Hey guys,

I have been envious of all the lightweight builds I have been seeing and it inspired me to start trimming the weight on my Colt. I have one of the Tac Carbines (with the HBAR). I had the Surefire integrated light, a VLTOR Emod stock and a Moe grip (with obligatory Vickers sling). I chunked the light and the stock (kept the sling). I put the carbine hand-guards (with a piece of pic rail for my X300) and the M4 stock. The M4 stock is fine. The Emod is a tank, but adds little more than weight for my purposes (plinking/self-defense)

I also chunked the Moe grip because I noticed it actually made it a bit more difficult (just a bit) to activate the mag release and really didn't add anything (except storage, which was nice). I put the A2 grip back on it. I need to find another A1 grip. I have an A1 on my M16/416 and I really like that grip (I have small hands, btw).

The carbine handguards are also a treat. My old Surefire forend had the M4profile, which is a little chunky.

I must say that the gun does feel a lot better. I have taken it out two weekends in a row and it certainly makes a lot of my drills a little more enjoyable. Next I am thinking about making the following improvements:

1. Instead of switching the HBAR out with a lightweight barrel I am going to send it to ADCO for a re-profiling. The barrel, after years of classes and weekend drills still shoots serviceable groups.

2. I am thinking about dumping my Matec BUIS and getting one of the DD fixed rears. I originally had a Larue fixed BUIS which I loved but I bought the Matec so I could run a magnifier (which I never bother to use).

Any other ideas?

Not much to add. I was just going to say that until you can find an A1 grip, you could try cutting the finger nub off the A2. I did it and I though it made the A2 grip a bit better.
