I'd like to put a Leatherman MOLLE pouch on my belt, but I'd like to attach it horizontally instead of vertically. What's the best way to do this, without putting an adapter panel in between?

Without an Adapter I've seen everything from Zip-Ties, 550 Cord, Riggers Tape, To Rivets... But this is just what the Marines have brought in...

use shock cords (you can also mix it with 550 cord for added security)

I hate the vertical to horizontal adaptors. They make everything too thick for my liking and take up more room than the pouch needs (generally).

The best option I have found is to use several zip-ties on each channel to keep the pouch secure and avoid snagging. Be sure to trim the tie close to the "zip" to stay blood-free. I use toenail clippers.

Yeah, the adapter is what I want to avoid. I don't want another layer of shit in there, especially in the area I'm looking to mount the thing.

I have heard that Malice clips can be made do work for the 90* thing but I haven't seen instructions on how to make them work that way.

it's clumsy - not what you want to do. it works better on larger pouches. you basically use two malice clips through the webbing on the back of the pouch, which function as 'webbing' 90° from the original webbing. you now use those malice clips as webbing and thread additional malice clips through.

other than pouches designed with both vertical and horizontal straps, i have not found a good way to convert one. not what you wanted to hear, but the best solution is just to get a horizontal pouch for the leatherman like this:

Yeah, and I thought it worked out pretty well, though it wasn't ideal. Couldn't mount in exactly the spot I wanted to, but it beat going vertical and it beat the hell out of trying to use Malice Clips. No wasted zip-ties, either

There's not a huge amount of call for horizontal-mounted stuff, so I can see why the manufacturers don't do much more than offer the bulky adapters.
