View Full Version : Any interest in a MOLLE-attached Kydex M4 mag pouch?
I'm trying to convince someone to make a run of these and was curious if there was much interest other than me. I'm also planning on "ruining" a pouch that I already have to trace the pattern onto some loose kydex I have to see if I can make it work myself.
I'm looking mostly for something I can mount to a molle battle belt that will mimic what I use on my pants belt now, and is part of my gab-n-go next to the rifle in the safe.
Let me know what you guys think about the idea.

any reason why the ITW FAST mag wouldn't work (other than a bit of added bulk)?

I would try one out, but it would have to prove some benefit over the Eagle FB or ITW FastMag. The benefit I would look for is reduced profile, as the width is not going to get any slimmer due to the width of the mag anyway.
I almost got one from Blade-Tech with the intention of replacing the attachment option with their MOLLE-LOK attachment, but ultimately decided against it due to the width of the pouch and additional cost which put it past that of an FB or Fast-Mag.

I have a pair inbound and will be looking at exactly that.
Awhile back I toyed with the idea of molle mounted kydex idea. I did various set-ups including making them interchangeable with the Safariland system, as can be seen in the below photo. Could be used on molle belt, vest or placed in any variation of a Safariland MLS. I also rigged up different holsters not specifically designed for a tactical mount. Also the shorter Safariland molle mounts, will also click into the standard receiver intended for the full size mounts.

I also did a couple of versions, such as a standard height mount (right side) and drop mount (left side) versions shown here

rob - make sure it's the gen 3 FASTmag you're getting.
regarding a kydex belt pouch - what height would you set it at? personally, i'd like to see one a bit lower, so the top of the mag is a bit above the top of the belt, instead of being real high. sort of a 'mid' mount - not high, not low/drop.
The Fast Mags are coming straight from ITW.
I'm going to soften one of my belt pouches and use it as a template, and add material and cut material where I need to in order to make one of my own.
I had issues with ALL of the MOLLE compatible AR pouches bunching up on eachother.
Case in point, here's an example of the Bladetechs:

I had David Bosen @ Coyote Tactical make a warbelt just to accomodate the ITW Gen III fast mags side by side.
I have quite a few single-shingles inbound, and while I agree that they can bunch I see no functional issue with it so far other than installation.
I do think that, on the nylon side, if I know that I'm going to be attaching two magazines I'll be using a double-shingle most likely.

Splitting the difference between a drop leg mount position and a standard belt mount position. It would keep the mags vertical when kneeling or sitting, wouldn't be as low as a drop leg mount, but would be low enough to still get good access to the belt mounted mags without hanging up on your kit. For me, this would be about optimal for type of mount / height for running full gear. I just never took the time to fully build this type of set up for myself. I would be interested in trying out something like this.
I found that when they were 'exactly' side by side, it could cause issues with mag plates or Magpul like devices hanging up on each other, or snagging the mag next to it. When I left an empty column between them, that ate up real estate. Its just a peeve I suppose.
