I went to a local gunshow this weekend and left with a new toy. All of these threads lately about KISS and lightweight got my desire to buy a new toy. I bought a NIB Colt 6520 out the door for $1100.00. That seemed to be pretty decent.

I never have been one leave anything alone and am already looking for a stripped flat top as I hate the A2 carry handle. I'll probably also install a new Troy extreme rail and lop off the FSB to save some weight. I'm thinking Magpul MBUS and a T-1 on a DD mount. I believe the Vltor stock without the tubes or pad is lighter than my MOE's. Any other ideas on weight savings?

KISS (Keep it simple, stupid) vs. Light Weight.

It seems as though the swapping out the A2 carry handle, stock, and hand gaurds void the "Simple" factor of your new purchase.

I would add a light and sling and be done with it. I love the ruggedness and simplicity of a "slick" carbine.

Just a "if it where mine" opinion. Whatever you decide, congratulations on your new purchase.

Oscar, You are right. I'm not sure at this point if I want a KISS or just a lightweight. Of course as it sits it's pretty much both.

Ken Elmore makes just such a rifle.

See if he will build you one if you supply the rail and upper.

I just picked up one of these in trade. I had an old SF barrel mount and weaponlight that I slapped on it along with a GI Sling . May eventually put a aimpoint on a carry handle mount but other than that, Im done. My other work rifles all have rails, optics etc. but for some reason I wanted to keep this one old school simple.
