 or the mini-scout though, is that both of them work GREAT for lighting up targets out at 100 yards with ease (and beyond depending on environmental conditions), making it too easy to score hits on target with your aimpoint and irons, too. I fucking LOVE both of these weaponlights!!
Sorry for the super long answer, man. I don't even know if I explained all that well or not, with all my damn rambling. Hope it helps, though;)
Semper Fi,
-Paul
thanks for the answer. i appreciate it. if i can find a mini-scout for a decent price i might have to pick one up, if not i might just grab another x300 as you can usually find good deals for them. thanks again.

Tom Swift - they let you have toys like that in Toronto?
Tom Swift - they let you have toys like that in Toronto?
Yea, in Canada the Lower Receiver is controlled and registered, Uppers regardless of barrel length are uncontrolled. AR15's are in the Restricted class of firearms (because they are evil looking) like most Military Style Rifles, and all Handguns, so they can only be taken from one's house to the range and straight back. (Oh yea Mags are pinned to 5 :( ) However a PS90 or a FS2000 or a SCAR with a 18.5" barrel are non restricted and can be shot anywhere legal to discharge a rifle. In as soon next December the Non Restricted registry could be ended.
That means that these little Chinese 870 clones like my friends in the picture will not be registered (they will still require a license to buy). So the laws are kinda retarded when compared to your NFA stuff.
http://i967.photobucket.com/albums/ae154/Tom_Swift/Uncensored/DSC_0210.jpg
Right now I just use my Upper on my friends Lower, since I'll be living in residence next year for University there isn't much point in going through the additional hassle as of now to get the lower as I'd have no place to store it in accordance to the law. Canadian laws are pretty stupid and I could probably go on for hours and they still wouldn't make sense.

I will be getting a kino version of the BCM 12.5" upper myself sometime eventually, just have no clue when I'll be able to. I love the idea of having the extra rail space while keeping the FSB on an SBR.
I'm having a blast with my BCM 14.5" middy, which is technically an SBR for now, until I get the brake perm attached.

You've got me interested...
As long as you run good mags with the Diablo uppers they seem to run like a sewing machine. Don't seem to care what kind of crap ammo you put through them either. I'm jealous to say the least. I'd have no use for the magnifier on that setup, but otherwise perfect for me!

At first with brass ammo i had failure to eject. i got one of the first runs that didn't have the extra power ejector spring and donut. after PWS sent me those it ran great not a single jam. close to 1,000 rounds now with 5 Stainless Steel C-products mags with no problems. even on full auto at a local indoor range. eats Winchester, fiocchi, american eagle, brown bear, wolf with no problems. PWS just ran two of these at a carbine class with no problems at all. 7.62x39 at 124grains moving 2,000FPS hits hard.
here is a video of the 7.62 diablo and 5.56 diablo in an indoor range.

QD swivel socket.
What he said. However (Comma) I don't use them anymore. I got a modified magpul ASAP plate to use on my SR-15 lower, because those swivels are great in theory/on paper, but they suck ass in reality (on that specific lower). If you're running a single point sling with a QD swivel in those sockets, they seriously impair your ability to easily and quickly actuate the safety selector.
Just an FYI. Other than that, my KAC SR-15 E3 ambi lower is my favorite lower I've owned as of now.

I was thinking of either Larue or DD and then saw the thread by Jeff and gave it a go. It is one nice piece of work, not to heavy and allows me to wrap my hand around it like you see in a lot of the AAR shots. I tried doing that with a standard rail and it didn't feel comfortable/natural, this one does.

i like. does it run better or worse with or without can?
It ran good with or without. I'm kin of suprised. Usually, I have to open the gas port up to around .070-.080.
The Rainier came with a .056. But it ran real good for being new.
I had 3 double feeds but I think I narrowed it down to the old 20 round mag I was using. P-Mag worked fine.
Accuracy, if I did my part, was about 1" at 50 yards. I couldn't do it every time but I had some decent groups. That was with a 4 X scope.
Seemed like the groups opened up some when the barrel got hot. But then it could have been me. We had a heat index of 100. After about 3 hours, I was spent.
POI change about 1.5" right and 2" high with the can.
It even ran Wolf.:D
Man these rifles are off the chain. I can't wait to get one of my own.

Thanks. It's just an iPhone and I had to really brace my hands so the pics would come out relatively clear but they turned out good enough.
The Surefire was my first can and it's still running strong. I have nothing bad to say about it. That 10.5 has quite a teeth rattling bark to it, especially with the muzzle brake and the Surefire can knocks it down to about .22 pistol levels. Good enough for me!!!!

Nice. I would like to build a piston shorty.
If you do throw a piston kit on your upper, I would suggest looking into the Ares kit. I really do like mine and it was simple to install. I know there's others out the but the Ares is one of the more low profile units I could find that would work with a 10.5 barrel.
-I have no relations to Ares....

I am an evil wrong hander (one the the few that are right handed but left eye dominant. so i taught myself to shoot and do everything left over the years. just easier and fast for me) ... but running it up top allows me to drive with both sides just fine... i will take pics to show.
Kinda better pic, I cant hold still for shit. Painted with Rustoleum "DArk Taupe" matches the Tango Down Dark Earth damn near perfect. Used a wire brush about 4 hours after painting to "rough up" the finish and take away the slight "shine" it had.

I went the pistol/F1 route. Not sure on the total weight, but it's not light. Ill try to weigh it when I get a chance. I absolutely love this gun though. I have a 10.5" LWRC that I love, but I do love the Sig just a little bit more.

You were right Zeus, the EOTech puts the DD sights at the VERY bottom of the window, lower than what I would call lower-third. I like it that way - it keeps the FOV clear but still allows irons to be used when needed.

I'm all about what works for each individual... not fads, trendiness, or dated "accepted knowledge". Each and every person is in and of themselves a weapons system. None are the same, yet most are similar. That irons site setup works really well for most (but not all), and needs zero user input if your electronic system fails. Glad you like it. Hope it serves you well.
