We just removed the M4/Glock 2X4 from Number One Son's Eagle Plate Carrier. It was too heavy and flopped around as there are only two vertical straps to support all that weight. We replaced it with an M4/Glock 1X2 FB pouch (which has two vertical straps) and an Eagle M4 Single (which also has two vertical straps).

I contemplate cutting this 2X4 in half and putting one on this Eagle Plate Carrier in the farthest right channel, additionally securing it with a zip tie or three:

It should look like this:

Good/bad idea? Any counsel before I make the cut? EMT shears for the cut? Should I keep the seam to one side so I only have to dress the other side or cut right down the seam? How should I dress it? Flame or super glue?
I want to make sure I understand what you're asking. Can you link to the product on Eagle's page that you are going to cut in half?
I have a Double Pistol Mag Pouch, FB MOLLE (http://eagleindustries.com/product.php?productid=397&cat=24&page=1) that I cut in half because they don't make a Single Pistol Mag Pouch FB MOLLE (http://eagleindustries.com/product.php?productid=333&cat=24&page=3) for the Glock magazines.
There were issues. One of them being that the pistol pouches have the straps out-board on each half (it takes up three columns) meaning they are kind of hard to get to hang evenly. See strap spacing here (http://www.eagleindustries.com/images/D/397_Alt_3.jpg?1259875250609)
The other has been that no matter how much burning/gluing I've done they are starting to pull apart at the cut.
FWIW, I used an exacto knife to make my cut and made many passes. That's about the only part of the process that I'm satisfied with.

Not on their web site. I'm going to cut the pouch in the first picture (rear view.) It is this except for G17 mags in place of 1911 mags:

This is why I wondered about cutting to one side of the seam to maintain its integrity. Then I could have a cobbler, perhaps, sew up the other side. Life would have been better had they made this with 4 straps. Still four Glock 17 mags and 2 PMAGs are h-e-a-v-y.
I bought a 2 mag Glock pouch from you.;) Taking three rows made it impossible to properly place it on the Eagle chest rig I also bought from you.:D Sold them both.
What were they thinking when they determined how many straps they would use?

The local cobbler shop stitched up either side of the center factory stitch and then cut through the factory stitch. I finished the edges and Irish pennants with matches. A couple of zip ties supplement the MOLLE.
