Other than the NV settings and the depth to which they can be safely submerged, are there any differences between the 512 and 552? I have heard something to the effect that the 552 is more "rugged" internally as it is intended for police/military use, but I have been unable to find any definitive answers regarding this.
I have no need for the NV settings, and can't imagine my weapon ever being in more than 10 feet of water; so frankly those features of the 552 would be wasted on me. I don't like paying for stuff I don't use, so I opted to get a 512 instead. I've been using it for over a year with no complaints, but honestly I haven't been too hard on it. With any luck my training will be ramping up as the year progresses, and I'm curious if the 512 might not have been the best choice. Can the 512 take the same kind of abuse a 552 can? Or is the 552 internally ruggedized in some way?
